So I will get it going! Rangers will be in the playoffs this season:), But behind the Stros, offseason moves were the key, Go Astros!!!

Starting pitching will be what makes or breaks Houston this year.

The bullpen was historically good last year and the lineup is drastically improved. Could be the best in the majors this year. Starting pitching the big ??????

Hoping keuchel can put together a nice outing tonight

Very disappointing loss for Houston yesterday. They wasted 3 opportunities with the bases loaded yesterday, twice with 1 out... the last of which in the 9th inning.

Houston just needs to get healthy. Altuve and Springer are both sitting out the last several games, and marisnick and mchugh are on the DL.

They've been managing to win despite these injuries but a great team like Cleveland will take advantage of your mistakes and short-handedness

Saggy Aggie

Worth noting that Hamels was scratched from tonight's start. Hope it's nothing serious - injuries suck.

The great news for Houston is they managed to win with their worst starter on the mound tonight and have already won at least 2/4 in a series where Keuchel won't pitch. Other good news is that it sounds like Collin McHugh might return soon. I expect to see Fiers out of the rotation at that point. He's been awful

I am a Rangers fan... prob always will be. The last 2 years have been fun to watch--this year not so much. Having arguably your best player (Beltre) not even having seen the field so far this year and now losing your number one starter (Hamels) for a couple of months along with the hugely disappointing flame outs of your closer (Dyson) and DH (Napoli) has made for a disappointing start. No sympathy expected. That's just how baseball go. Suspect we'll be active in the trade market and will be dangling some big names out there for bait (Darvish?)... it's still early but if things don't turn in the next 2-3 weeks it's going to be a very long year. Congrats to the Astros for a great start... even though it does seem like deja' vu from a couple years ago.

I wonder when the Astros' injuries/DL will catch up to them? They had an awesome May. Except for the bruising Cleveland Indians gave 'em...

I think the Astros have just been erring on the cautious side because they can afford to right now. Morton will be out for a while but Keuchel and Musgrove only missed one game

Keuchel is 9-0 w a 1.67 ERA. Astros have won 8 in a row, their division lead is 12.5, and 13 over the rangers. They are 39-16.

McCullers goes tomorrow....

Well if Houston went 22-21 in their final 43 games they would finish the regular season at 95-67....

Houston is currently 5 games ahead of Boston for the top seed in the AL, so Boston would have to finish 28-15 or better to overtake Houston in that scenario. Not likely they will do that but definitely possible. Anyway you look at it, .500 the rest of the way isn't ideal but it's more than good enough.

Then it's just a matter of what you do in the playoffs

1st and goal

They haven't been playing .500 ball last couple of weeks.

They better find some pitching and their bats and quickly if they want to compete in the playoffs. 3-7 ball won't get you far in the playoffs.

I'm mad they didn't pick up some pitching. Not that much was available, but a couple of decent arms sure would've helped.

Tigers trade Justin Verlander to the Astros

Saggy Aggie
09-01-2017, 09:19 PM
I like the trade. Houston solidifies their rotation & they gave up none of their 5 "untouchable" prospects to do it, and none that were capable of helping houston this year, despite baseball america saying perez was their no. 3 prospect. In addition, Detroit will pay 8 mil per year of Verlander's salary.

Houston's rotation when McCullers comes back:

Keuchel
Verlander
McCullers
McHugh
Morton?
Fiers out?
Peacock back to bullpen?
