Meeting for the fourth year in a row but this time in the biggest battle yet as two of the three only undefeated 4AD2 teams left, both 13-0 in Navarro's second State Quarterfinal appearance ever: The winner will face either Giddings or the only other undefeated team in the division in West Orange-Stark the week after.

Cuero will face Navarro Friday December 2nd at 7:30 p.m. at San Antonio's Alamo stadium.

If there is one bias I have, is that I've always had a soft spot for Slot-T teams.

NO disrespect to my Gobbler friends, but I'm pulling for Navarro in this one. Cuero has shown that it can be vulnerable. Case in point, Sweeny, and I was there in person for that one.

What was the Cuero-Wharton score again?

:1popcorn:

That would be
Cuero. 34
Wharton 7

We were late getting to the game but I think Cuero took the opening KO and had the ball deep in our own territory. 1st play from scrimmage...::Gobbler QB goes back to pass and a Tiger DB batted the ball out of his hand or caused a fumble (I don't remember what I was told) and a Tiger defender picked up the ball and ran it in for a TD. Tigers kicked off to Cuero and Gobblers make a TD on 1st or 2nd play from scrimmage. When we got there, the score was 7-7.. very early in the game.

So the Sweeny comparison has been rebutted. If you allow Cuero or WOS to score 34 on you good luck matching it against either. I don't think rain will be an issue either. Good luck and hopefully everyone comes out healthily. I can guarantee a WOS contingent will be there and I would imagine Giddings as well.

I wouldn't say that. If one thing is certain, Wharton showed how inconsistent they could be. They blew out a very good Sinton team, but lost to Sweeny. They played a very powerful El Campo team very close, but lost big to Cuero.

It was like one poster said earlier in the season when they said something along the lines of "lets see which Wharton team shows up". Even their own fans knew how inconsistent they were.

WOS87
11-26-2016, 06:26 PM
Cuero has been inconsistent on offense but not defense or ability to win. They've allowed 90 points in 13 games which is right behind WOS. IMO it's Cuero until proven otherwise. R3 would be happy to meet either and I plan on being at the Semis no matter who is playing. Even if WOS isn't. Hopefully it's not as dismal and drizzly as last year.

As a Navarro fan, I agree 100%. But in fairness to the Panthers, if we're going to throw stats around, a couple of things. FWIW, Cuero's at 97 pts. allowed (not 90) and the Panthers are 3rd of the remaining 16 4A playoff teams at 157 pts. And, if SOS means anything, the Panthers have a 9.7 and the Gobblers have a 1.1. That's a big difference in SOS. That said, the Gobblers are the favorites having beaten us three years straight. Looking forward to an exciting game.

I have been surprised at how easily Cuero has won the last two seasons.

Navarro's studs are now (mostly) seniors, so if they don't beat Cuero this season...

And from what I saw Friday, Cuero has the size and speed to shut down a running game, so Navarro had better have that solid passing attack that one of their fans has told me is there, but they're just hiding it.

Will be a slobberknocker either way, and I'd be surprised to see many points.

Common Opponents (for what it's worth)

Navarro. 55. Gonzales. 11
Navarro. 35. Wimberley 14
Navarro. 42. Sweeney. 00
Navarro. 55. Wharton. 34

Cuero. 43. Gonzales. 00
Cuero. 21. Sweeney. 18
Cuero. 34. Wharton. 7
Cuero. 28. Wimberley. 7

What does this mean? Who the heck knows.
Those that know me from past seasons, know that I NEVER predict a Gobbler outcome and I won't begin now. I will say that this game has been anticipated for about 51 weeks and it is a good feeling to be playing DECEMBER football...Go Mean Green.

They've been developing it for 2 years. this year they think it can help, since they couldn't pull it out in the rain. I think they will test their run game for a quarter or 2, then try to put it to the air in their slot then spread it all the way out.

I brought it up after the Wimberley game that his numbers were behind what they were last season. Then y'all padded the numbers...

10-13 for 200+ and 3 TDs in a 45-3 win over Hondo and 17-24 for 200+ and 4 TDs in a 70-0 win over Bandera.

So congrats on being able to pass on Hondo and Bandera.

Cuero put up a solid fight against WOS in the playoffs last year (best game of anyone they played) but I think it was 90% that qb they had. Pretty sure he graduated though...

pancho villa, even WO-S fans don't expect to shut out either of those teams. Our defense will be stiff, as usual, but all we want is 1) to beat Giddings and 2) score at least one more point against the Region 4 winner, if we get the chance to play them. All our attention is on Giddings right now.

Yeah, Martinez is gone, but we were out executed on those running plays. Pulling the guard and the slot back while sending a man in motion the other way. It was a very effective play design. We stopped it at least half the time, but when we didn't, they made big gains.

Looks like rain tomorrow....

I sat in the rain last year and watched Hopkins run through Navarro. I don't know if I feel like sitting through the rain again this year. You still making the trip?

Yep, but I'm going to SA anyways this weekend. The only way I'm not going to the game is if it's raining cats and dogs

Lots of offense so far....

Taking the high road. Sometimes it's hard but the right thing to do. I'm struggling with one particular "high road" and now I know what I'm going to do. I will refrain myself. Good luck against WOS next week....

Nothing but praise for Cuero. They definitely had the team to beat us and challenge WOS. It was just a huge battle in the trenches and Cuero did what they do and Navarro did what we do. Those kind of games between two great teams often come down to the very end and something crazy and unexpected happens which happened last night in Navarro's favor. Game of inches. The Cuero kids played like the warriors they are last night and are one of the great 4A teams of 2016.

I dont think i got my point across, I was only saying that number 10 stepped up HUGE when it counted. He returned a kickoff for and TD, and he stopped Cueros possible game winning drive by securing his 8th int of the year and returning it 95 yards for a touchdown! His last TD put us up by 2 possessions, so its safe to say he won us the game. Thats not to say that it wasnt an all out war arcoss the board, every stand out playing for both teams seemed to have a shinning moment or two! It was a fantastic game!

Navarro was a lot more disciplined than Cuero. Cuero made too many mistakes and had too many penalties. I did enjoy watching the game and my hats off to both teams. Very impressive.

He got injured on a kick return in the 4th qtr. Left the field after the game on crutches.

Wait, I'm supposed to eat a crow enchilada because their QB went 4-11 for 49 yards?

Tejastrue
12-04-2016, 02:03 PM
Why would you eat crow? lol Now you know it's not always about the completion ratio. That pass on 4th down into the end zone was a thing of beauty. Besides, I don't think there is a rule /requirement to eat crow if your team won.
