View Full Version : Navarro Panthers (7-0) @ Wimberley Texans (7-1)

Tejastrue

Panthers visit Wimberley for a much anticipated district showdown. Navarro is coming off a week of rest and of course some extra time to prepare.

Common opponents:

Giddings: Texans win 45 -28
Panthers win 29 - 28

Llano : Texans win 45-7
Panthers win 21- 7

Looking at these two games the Texans would appear to have a significant advantage but as were are continually reminded it has been 4 (almost 5) years since a Wimberley victory.

Ready for discussion.......

Navarro by 40.

Or 50.

If they have a running clock in the 2nd half, maybe 40.

Doesn't Navarro run one of those ball control offensive schemes that lends itself to lower scoring? And don't they also have a very good defense this season? What are the total Points Allowed for each team this season?

Navarro has allowed 125 points I think in 7 games and they really have not played anybody. If the stats are correct Wimberley has allowed 160 points in 8 games. I have heard the transitive property does not apply in football.

Overall 4A Game of the Week? You could certainly make that argument, and I wouldn't fight you. Love what Navarro is doing, in what I honestly thought would be a rebuilding year, but I think Wimberley gets back on top of this rivalry coke Friday. Give me Texans by two scores.

Not to mention how the ball has been spread around. Looking at receiving stats, 4 receivers... 1 just under 700, 1 at 600, 1 at 500 and another at 300 plus. All capable of taking it to the house. With that said I think our running game will be the key. Getting closer!

That's really impressive. It's also a nightmare to try to scheme for that much talent spread across the field, and a QB who has the capacity to get the ball to that talent at a very efficient clip.

2013 a controversial end to the game gave Fredericksburg the win over Navarro and thus the district Championship.

That was interesting.

Weeks played as well as a kid can possibly play.

Navarro's D looked lost, though. There were quite a few plays where Weeks had multiple open receivers to throw to, and I still don't think the Panthers have figured out who was supposed to cover the TE.

Our tackling was also terrible.

Navarro doesn't have the talent of the past few years, but they are still a tough group of kids. Eveld is a real stud. It kind of seems that they're not utilizing his talent in that offense.

Wimbo is a heck of a ball club, probably the most offense this series has ever seen in one game. Navarro has got to work on pass coverage if they are to make a playoff run this year. I see Wimbo going 4 rounds, maybe 5 depending on how it all plays out.

You are correct. Never comes off the field. He is an all around Great Young Man. So excited that he will continue his career playing Football at Brown University next Fall!!

Just a Great game between great rivals. Navarro needed a stop and Wimberley stopped us once in the 1st quarter. How did you like the 10 minute drive? Hats off to JoJo and that passing offense. I was more than impressed with the receivers and passing that was on point. Just was hoping to get 1 or 2 on sides and then it would have been interesting!

It was indeed a great game. We still can't defend the Navarro slot-t. Oh, we had our moments. Just enough I guess. That personal foul on our d-back was laughable. :crazy1:

The Gazette had nothing to do with this article. Written as always by one of the best Scot Kibbe who has covered the Panthers for more years that you have been around. Scot does a top notch job on all previews and articles covering the games. He does not work as a full time employee. They have changed editors many, many times and there are many pics submitted each week.

Scot is Mr. Navarro and can quote any stat you would want to know concerning records of Navarro Football.

Scot has a great sense of humor and drives many miles from his home each week to cover the games often taking off from his job.

Besides was he incorrect in his description? Wimberley line played excellent and Jo Jo had enough time to read War and Peace if he wanted.

"But his line gave him so much time on this chilly autumn evening that Weeks could have sipped a pumpkin spice latte as he surveyed the field". Looked at the video earlier and Jordan delivered the ball in 2 to 4 seconds on almost every play...the offense is that keen. Also, Weeks completions was about 85% on a cold breezy night against one of the best teams/coaches in the state. No picks, qb rating around 140.

They seemed to be playing “pitch and catch”. Texans rushed over 100 yd, avg over 6 yd a carry.

I did not mean to call you out but you acted as if the Gazette was ready for the demise of the Panthers! Not true but honestly Marcel the former Sports editor never went to a Panther game until the Cuero game. So I don't understand why you think he was so great.
As far as pics go sometimes they do and sometimes they lack but in reality that is all up to the Sports Editor and the newspaper editor. Many pics are sent in each week. Maybe drop the editor a line with your concerns. Same goes for Volleyball as they beat LaVernia twice in one week and nothing doing that I saw.
Thank you for retracting your implications about Mr Kibbe as he does an excellent job and has for many years.
