Off Season workouts of OLD

How many here can relate to off season workouts where you pulled tires, climbed rope, did various parallel bar exercise including dips . Back in the 70's Celina was a much smaller school with limited finances as most of the other schools that it played . With limited resources the Coaches had to be creative on drills for strength and conditioning. Back then we had just the standard Universal weight machine and one free weight set for dead lifts and squats. Most of our off season training was done outside doing the above mentioned items and several others that I just cannot remember. I actually thought lifting weights was much easier than doing all the outdoor stuff .

Back in my day we played all the sports and never had an offseason.

Don't forget hauling hay. Square bales.

God , I hauled hay every summer sometimes starting in May before school was even out all they thru 2 -A-Days till school started . Very few people understand the art of stacking a bale of hey on a truck so it will make it all the way to a barn that is 10 miles away without having to tie it down. LOL! The only job where I would come back weighing less than when I started the job.

If I remember right you can get close to 700 square bales in a standard 52' trailer. I know you can stack them 6 tall and 7 wide, I just don't remember how deep.

I remember when I got strong enough to throw on and stack in the barn instead of driving and throwing off I went from 3 cents a bale to 7 cents man I thought I was really making it then.

Worked in my grandfather's grocery store in Hungerford in the 60s and 70s where I grew up-pricing stock and buying candy off a truck.

Even sliced cheese and sandwich meat in the market

Scoop and bobcat I am actually surprised how few kids actually have summer jobs any more . We have a niece who mom has already said her summer is pretty much covered up with summer conditioning , volleyball camp , and some other camp that I didn't quite catch during the conversation.

I was in Frisco last week with a little extra time. Decided to make my first trip to Celina. Actually found the football field which wasn't very hard at all. Looks to me like there are lots of housing additions being built. That part of the world seems to be rapidly expanding.

I hated hauling hay - decided to do it once in shorts and a t-shirt, bad idea. I was cut from ankles to thighs and wrists to upper arms. Dad warned me, and of course I didn't listen.

I also helped brand my dad's cows on his farm and got kicked in the leg and I kicked it right back. I also sold fireworks for three years in a stand in front of my house and made good money doing that

Even the band kids are affected, my daughter had two-a-days in band this past summer, they started 23 July.:doh:

Scoop you have done a little bit of it all it sounds like which I think or I wish more kids would actually experience. Trashman I understand what you mean sometimes families cannot even do a summer vacation anymore unless they go as soon as school is out for the summer.
