Orange County Teams

Fun fact for the week. Every UIL Football team in Orange County qualified for the playoffs this year for the first time EVER, at least going back 83 years when there was only one team in the county. LCM, OF, BC and WOS are all within 10 miles of each other and would be a 6A school if they combined but will never happen. Vidor won over Port Arthur Memorial to clinch a share of a district title for the first time since 1978.

Upshur County has 8 schools and all but one qualified.
4a Gilmer and Gladewater
3a Harmony, Ore City
2a Union Grove and Big Sandy
1a six man Union Hill
Only poor New Diana left out.

You forgot Vidor. They were co-district champs in 22-5A for the first time since 1978. I'm still amazed they pulled off that win against Pt. Arthur Memorial.

Gladewater hates when we say Upshur County. 98% of the town is in Gregg County but the school itself is in Upshur.

They're just not within 10 miles of the rest. Yes.. I LMAO after that win over PAM despite all of the negative history between WOS and Vidor. Back in the '80's being told to keep the bus windows up and having police escorts to Vidor still sticks with me.

Your initial remarks were about "every UIL football team in Orange County", but then you didn't list Vidor. Well, they're in Orange County. Vidor's co-district championship is really remarkable. They have been so bad for so long, and now this. BC winning an outright district championship is also a little eye-openning. When Vidor won their last district title in 1978, I remember passing by an old salvage yard on I-10 (which is still there) with a big sign on top that read, "Vidor goes to the Dome...PNG stays home." Lol. I have no love for Vidor, but I'm proud of our neighbor schools doing so well.

All 3 teams from DeWitt county made the playoffs. Cuero, Yoakum, and Yorktown.
