West Nile virus is epidemic in Texas now and can lead to a fatal encephalitis. The virus is transmitted by mosquito bites. The prime time for bites is at dusk and extends to dawn. Repelent with DEET such as Off! is recommended before going outside during this period. What plans, if any, do the coaches have to provide repelent to their players who will be practicing in the early evenings and playing at night? I would recommend making repelent available on the field and in the locker rooms and encouraging its use.
