Throw records out window against HV. Always a slugfest. Especially tough there too. Appears Goliad is getting healthy.

Edna and Goliad roll this week. HV and Ykm normal toss up when these 18 mile apart rivals square off. Should be fun.

Goliad should win at home against Hallettsville.......but you just never know with Goliad having so many injured starters not playing. Industrial should take care of Luling no problem. Edna and Yoakum square off in a game that has huge implications for the playoff spots. Hallettsville really only needs to win against Industrial next week to claim a playoff spot. If they win agianst Goliad this week AND Industrial next week.......they would in essence edge Goliad out of the 3rd playoff spot and put Goliad in the 4th playoff spot, unless Goliad beats Edna AND Yoakum that last 2 weeks of the regular season. Then it would be all scrambled up with some ties. Best thing for Goliad this week is to win this game against Hallettsville and not worry about anything else. Yoakum vs Edna is totally a toss-up in my mind.......but secretly I have Yoakum winning this one.

Dave Campbell's Texas Football and some of the "other" polls have Edna completely left out of the Top Ten in 3A-D1.......absurd!!! According to what I've heard and have read about Edna......they are definitely legitimate and SHOULD BE included in the Top Ten of any and all 3A polls. I guess Dave Campbell is counting on both Yoakum AND Goliad defeating Edna......but I wouldn't assume so much with this season's Edna Cowboys team......they aren't 7-0 playing cupcakes......they are the real deal, Holyfield, IMHO. Even if they do lose to both Yoakum and then Goliad the very next week.....both games will be close and Edna will have to be considered a major league playoff contender in the region.

BTW......in 3A-D1: Dave Campbell Texas Football has Goliad as #1 and Yoakum as #2 this week......only in 3A-D1, but for the entire state. No mention of Edna whatsoever......not even a #10 spot. Very wrong and very weird if you ask me. They have some teams in the Top Ten with 2 losses!!

You could argue Edna is better than either Goliad and Ykm at this point of the season. This Friday will tell. But, Goliad, Yoakum and Edna will likely revisit one another again when it really matters --the playoffs.

The district has earned respect from the whole state because of the level of play from all three of these teams. Edna is a very good team and getting better every year under Jerry Long and his coaches. Jerry was the offensive coordinator for George Harris at Gregory Portland before leaving to East Bernard. Now at Edna he’s building another great program that will produce good teams every year. Just a lil trivia, also at GP when Jerry was there was Jay Siebert the HC at Rockport. Many good Wing T/ Slot T coaches have come from GP including Jerry Vance from Liberty Hill and Les Goad from Geronimo Navarro who both coached at GP under Harris or Bruce Bush. Small World.

Like I figured, close. Edna is as we thought, solid. They'll be a tough out come playoffs. Congrats Dogs on the 21-17 win and shutting them down after being down 14-0 after 1Q.

Yes YT it took a couple qtrs for the Dogs to wake up and fight back into this game. They didn’t broadcast this game so I had to keep up with a lot of phone calls. Yoakum needed this kind of game to prepare for Goliad and the playoffs. It’s going to be another slobberknocker when those two teams meet up. One wants revenge and the other wants respect, perfect combination to determine who winning this district. Gona be a good one!

Goliad travels to Edna in Week 10 for yet another marquee matchup for District 14 powers. Yoakum travels to Luling to play a team without a win this season. Hallettsville will battle Industrial to try to win that 4th playoff spot......the winner of this game will get the spot. Goliad secured at least the 3rd spot by defeating Hallettsville Friday night. Now Edna will battle Goliad for the 2nd playoff spot. If Goliad wins, then they will play Yoakum the following week for the District Championship and the number #1 seed from District 14 in the playoffs. If Edna wins, then Goliad can still gain a 3 way tie for the District title by defeating Yoakum on the final week......assuming Edna also wins against Industrial. Then the spots will be determined by a point differential among all three teams

Goliad would have to win out against Edna AND Yoakum to win the district title outright......any way you look at it. If Goliad beats Edna, then Edna is eliminated from a share of the district title. If Goliad loses to Edna, but wins against Yoakum.....then all three teams share the district title.....assuming Edna wins its final district game against Industrial. Then the playoff seeding would be determined by point differential between the three teams against each other. If Goliad loses to Edna AND Yoakum, then Yoakum and Edna will share the district title and Yoakum will earn the #1 playoff seed by way of its win against Edna.....again assuming Yoakum and Edna both win out.

