The Wharton County High School Football Coaches Luncheon returns after a year absence and will be held Thursday, Aug 9 at Mikeska's Barbecue in El Campo.
Coaches from El Campo, Wharton, East Bernard, Louise Boling and Rice Consolidated will speak before a crowd of over 100 about the upcoming football season.
I came up with the idea of the luncheon back in 1986 when I was writing sports for the Wharton Journal-Spectator Newspaper and it alternated in Wharton and El Campo. It grew to where it is an couldn't find a place big enough in Wharton and moved to Mikeska's every year since the late 90s.
