The Liberty Hill Running Panthers hit a 3 from the corner as the clock ran out to defeat the Decatur Eagles in the semifinal today 53-51. Decatur led at halftime 29-20 and at the end of the 3rd quarter 46-35.....but LH put on a surge in the 4th quarter outscoring Decatur 18-5 and ending the Eagles Cinderella season at 37-4. It was a heart-stopping shot that won it for the Panthers as the Alamodome erupted in excitement......what a finish for the Liberty Hill Panthers. They will play in the State Final tomorrow against the winner of Faith Family vs Yates. This one should also be a barn-burner.

The Faith Family/Yates game is still just in the first quarter and I can tell you already......Liberty Hill should celebrate their win today because it ain't gonna happen tomorrow against either of these teams......sorry Panthers. Geez.....it's like a whole new level of basketball between these two teams.....and unless LH can play keep away and hold onto the ball for an extremely low-scoring and controlled game......they will have a huge "hill"(pun intended) to climb to keep it close.

These guys are all over the place up and down the court......making all manner of shots with bodies going everywhere. Supertalented players on both teams, for sure. Each team has some good height also......the rebounding and tip-ins are a battle on each missed shot.

The players on both teams have so much talent that they have trouble harnessing it all......but when under control they are awesome to watch.

6'7 Freshman Jordan Walsh for Faith Family is the real deal for sure......not too big of a contest for this guy. He's got all kinds of stuff hangin' off his shoulders. Faith Family also has Freshman Clayton as a starter too......look out for this team next season as well.

It appears FF is better coached and has better talent......but it's so close it's hard to say.

Yates is started to get flustered now.....they are down by 7 points in a blink of an eye.

Lot of athleticism in this game.....two missed free throws by Yates is crucial......now 5 point lead could have been down to three points......less than 2 min. left now.

75-68 with 1:04 to go.....FF leading and has the inbound. Too many missed chances down the stretch for Yates here.

Now 75-70 on that inbound turnover that Yates stole and took the distance. 48 secs. left.

Turnover on the inbound 5 second call.....now Yates is fouled and goes to the line.

Yates makes the free throws to make the lead only 3. Now Yates gets the ball back and is fouled....to the line again and misses the rim. 3 point game as Yates calls a timeout with 27 secs. left. Still anybody's game here.....75-72 Faith Family.

Yates forced to foul and Faith Family makes both. Then Yates down 5 takes a 3 pointer and misses. Fouls Faith again to stop the clock. Faith Family makes the free throws again. 79-72 and Yates calls a timeout with 15 secs. left.

Yates scores with 6 secs left and takes its last timeout. 79-74 now.

Yates fouls with 3.8 secs left to send FF to the line again. Nope.....these fouls are inbound types.....not in the bonus yet.

It's over now......Faith Family wins 80-74 over a really good Yates team. But Faith Family made the shots down the stretch and Yates floundered with poor execution. Faith Family is a beast of a team with two FANTASTIC FRESHMAN.....Clayton(6-6) and Walsh(6-7). As long as they stay in 4A.....forget it!!!

I don't know what Liberty Hill will do tomorrow night to gameplan for this Faith Family bunch.......how about say some prayers and try to play keep away and stall, Huh???

Duncanville vs North Shore is not any more impressive than the Yates/Faith Family game, IMHO. I think the talent on both sides of the 4A Semi was every bit equal to this 6A Semi......maybe not quite as seasoned in gameplan and coaching as at the 6A level......but most definitely had the talented players.

At the 6A level, the players certainly play with less mistakes and more smoothly......obviously they are better coached and accustomed to better competition. But still......just looking at some of those Yates and FF players.....they were highly talented, but rough around the edges......diamonds in the rough just waiting to be perfected.

Liberty Hill is holding their own against Faith Family in the 4A Final......so far.

The Panthers play good defense, get rebounds, and shoot well......they are not stalling or playing to a slow pace. They play quality controlled basketball and pass off to the open man well. Giving Faith Family a different type of game than they played against Yates. This game is more technical with a slower pace.....not slow......but slower than against the running of Yates last night. The Panthers can run too and they do well handling the ball and passing.

Looks like LH has FF out of their game......LH is controlling the style of play so far with their passing and ball handling.

Faith Family is not nearly as effective without playing their transition game.....they look lost playing against LH's defense in a set offense.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!!! Liberty Hill is controlling the style and pace of play......and is in control of this game so far.

Now we will see what halftime adjustments will be made by each team. I suspect LH will not make many adjustments at all......unless FF does something different. FF needs to do something different......they are down 10 points to a ball control team and in deep trouble if you ask me.

I would say that the Decatur team would also give Faith Family trouble with their style of play also.....very similar to Liberty Hill's. Faith Family is just better in a transition type of game to let their athleticism and speed rule the court. They cannot do that against this Panther ball control and good defensive team.....so they are getting frustrated. It's like they don't know how to run set plays......they are just not as good in this style of basketball.

Liberty Hill has been able to run their offense and slow down the pace with quality spread offense and passing. Ball handling is also good....not many steals so far by Faith Family. It's a type of "keep away", but without that much of a slow down for Liberty Hill. They seem to be in their comfort zone and have made the shots.

I was impressed by the way FF began playing a better defensive game and also not taking so many 3's.

Timeout Faith Family......they are playing good now. They lead 47-43 and have the ball on the inbound.

Faith Family on a 12-0 run against LH with that trap defense and man to man putting pressure on the Panther offense. They are working the ball inside for the scores.

49-43 FF with 2:38 left and LH at the line on a foul.

LH scores on a transition steal.....51-46 now with 1:41 left.....LH gets a turnover now.

LH misses the 3-pointer and FF gets the rebound and calls timeout to discuss things. 51-46 FF with 1:16 left and FF with the inbound under the LH basket.

LH fouls to put FF on the line.....they miss the one and one free throw.....LH goes down and Naylor gets the 3 pointer to get this game to two....51--49. 47 secs. left and full court pressure on Faith Family by LH. LH calls timeout....it's final timeout.

In transition FF throws the ball away. Now LH has the ball and calls their last timeout.....they did have one left afterall. 41 secs left and a two point game

FF gets it across the line.....works for the final shot.....a penetrating move draws the LH defense and it's dished the the big Fresh Walsh(6-7) under the basket. He jams it at the buzzer for the win!!! What a ball game......what a great finish for this Class 4A State Championship and tremendous finish in the Alamodome. Just a great game by LH and FF as both teams had to come back to make this a great finish. Congrats to Faith Family on their first State Championship in their first trip.

Kudos to the Liberty Hill Running Panthers for just a stellar gameplan and execution against a very talented group from Oak Cliff Faith Family. They proved they belonged in this game and did all that anyone could expect of them to have a chance to get the big upset. Truly a wonderful display of quality and strategic basketball at any level.

The Final in the 6A game is being televised on one of the Fox Sports Plus channels.....it will say high school basketball on the menu.