To take this one step further.......there is ONLY one way for Edna to get the #1 playoff seed in District 14. Edna would have to beat Goliad and Industrial, and then hope Goliad beats Yoakum the following week. Then Edna would have to win the point differential between the 3 teams to get the #1 seed. To do that, Edna would have to beat Goliad by at least 4, and hope that Goliad beats Yoakum by more than 1. Ima thinkin' I have covered all the scenarios now.......I hope everything is crystal clear now, LOL.
But now I'm wondering if it is possible for Edna to beat Goliad only by 1 point, and for Goliad to beat Yoakum by at least 4 pts. Yeah......I think that might also work, as long as the total points difference is greater less than Yoakum's. NOPE......Goliad could lose by a close margin to Edna and win against Yoakum by a wider margin and then Goliad would win the points difference between the three teams. :vrycnfsd: Best thing is for Goliad to beat Edna this week and eliminate them from sharing the district title. Then it will come down to the last district game between Goliad and Yoakum for the District Championship and #1 playoff seed. That's what both Goliad AND Yoakum want to happen this week, for sure. :1popcorn:

Nope.....that's not right either. Yoakum would prefer for Edna to beat Goliad THIS week and then to beat Goliad the following week to share the district title with Edna but win the #1 playoff seed due to the head to head win over Edna. Looks to me like neither Yoakum or Edna can win the outright district title without sharing it with at least one other team. Goliad is the ONLY team that could win the District 14 Championship outright without sharing it by winning out. Goliad controls its own destiny here.

Any way you look at it.....it all comes down the last game of district play in the Yoakum-Goliad matchup to determine what will happen......REGARDLESS of the Edna/Goliad result this week. Now I think I have it all summarized correctly. Of course we are assuming that Yoakum beats Luling this week.

Bottom line is both Goliad and Yoakum control their own destiny. Neither has a district loss yet, but Edna does. I forgot that Yoakum lone loss was the first game of the season against Boerne......not a district game. Both teams are very good, but the loss of star QB Rocky Morris(also plays DB) was a HUGE hit to the Tigers. Bland is back at running back but not at full strength yet. Edna/Goliad game is in Edna this week.....but not sure if Yoakum roughed them up a bit or it went the other way around. Slot-T is tough when both RBs are big and strong.....ground and pound all night. Good part for Goliad is they have big guys on the D line.....but valuable MLB Reitz(6-2, 220/Sr.) is out. So two of Goliad's best players on defense and offense are out......that hurts big time against quality competition.

Goliad lost to Edna last week 17-7, so Edna wants Goliad to win against Yoakum. That way Edna shares the district title with both Yoakum and Goliad, but wins the #1 playoff spot if Goliad does not beat Yoakum by 17. Edna is +6 with a 4 point loss to Yoakum and a 10 point win over Goliad. Yoakum is +4 with the win over Edna, but still has Goliad left to play. Goliad -10 with that loss to Edna, but must win against Yoakum this week by 17 to overcome Edna for the top playoff spot. If Goliad wins over Yoakum, they must win by a TD and extra point.....7 pts.....to gain the 2nd playoff spot. If Goliad beats Yoakum by any score.....Edna wins the top playoff spot. If Yoakum wins over Goliad, Yoakum wins the district title outright. If Goliad wins over Yoakum, but by less than 7 pts......then Edna takes the top spot, and Yoakum the #2 spot with the 3-way point differential tie-breaker rule in effect. Clear as a bell.....right?

Goliad 17
Yoakum 14

Final

3-way tie for district title.....Edna wins the tie-breaker point differential for the #1 playoff spot. Yoakum gets the #2 spot and Goliad stays at the #3 spot.

Some sites are showing Goliad as the #2 seed in this district......I'm not sure that is correct. I thought with a 3-way tie for the District Title.....UIL rules call for a point differential to determine the seeding. If that is true.....then Yoakum should get the #2 seed, not Goliad. Yoakum ended up +1 in points between the other two opponents.....while Goliad ended up -7 points against Yoakum and Edna....even though they won the head to head against Yoakum. I'ma thinkin' those sites are wrong and Yoakum gets the #2 seed.....unless point differential only matters to determine which team gets the #1 seed, then reverts to head to head for the other two.
