D 12 - Div. 1
EL Campo is in , Stafford is out. Bay City, Sealy, Needville, Brazosport and Columbia won't know until they come off the field Friday whether they have made the post season. Not one of those teams has clinched a spot and any one of them could share the district title or stay home. One thing is certain - two pretty good teams will be staying home along with Stafford..

You're correct. Winner between CC West Oso and Port Isabel gets a hot date with Cuero. Either way, it'll be a massacre of epic levels.

If Whitehouse beats Lindale and Nacogdoches beats Jacksonville by more than 6 then Nac Makes the playoffs!

El Campo is definitely in the playoffs.
Bay City, Brazosport, West Columbia, Needville, and Sealy are all fighting for spots on Friday (Stafford is out)
Our district goes by points and I am trying to get the scenarios figured out myself.

From the El Campo radio station:

PLAYOFF SCENARIOS
11/8/17

After the Full Moon Fever of last Friday---the District 12-4A race is as messed up as the plotline of Showtime’s, Shameless—but probably not as much fun.
And it’s definitely not as much fun to coaches.
Heading into Friday night, there are 3 games, 6 teams and every one of them is playing for 4 playoff spots. This is what the UIL was aiming for, when they set up their 4 team scenario.
Thanks to the number crunching from Gary Martin, Editor with The Gulf Coast Tribune in Needville, we have all the permutations involving El Campo and Needville.
So, here goes:
I. El Campo takes district title with a win over Bay City

II. Stafford has been eliminated; Columbia or Sealy will be eliminated with a loss.

III. Needville gets playoff berth with win over Brazosport
a) If there is a 3-way tie for first - Bay City 1st, Needville is 2nd, El Campo is 3rd
b) If Bay City loses to El Campo - El Campo is 1st, Needville is 2nd, Brazosport is 3rd

IV. If Needville loses, Blue Jays can still makes playoffs if Columbia beats Sealy
a) If Bay City loses to force a 3-way tie for third with Needville and Columbia, Bay City is 3rd, Needville is 4th.
b) If Sealy beats Columbia - Needville is eliminated due to point differential

V. If Bay City and Brazosport both win
a) Bay City is 1st if it wins by more than 6 points and El Campo is 3rd..
b) If Bay City wins by less than 6 points, El Campo is 1st, Bay City is 3rd
c) If Bay City wins by 6 points - Bay City, El Campo and Brazosport all finish tied with zero point differential, would be broken by coin flips (according to Needville head coach Michael Giles)
Pretty interesting stuff.

Guess I should clarify my own post since there was some confusion from one of the Cuero posters. I may have been a little buzzed when I made this, as if I recall correctly I was drowning my sorrows in yet another Port Isabel Tarpon loss.

First off. Rio Hondo has already locked up the District Championship and #1 seed. They already have a date set with Aransas Pass who has locked up the #4 seed in District 15

There are TWO Week 11 Matchups that will decide the rest of the seeding in District 16

Raymondville vs. Orange Grove
CC West Oso vs. Port Isabel

The Raymondvillle vs. Orange Grove matchup will determine the #2 and #3 seeds as both are currently tied with 1 district loss each (both to Rio Hondo). The winner of this game locks up #2 and a game vs. Sinton. The loser of this game locks up #3 and a game vs. Sweeny.

The CC West Oso vs. Port Isabel matchup will determine who clinches the final playoff spot and who gets an early start to their basketball season. The winner of this game locks up #4 seed and a game vs. Cuero.

In Summary....

Rio Hondo vs. Aransas Pass (game already set)
Raymondville/Orange Grove winner vs. Sinton
Raymondville/Orange Grove loser vs. Sweeny
CC West Oso/Port Isabel winner vs. Cuero <-------------------- For you 44INAROW

If so, I can ask a couple of the Raymondville posters on the 956 boards to see if they've heard anything.

Raymondville matchup also Sinton but Refugio would seem better for both as far as distance. IF OG then could be in Victoria.

In Region II, there are 3 strong teams in the upper bracket.....Kennedale, Van and Midlothian Heritage. The lower bracket will be controlled by Kaufman. Kaufman's only loss was a close score to a high ranked Bishop Lynch team. Kennedale had very close games with Van and MH last year and escaped with wins to be Region champ. These two teams who have returning players will remember and be motivated. Kennedale wants to advance one or two steps further than last year. I watched the Kaufman/Van game and both have very good coaching and the teams are well disciplined. Again this year, there will be tough battles all through the bracket no matter who's playing.
MH's record doesn't lie. They are averaging 45 points per game. What a nightmare for the secondary. Kaufman is well balanced and the QB is smart plus a fast runner. You gotta keep a spy on him!!! Being a Kennedale homer I will talk about them after the first round. People don't tend to read long posts, so I will end.

