Big 2nd round matchup. I think Kennedale will be just a little to much for the Vandals.

As much as I would like to see Van win, I think Kennedale will be too much. Kennedale by 2 to 3 TDs.

According to current team stats, Kennedale passing yardage accounts for about 17% of their total yardage.
Passing attempts account for 14% of total plays. The QB has a high rating because he usually throws "safe" passes with a high completion rate.
The backfield is very deceptive and the two RB's explode off the line. If the linebackers miss 'em, their gone. If they are tackled in the open, they usually drag 2-3 tacklers for several yards.
If the defense concentrates on the RB's, the QB is tough and will run quite well and he will throw the ball when the secondary and line backers have blinders on.
What I said above is not the best part about the Wildcats this year. Their defense has learned to deal with the spread offense of many teams. Even with the loss of Baron Browning, the defense is much
stronger overall. You can't replace a Baron Browning but the defense has taken it upon themselves to be the best Kennedale has ever had and I believe they have accomplished that.
Many teams are strong on offense or defense but special teams can be a killer. Not so with Kennedale. The kickoffs usually result in starting at the 25 yard line. Last game, the kickoff went through the uprights. The one thing that concerns me is turnovers and penalties. If that's under control, then we're OK. We shall see come Friday at the STAR.

At least the weather won't be a factor at the Star. :D No wind, central air, domed. I would love to see us play a game there. Awesome venue from what I understand. Expensive, but nice.

I hope Van plays well, to be honest. I have a brother-in-law who coaches at Van. I still think Kennedale will likely be too much for them, though.

Yeah......this is the closest game to me at noon on Friday. I was thinking about cruising over there to see this matchup. Then Pleasant Grove and Aubrey kick at 4 pm at the Star.

Nobody’s held Kennedale to less than 50 points yet... oh wait. But despite that one blip I’ll be shocked to see anyone beat them.

I'm certain that if Argyle gets a shot at them, I can promise you that Coach Rodgers has the formula of how to slow them down. Argyle allows only 14 pts/game.....and at least half of those points were scored against the 2nd and 3rd teamers.

This matchup could very well happen, and it'd be a lot of fun if it did. I think Kennedale has an excellent chance to win Region II. I'd put them right behind Midlothian Heritage as the favorites. Either one of those teams against Argyle would be a dandy, though, I'll say that.

As far as this matchup goes, I like Kennedale by a couple of TDs over Van.

Way too early prediction (barring major injuries): Argyle edges a good SV team in round 3 then rolls to the Region I title, Kennedale is just physically too much for MH and takes Region II. With Copeland I would have picked Argyle in the Semi but without him--Kennedale makes it to State to face Carthage.

I agree that more definitely with Copeland, but still a 50/50 chance with a very accurate throwing Hayden Clearman at qb. He's very athletic and is a threat when he runs it. Just not the experience level as Copeland brought, but a very good qb by any standards in 4A. Copeland was just exceptional......one of those qb's that teams hope to get once a decade. Copeland would have been great in 5A-D1.....easily.....maybe even 6A with most teams.

I'd put him up against the Jones kid at Highland Park any day.

A drop off, sure, but still good enough to be favored by double digits in every game leading up to the state championship.

I think the only stat I might try to follow in the Kennedale/Van game is quarterback overthrows and intentional "out of bounds" throws. That usually indicates defensive pressure.
I would only do this on a good quarterback which Van has, and MH and Argyle etc.
I really don't know if Kennedale's quarterback reads defenses and makes adjustments on the line...probably not.
WOW!!!! The semi-finals will be awesome if predictions come true: Carthage / La Vega and Kennedale / Argyle.
I say to the Wildcats : "Keep your sights set on the Prize and give your best".

Midlothian Heritage is plenty physical this year, and most likely the only team in region 2 capable of matching Kennedale in that area. But, what do I know..I’ve seen both teams on scout videos, and in person this season.

Crazy game now......24-21 Kennedale. Van scores a TD after Kennedale scores to start the 2nd half. Then Van gets the onside kick. They immediately score on a reverse halfback pass for a TD to bring in to within 3 points. Now they do another onsides kick and get it, but are called for offsides. Van will rekick now.

Regular kickoff now goes for a touchback. Kennedale starts on their own 25.

Van moves it to their own 40 on 3rd and long on a good completion. Mosely having trouble finding time to set his feet and throw.

Van forced to punt......caught at the 30 yd line and pushed out of bounds at the 36.

Knowles for no gain now.....2nd and 10.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:12 PM
Jowers to Knowles down to the 2 yd line for a first down and goal.

Jowers pitches to Kervin for a TD. Kennedale goes for 2 and makes it untouched.

9:47 left in the game for this kickoff. He takes it from the 1 and is tackled on the 16......not good field position for the Vandals.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:16 PM
Deep pass incomplete to Doring.....underthrown by only a yard as defender fell down on the deflection.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:18 PM
3rd and 10 at the Vandal 16 for Mosely. First down to Robinson on a completion. Now they say it's incomplete......Van forced to punt from deep in its own territory. Punt to the Kennedale 46.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:19 PM
About 8 min. left for Kennedale.....2nd and 8. Now 3rd and 8 on that deep incompletion.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:21 PM
Handoff up the middle to Knowles gets only 2. Van forces a punt.....but maybe not. Standing from his 40 bounces and rolls out at the Vandal 24 with less than 8 mins. left.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:21 PM
Van to the 48 on a screen pass.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:24 PM
3rd and 2 for Van now......bad snap to the Vandal 41 as Mosely gets on it......a 15 yd loss. Van will have to punt it......bad mistake by the snapper. Punts ends up at the Wildcat 11.

11-24-2017, 03:26 PM
Van shoots itself in the foot when they really needed a first down in this game. They are in big trouble now, for sure.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:27 PM
3rd and 11 for Kennedale from its own 10 as Van calls a timeout.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:28 PM
Handoff to David Roper as he loses a yard. 4th down and a timeout by Kennedale now from deep in its own end.

Punt to the 45 and tackled at the Kennedale 40.

Van down to the Kennedale 28 on that completion, but only 3:38 left.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:32 PM
Now a completion to the 2 yd line for Van.

Van finally scores after a penalty and several plays. The kick is good.

Kennedale 35
Van 28

2:35 left

Onside kick attempt likely coming

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:38 PM
Onside kick is recovered by Kennedale player 4 yds before it rolls 10 yds. I think you have to kick it with more speed. Now a handoff to Knowles for a long TD run on first down. The kick is good.

Kennedale 42
Van 28

2:29 left.....not much time expired there.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:41 PM
Maybe Van let him score to get the ball back.....but I doubt it......that makes no sense at all.

regaleagle
11-24-2017, 03:47 PM
Kennedale intercepts long pass at their own 43 yd line to put an end to Van's hopes. Now Kennedale will kill this clock and advance to Round 3 next week.

Good call .com. I really wasn't sure but my judgement on the Kennedale secondary was spot on. Van will score no matter who they play but Kennedale held them to their lowest score of the year.
As the game wore on, the QB rush and secondary clamped down. The big surprise play was the on-side kick, followed by the RB pass to a wide open receiver. The momentum shifted and I got nervous.
I'm very proud of the way the Wildcats stayed focused to finish the game. Congratulations to Van...you will win Region II next year from what I see.
