Al Dean, 84, from Al Dean & The All Stars, passed away this morning after fighting a bout with cancer
Al and his band were from Freer and played all over South Texas from the 1960s-80s. they had a No. 1 hit with the Cotton Eyed Joe with Jaliscio on the flip side. The recorded several albums and 45s during their playing
Met Al in the 70s at a dance in East Bernard. He was a class act with his band which included his wife. Heard them play in Sweet Home about 10 years ago. Prayers go out to his family, friends and fans
