Wylie takes the short 5 hour, 260 mile trip to play Denison in their homecoming game. 'Dawgs a little beat up after defeating a big, physical 5A team from Lubbock Monterey and now have several key starters out with injuries and maybe looking ahead a little to Argyle next week. Everyone seems to think Wylie will win this one handily but I'm worried. Go with my 'Dawgs by 1... maybe 28-27.

10-7 Wylie at the half. Wylie's offense has struggled to have consistency in the game with their backup QB and a few other starters out. Defense is playing very well, but Denison has helped out with two fumbles they had led to all of the Wylie points. If the offense gets going in the 2nd half Wylie should be able to pull out the victory.

Wylie gets the ball to start the 2ns half.

Tied up 17-all, start of 4th quarter in an absolute dogfight. Denison has a significant size advantage across both lines and they play hard.

And these coaches have a history from Rogers days at Snyder.

I just had a feeling.. but Wylie will still be tough to dethrone from the district title.

Pluses and minuses to playing big and fast 5A teams...

Pluses are:
1) we will likely not see any other teams as big the rest of the year
2) playing really tough competition in pre-district games shows you your weaknesses and allows the coaches to make changes
3) it prepares us for next year when we likely move to 5A

Minuses are:
1) playing teams that are bigger, stronger, faster and deeper than you can get you beat up... we have lost several key starters including our QB
2) if you get trampled it can break your spirit--that has not happened, we went 1-1 this year and have an overall winning record against 5A teams since I've been in Wylie (15 yrs)

On balance and after having time to reflect on the loss last night, this Wylie team is not as physically imposing as last year, is not as deep and is beat up right now... but they do have that 'it' factor--they play together as a team, they are very coachable and they never give up. They will be very tough to beat in district and will be a very tough out in the playoffs...

Not a surprise to hear from a Wylie team. They have the best coach within 200 miles.
