Looks Like Bob Shipley is back in Burnet for good, but retired as a Coach.

Ship was a good coach. Poor guy never could get over the hump, though, even with two REALLY good Burnet teams and that one Brownwood team that was supposed to be the greatest of all time.

In all fairness, though, Burnet's two state title losses were to two insanely talented teams in Everman (2002) and Gainesville (2003), and then Brownwood's loss in the 2010 semifinals was to a really good Carthage team.

Don't really know anything about Coach Shipley. What I do know, and what will always stick with me is that speech he gave his team after Carthage beat them in 2010. That 1 speech showed me what kind of man and leader he was.

He had a juggernaut in 2010. Little did we know then, he was coaching against arguably the best to ever do it at the HS level.

When I was at Texas A&M for a year, I once saw Stephen McGee at a bar called The Library. He was having a drink with Jorvorskie Lane talking about Burnet's 2003 team.

I enjoyed his short stop at Brownwood and wish him all the best.

I just wonder with that drive that all good/great coach's have how long it will be before he sits on the porch watching and says....:thinking:

Just heard Shipley is out of retirement and back at UT. ;)
