Celina, Cameron and Wylie all in the same pool?! That ought to be a fun dogfight to get outta that one. Hard to see any of those teams going 3-0 in pool play, and pool K looks like the runaway toughest one, in my opinion.

China Spring/Gilmer ought to be a fun matchup, too, over in pool G.

Can't believe East Bernard made it to state

East Bernard is typically very good in 7on7...above average athletes who dont like losing

Agree the Celine, Yoe, Wylie pool is the best....Needville is no slouch either at 7on7...

Were you at the Celina SQT on Saturday, Matt? If so, what was your impression of the Bobcats? I'm told the 'first-team' guys didn't take many reps on Saturday, but wanted a non-Bobcat's take.

I do still believe Pool K is the toughest in the whole DII field, but, upon further inspection, Pool C (Midlothian Heritage, Somerset, Wimberley and Springtown) ought to be a ton of fun to watch, too. I'd say there are pretty high expectations for three of those teams this fall. And a Brock/Graham showdown over in Pool J will be entertaining, too. And I wouldn't sleep on Mexia's athletes, either.

WOS would do well at 7-on-7, regardless of who is at QB, in my opinion. Tremendous athletes who compete and don't feel like they should lose. That's a good combo, and that's - generally speaking - why teams that have success at 7-on-7, typically have success in the fall. Of course, that blanket statement doesn't cover everyone, and there are always some outliers on both ends of the spectrum.

I'd also follow @Texas7on7 and any local reporter from your area who will be in College Station for the tournament. You'll likely find scores much quicker through those avenues.

Scoop - I'm pretty sure Mike Forman (Victoria Advocate) will be updating on Cuero, Goliad, Bay City, El Campo and Falls City on Twitter.... (for those of us south of IH 10 - I know we don't matter much but it's nice to keep up with how the teams are doing) just having some fun - :)

Gilmer has never even come close to winning state in touch football. So this is no big surprise except for losing to Hardin-Jefferson, which is not even a passing team.

Gilmer has also never been known for defense. That's one of the reasons the Buckeyes only have three state titles to five for Carthage.

Very impressive performances from: Pleasant Grove, China Spring, Argyle, Graham, Cameron Yoe, Kaufman and Cuero.

Also, got to give it to San Augustine for going 3-0. Not a great pool but still a good accomplishment for a 2A school.

Oh, I was being a little tongue-in-cheek with what I said. I obviously would rather see the Bobcats run the table and win this thing, as opposed to going winless. But none of this matters when the pads come on in September. Celina will be just fine.

Heck, the Bobcats have won this thing a couple times, then went on to win a state title later that December. And then Celina's best team of all time (2005) didn't come close to winning the 7on7 title. And then Celina won it in 2009, and that was probably the worst Celina team of my lifetime - though, to be fair, they were riddled with injuries. We also won 7on7 in 2012 and had a mediocre season that fall.

All in all, I just wanna see the guys compete, build some team unity and chemistry, and pinpoint some things they can focus on getting better at as the summer progresses and leads us into two-a-days.

I couldn't agree more! It's amazing we don't have more titles. If we were a good defensive team there would be no stopping us in the fall most years.

Well, Celina got thumped by Midlothian Heritage to cap off an 0-4 showing at College Station. First time ever we've gone winless at the state tournament. To my knowledge, though, we will start the season at 0-0 on Sept. 1st, but somebody may need to check me on that.
