Argyle Eagles(10-0) vs Lubbock Estacado Matadors(8-3) Area Round

I wouldn't exactly call Estacado an "area" team for Argyle, LOL.....but they do have great size and some very athletic players on their team. I haven't been able to discover the venue for this matchup yet.....probably somewhere halfway like Sweetwater if I was guessing. Looks like their RB Nathan#2 is their main player. I've seen the clips on him, and he's a real threat to score on any play. He also runs back the kickoffs and punts. The other Nathan#10 plays reciever and defensive corner......he's athetic too! They are both Srs.....so they are related somehow, but don't have the same build at all. The RB Nathan looks very strong and powerful with big legs. The QB Sims is another athletic type that can run or throw. He gets rid of the ball quickly and is very accurate with a strong arm. He's a threat to keep it and gash the defense on passing downs. He's a Jr. #11 Cobbs is listed as a QB also, but I saw him as their main receiver in the clips. He's a Sr and probably a very capable back-up to Sims if needed. They have a definite height advantage across the board, and their lines are big. This team reminds me of Paris this season.....big and athletic with some tall receivers. Argyle will have its hands full with this team......mark my words.

Looks like Estacado relies primarily on the run, but does have a very capable passing attack. They average about 325 yds/game......203 on the ground and 122 in the air. I fully expect them to have some speed with their skill players.......they looked very quick in the clips. The QB gets rid of the ball very quickly.....so that means those recievers are getting downfield quickly. And they are all over 6-1 in height. QB Sims is 6-3, and he has two wideouts also that height to throw to. The beef across both lines is big and heavy.....bigger than Argyle's.....I'm not joking. Not sure about the speed of the linebackers......but looks like some of the skill players on offense also play in the secondary on defense. They are tall back there in that secondary.

Seems like we've faced their Boys Basketball team(and baseball team) several times in the past. They always have some good athletes and lots of height. Estacado came in 2nd in District 1.....Levelland(8-3) won that District and will be playing Decatur in this round. I reckon they'll be bringing their "A" game to knock off the Argyle Eagles.......seems like that's the popular thing to do.....LOL. Ledford and Co. better be ready for an athletic hard-hitting group.......and one that can hit quick strikes like Argyle does.

They run the Pistol on offense.....so that accounts for the quick passes and their QB being a running threat also. He can scramble and throw on the run like Ledford with an accurate and strong arm. That will make this team harder to defend and dangerous. Counters and draws to Nathan could be cause for concern. He'll also get some pitches and shuttle passes. I think they'll try some misdirection at Argyle to catch the Eagles D out of position. Nathan only needs a small space to gain a big one......he's kind of like Williams for Argyle in that way. He has speed, moves, good vision, and strength to break tackles. He's a very good RB and very athletic.

According to MaxPreps.....this team has 17 interceptions on the season. And cornerback #7 D'Ante Thomas has 7 of them. He's a team captain and a Sr......also receiver on offense. Has 22 solo tackles also. He's another one with good height at 6-1. Seems like they all are at least 6-1.....wonder what kind of water they have out there, LOL.

The simple fact of the matter is that every week brings a different group of players that must be contended with.....and in these playoffs if your team is not ready to play your chances of being defeated are greatly increased. This does not even account for penalties, turnovers, questionable calls, and injuries that could happen to a key player anytime. There are just a multitude of factors at work and a multitude of reasons for every team in this tournament to not take any team or any game too lightly. That's a recipe for disaster and being relegated to roundball early......not a preferred option for the Eagles.

Argyle by plenty in this one. It'll probably be a shootout for a quarter or so, but then Argyle starts pulling away mid 2nd quarter. I just don't think Estacado will get enough stops to stay close in the second half.

Argyle by as many as they want, well maybe the weather (cold) will be a factor, but Eagles by 24.

Estacado will attempt to shorten this game with ball control on offense. Argyle will attempt to cause some 3 and outs to the Matadors to get the ball back to its offense. The Matadors defense will attempt to disrupt the Argyle offensive attack with lots of different coverage looks and blitzes. I think the Eagles on defense will play containment and control without too many blitzes.

Burkburnett Stadium in North Texas for the Area Round Playoff game of Argyle vs Estacado. This may well be the biggest line upfront the Eagles have faced this season with the fastest skill players they have seen all year. This will definitely be a very exciting football game and the Eagles will have their hands full in this one.

Looks like this year's Argyle Eagles have finally found their complete potential just in time before the biggest game of the year coming up next week against Abilene Wylie. I don't know if the coaching staff meant for it to go this way or not....probably just a coincidence....but none too early for sure. Argyle better celebrate this weekend, because next week's game will the toughest of the year.
