Well Week One is over now, and as expected we saw some surprises, some injuries and some inclimate weather. But we really never know what kind of surprises we will see. El Campo just dismantled a 5A Gregory-Portland team, and Decatur scored 74 points!! La Grange's star RB Dobbins went down with an ankle sprain on his first carry of the season, and that game was soon cancelled because of lightning and rain. Argyle's premier starting QB Dane Ledford suffered a wrist injury on his throwing hand and sat out the entire 2nd half. China Spring dominated Lorena. What else happened folks???

La Vega trailed Fairfield for two and a half quarters before they woke up. Sloppy from what I heard.

That is very impressive especially 11 different receivers. Gilmer just continues to do what Gilmer always does and that is WIN. They will only get better too!!! LE looks to be the real deal this year too and like Gilmer will only get better. Congrates to both team for such a great football game.

Those are odd stats. You don't usually throw with that much success when your avg. rush is less than 2 yds. and you punt 6 times. Looks like L-E's 3 Int's were the difference.

The 3 interceptions were just before 1/2...we scored 7 early...LE is very good & came back with 20 unanswered points...In Gilmer, we prefer not going in with that kind of deficit...so, press QB & Line & looks what happens (we can do it in second half - see SC 2014 & ask WOS) but we do prefer taking care of business immediately.

Part of the game plan...not bowing to their wants...#88 D.End is Texas Commit & some good linemen...wanted for us to run...we decided on the Blitzreig...run enough o keep 'em honest & overwhelm 2ndary...I say he say it worked...had to prove the QB in his first Varsity start...we will find a weakness and smash 'em in the mouth. It looks like to me that shock & awe worked. Believe me, the Bux are far from conventional or one deminesional...conditioning was a major part too...those that play us know that when you play the Bux, you better find a weakness & take advantage quickly.

Maybe a little unconventional but seems to work:

I know all that. It's a great, great football tradition and history at Gilmer. Just forget my earlier comment. The stats just looked crazy. 173 plays is a ridiculous number of plays. And, it looks like each team had the ball about 17 times each which is also pretty crazy. And, I would be willing to bet no team has ever gotten more than 600 total yards offense and punted 6 times. And, both teams total over 1,000 Yds. with 10 punts. There's just not enough time for all that in 48 minutes.

I know the stats are odd, but there were a LOT of big plays, one to three play drives, etc. Both teams are explosive offensively. Getting defensive stops didn't happen often, and when they did it was usually a 3-and-out. A lot of times a penalty would let the offense keep the ball. It was kind of a weird game for sure.

About 3-1/2 hours... L-E came storming back in the 4th, and was one defensive stop away from getting the ball back. They actually had us stopped with about 2 minutes left, but a penalty let us keep the ball and run out the clock. The Buckeyes definitely took their foot off the pedal a little too early, in my opinion.

Probably only because it's a 'meaningless' first game of the season. Doubt the Buckeyes make a habit of getting light-footed on the accelerator.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it did appear that the Buckeyes became more conservative offensively toward the middle of the 4th. Some of the plays that had been working all night were abandoned.

Boerne beat Divine 55-12. Boerne's junior QB Brooks Klutts went 12 for 14 with 180 yards and 2 TD's. He also rushed for 46 yards. He throws a very catchable ball and makes good decisions. He will be fun to watch the next two years. Defense was solid also.

Just as I predicted, Wylie played suffocating defense and struggled on offense (understatement) before turning it on the last 3 drives. Will have to play A LOT better this week against a pretty tough 5A DI Lubbock Monterey squad that has speed everywhere and good size up front...

It is my understanding that Poppey not only set the Buckeye record on passing, it was also he State Record...A kid from (Waco ??) took it Friday by 3 yds...Turner says that is what records are for...Now for Center

The kid that beat him by 3 yards is from Robinson, not Waco.