Roughnecks go for broke against Tigers

By JOEL LUNA (https://thefacts.com/users/profile/Joel%20Luna)joel.luna@thefacts.co (joel.luna@thefacts.com)m 14 hrs ago

WEST COLUMBIA — In District 12-4A D-I, where six of the seven teams still have an opportunity at playing next week, it could come down to who gets the best of whom Friday. For the Columbia Roughnecks, there will be no counting or subtracting numbers afterward. It is quite simple for them.

“All of the scenarios that we went through, points are not going to be involved, which is kind of crazy,” Columbia coach Brent Mascheck said. “We were worried about points, but all we need is for Needville to beat B’port and we need to win. The only thing we control is what we do Friday night.”

It sounds simple enough for the 2-3 Roughnecks, who are 4-3 overall, especially after coming off a huge victory against Brazosport last week.

“This is how crazy this is; El Campo, who is in first place, if they lose to Bay City and Needville wins, El Campo will drop to third place,” Mascheck said. “Bay City would get first followed by Needville, El Campo and we will get forth.”

When it comes down to the opponent Columbia will be facing this week, the Sealy Tigers, who also are 2-3 in district and 4-4 overall, things also could work out in their favor. The Tigers need Bay City to lose as well as either Needville or Brazosport, which then would get down into point differential.

The 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Tiger Stadium between Columbia and Sealy will be a huge matchup.

Mascheck was pleased about last week’s effort as the Roughnecks might have found their missing link.

“We finally played a complete game, we’ve been preaching and preaching,” he said. “Defensively, I thought we had been playing real well the entire season, and even in that Needville game in the second half, we played well offensively. But I just didn’t feel like we had played a complete game until last Friday, offense, defense and special teams. I thought special teams were huge last week. Our kickoff teams played so well, pinning them back the entire game. It was a total team effort and something that we’ve been waiting on all year against a very good Brazosport team.”

In his first official start at quarterback, sophomore Cameron Ward threw for a couple of scores, scored a rushing touchdown and passed for more then 100 yards.

“We made the change at quarterback and starting his first varsity game, I thought he did an unbelievable job,” Mascheck said. “He threw the football great and handled the huddle great. He opened up some things in our passing game, and our offensive line dominated the line of scrimmage.”

Facing the Tigers will be quite a task as the ’Necks will be up against the district’s top offense, which is generating 466.3 yards a contest. Much of that comes from junior quarterback Garret Zaskoda, who is 168-for-272 with 2,479 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Zaskoda’s top two targets lead the district as well, with Justin Eckhardt, who has 60 catches for 933 yards and 11 scores and Tyreke McNease, who has 48 catches for 790 yards and six touchdowns.

The top runner for the Tigers is Ivan Bolden, who has 120 carries for 703 yards, 5.86 yards per carry and eight touchdowns.

“This district,” a smiling Mascheck said, “there is no rest for the weary. We are playing against a team that has thrown for close to 3,000 yards. They have the top two receivers in the district and the quarterback can throw the ball. No rest for the weary in this district, we have our hands full this Friday.

“The thing is we have to come out just like we did last week, come out focused mentally and not have any mental mistakes. That was a big key last Friday, mentally we were just in it. There were no key mistakes. But the talent in this district, if you make any mental mistakes, the big plays will kill you and that is going to be the key against Sealy.”

Columbia’s defense, which allows 275.4 yards per game, and its new found offensive spark could give Sealy’s defense fits come game time.

They're winless. The previous leadership allowed the Basketball and Baseball teams to walk all over the football team by taking the best athletes and not allowing them to play other sports. In essence, "specialists". And the football team has whatever is left.

However, they've given Monty full reign and the kids are now allowed to play any and all sports they like/want. It'll be a few years, though, for Hidalgo to be relevant in football again. That's how much damage has been done in Hidalgo, just to give you an idea on the situation there.

As for my source, I was at the Port Isabel vs. Hidalgo game and struck up a conversation with someone who happened to be a Hidalgo school board member.

District 13, DI - LH vs Gatesville for seeding and 2nd in district for LH. Assuming CS beats Lampasas, a win by LH means we're 2nd. An LH loss means a 3-way tie for 2nd. I have no idea our tiebreaker rules, but our 1-pt win over CS won't help much there. A China Spring loss would put them at 4th.
