The article says he was born in 1963.That would make him 54.More like 1930.Funny guy.

That's the way it seems to read, but I think the article meant he became a regular on "The Andy Griffith Show" in 1963. It was just confusing the way the sentence was written, "Born in Alabama, In (sic) 1963, Nabors was a regular performer CBS sitcom The Andy Griffith Show as a mechanic at Wally's filling station." Who was the editor?

Anyway, RIP, Gomer Pyle.

That's the way I first read it and told the wife " no way" but she caught how it was quoted. Then maybe he was born Feb. 29th.

When we lose someone like this I always think about George Jones song "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes"

Loved watching "Gomer Pyle"......I'll bet I'm one of the few who can say I saw Jim Nabors in concert!.....yup, still remember as a little kid our dad taking us to the Astrodome where he was to perform....it started out with a large marine corp band marching out onto the field....it was impressive....the band made several maneuvers and turns with great precision.....then to everybody's surprise the band made a 180 turnaround and one marine in the corner kept going in the wrong direction!!.....yep you guessed it, it was Jim Nabors himself!....No one knew he was out there marching until that moment.....he ran up on stage and told the crowd, "I'll be ya'll didn't think I could march that good!"......everybody cracked up!......and man that guy could sing!!!.......
