Kilgore(27-4) vs Argyle(33-0): Region II Baseball Final Series

I guess Argyle will be the home team......they have Argyle's name last in the matchup. Every game will be played in Corsicana starting at 7:30 each evening in this best of three series starting Wednesday May 30th. Sportsgram will air it for Argyle Broadcasting Network for the Argyle call......not sure about Kilgore's side. I suspect Argyle will stay with Bryson Hutchins(11-0, 0.88 ERA) to start the first game of this series like he's done throughout the playoffs. I would also totally expect Javan Smitherman(10-2, 1.02 ERA) to get the start for Kilgore. I would think both teams will start their aces to try and capture a win in the first game of the series. Sean Bolin(8-0, 0.64 ERA) and Chad Ricker(6-0, 0.40 ERA) are two more starters for Argyle in their deep staff this season. Sophomore Chase Hampton(8-0, 1.70 ERA) is Kilgore's No.2 pitcher this season. Smitherman is a Dallas Baptist signee and has thrown 131 strikeouts this season with just 15 walks allowed. That's alot of strikeouts, folks......just to let you know. Relief pitchers could also play an important role in this series.......we'll have to see how the games evolve. Well today is the day we get this matchup started. Kilgore knows exactly what their up against and at the end of the day it's still just a baseball gm for both teams. Good luck to both teams win or lose I'm sure both school communities are proud of their teams.

This should be a fantastic series. Argyle is loaded. Kilgore is a solid/deep team. Good luck both to both teams. It sure is fun to play in Austin/Round Rock!

Smitherman pitched his heart out and reached his pitch limit in the 5th.. 3 ER. That’s about as much as you can ask for against a lineup like Argyle’s.

Game 2 tonight.......Kilgore is the visiting team and will bat first.

Top half of the first.....Kilgore gets a single and a walk. Runners stranded at 1st and 2nd.

Argyle gets a hit and an errant throw to 1st on another hard hit ball to 2nd baseman, but the ball bounces off the Argyle dugout right back into the hands of the 1st baseman. He was able to throw the batter out at 2nd to end the inning. The runner on 1st ended up stranded at 3rd on the play.

Argyle scores first on a double to the wall in right by Austin King. Previous batter Hayden Clearman(3-4 last night) walked on 4 pitches and scored from first base.

Kilgore has a very good team......they field well and hit well.....and have some good arms pitching. One of their hitters just hit one to the warning track in center.....against the wind. Without the wind it probably would have been a homer. Brendan Dixon hit a homer for Argyle last night......he's a junior shortstop with a verbal to play at Texas. He's also a valuable player on the football team in the secondary. Hayden Clearman, right fielder, is the QB on the football team.

Both teams hitting the ball......one walk given up by each team and a couple of strikeouts by each pitcher so far.

Kilgore threatens with a double and single, but Argyle gets the third out to end the inning. Kilgore strands runners on 1st and 3rd. Argyle coming to bat in the bottom half of the 4th.

Austin King lines a hard shot to the shortstop and doubles up the runner at 2nd breaking for 3rd on the hit. Now Alex Gonzales lines one hard down the left field line and scores the runner from first for another run. The ball went all the way to the wall.

No. 9 hitter Cade Merka(third baseman) walks to load the bases. Brendan Dixon up with 2 outs.

Dixon walks with a full count......Clearman comes in for another score. The bases are still loaded. Now Preston King is hit in the back with a fastball. Another run comes in and the bases are still loaded with 2 outs. 4-0 Argyle now.

Pickoff play by the catcher at 3rd base and airmails it all the out into left field. Two more Argyle runs score on the throwing error. There was no reason to throw the ball.....he was not that far off the bag and there were 2 outs. Now Ricker is walked.....two men on base still for Argyle.

Pitching change for Kilgore now......runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Chase Hampton ran into some trouble in the 4th.

Lefty Brayden Johnson on for Kilgore now. First pitch to Dillon Carter is a strike. Dillon was the first Argyle batter this inning.....now Argyle has batted around.

Full count to Carter now......runners will be going. He walks Carter......bases loaded again as Bryson Hutchins comes to the plate. He's the DH tonight. He pops it up behind first base and the 2nd baseman overruns the ball as it falls fair to score two more runs......just unbelievable set of plays here for Kilgore. Now Dillon Carter on 3rd base steals home as the catcher throws it nonchalantly back to the mound. He's safe on the slide to score yet another run this inning for the Eagles. Now Johnson gets a called 3rd strike on the corner to end the inning. Argyle scores 8 runs on one error in the 4th.

Runner on 3rd with 2 outs for Kilgore......Smitherman up to bat now. He's the shortstop and their ace pitcher last night. Dribbler hit and Bolin comes off the mound and fires it to first to get him by a half step for the 3rd out.

Argyle just continues putting pressure on its opponents with their hitting. It causes the opponent to make errors and mental mistakes......and to give up some walks. Last night Kilgore walked a few, but Hutchins for Argyle didn't and neither did Ricker in relief.

Perfectly executed hit and run as Ben Pound pounds one to right field and moves Gonzo to 3rd. Gonzales had a hard hit to right field as the previous batter. Pound tries to stretch it to a double and is thrown out at 2nd. Now there are two outs. RBI triple for King off the fence at the 385 sign scores Gonzo to end the game. Argyle advances to the State Tournament in Austin with a 10 run rule victory tonight over Kilgore in the bottom half of the 5th.

Sean Bolin goes 9-0 on the season now giving up no runs on 5 hits and no errors for the Eagles tonight. Argyle will play the winner between the Sweeny/Fredericksburg Region IV Final being played right now. They are in the 3rd game of the series tonight. Argyle goes to (35-0) on the season and are Region II Champions.

Argyle is the first team to reach the State Tournament undefeated in any classification since Brock did it in 2010. I hope they win two more. GO EAGLES.....WIN STATE!!!

Looks like Argyle will be playing Sweeny in the State Semifinal next week. Sweeny edged out Fredericksburg tonight 2-1 in a close game and close series to capture the Region IV Championship.
