#1 Brock (3A) at Brownwood (4A)

Last year's 3A (Division 1) State Finalists, Brock Eagles, will travel to Gordon Wood Stadium to play the Brownwood Lions. The game will be broadcast live at 5:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest.

Does anyone know how Brock did in their scrimmages?

Brownwood didn't do so well against Liberty Hill in scrimmage 1, but we seemed to do most anything we wanted against Burnet in scrimmage 2 from what I read in the paper.

Depends on Brownwood's defense against Brock. I'm pretty sure the Lions will put up the points. I'm taking the Lions by 7 in this one. Besides......QB Tommy Bowden may be related to me. If he's related to Bobby Bowden and that clan......then we are related. Bobby and my Dad are direct cousins of the first order.

Bowden looked really good on the last scrimmage. Threw the ball very accurately, very good at escaping the rush, ran the option perfectly.

Brock is stout, no doubt about it. But I think Brownwood being a classification larger has more depth. Not sure Brock’s 10-1 defense is going to be able to stop the speed of the Brownwood receivers. Brownwood by 14!

I know Brock is going to be good, but Brownwood has the tradition and is quite a bit larger. I saw some good athletes for the Lions in 7-on-7, so this is a surprise. Line play not there right now?

No! The line play wasn’t worth a crap! Qb was getting hit before could drop back. Also questionable play calling. When they’re sending the house throw quick slants or screens. Everything was deep and that obviously didn’t work. Secondary is suspect as well!!!!

Hit the nail on the head. I'm not saying it would have changed the outcome, but the game would have maybe been more entertaining to watch had Brownwood called some slants. We didn't throw a slant all night and Brock left the middle of the field wide open the entire second half. In the second half we were mostly in a 5 WR set. Brock manned up on them and sent their other 6 on a blitz. We ran 2 screens the entire night and no slants.

Maybe it was just seeing it on TV but was unimpressed with size and speed of the wood wasn't this supposed to be an improved squad from last year

Not really. Imo last years team was skill-wise far better, and if play calling was a bit better, we would have had a better record too.
