I had a day of multiple doctor's appointments today so a LOT of waiting was involved and I was bored and worked on some stats. The results are rather odd. Over 20 6A programs have reached the 50 wins in 5 years mark but only 9 5A and 10 4A programs. The trend reverses in the lowest classifications with 16 3A and 17 2A programs with at least 50 wins. Why the discrepancy in 5A and 4A?

Too much Tommyball going on in 4A.

Updated through Week 5 of the 2018 Playoffs.

16 out of 20 11-man teams playing for a title this week are recent usual suspects with Duncanville, West Brook, Shadow Creek and Gruver being the only outsiders. Duncanville and West Brook both have won titles albeit in 1998 and 1982 and Shadow Creek is an undefeated team in its first year of varsity play so can't really qualify as a usual suspect by definition. Gruver is the true newcomer to the state title game with their best seasons ever being going 11-1 in 1961, 10-1 in 2013 and 10-3 in 2017.
