ARGYLE VS LOVEJOY: TOM LANDRY CLASSIC on Saturday @ 7 pm in Allen

Well.....I guess we'll get to see what kind of team Argyle has this season. Don't know what to expect from Lovejoy.....except they will be wanting to win this one very badly. I would suspect they will have a good offense. Argyle should have a pretty salty offense as well. I don't expect to see many fireworks in this game, however. Coach Rodgers will probably keep things close to the vest to start the boys out.

Some fans from Tyler were sitting behind me at the game the other night. They didn't know anything about the teams playing. They thought Gilmer was a larger school than Liberty-Eylau.

I cleared that up for them. I told them Liberty-Eylau was so large it was not even in our division. I added that they will be eliminated in the playoffs by Argyle, same as Gilmer used to be before Argyle grew into Liberty-Eylau's division.

The pregame of this game is going on now. Lovejoy will have a sophomore quarterback starting his first game......so they say. I look for a running game primarily from both sides, but the defense of Lovejoy will have to dominate against Argyle's offense. Lovejoy does have a very good team, but will have a sophomore quarterback starting is first game on offense.

By comparison......Dane Ledford has already committed verbally to Tulane, I believe. He is a seasoned qb for the Eagles offense and will very much play the main part of Argyle's offense this season. There are many young players starting their first game for Argyle, but they did get lots of playing time last season. I look for Coach Rodgers to mainly be concerned about positions and coaching the players to work as a unit on each side of the ball tonite. Of course there will be mistakes made, and the coaches from both sides will be there to coach their players how to improve their skills under duress.

Argyle will also have a completely new kicking game to work on this year with a new punter and place kicker. This is kind of novel for Argyle.....really, haha. They usually have some backups well-developed sitting in the wings waiting for the chance.

Kickoff coming up soon here at the Tom Landry Classic in Allen. School song for Lovejoy going on now. A very good athletic program for Lovejoy all around. These two communities are each both very similar, except that Lovejoy grew much bigger at a faster rate than Argyle.

Lovejoy plays aggressively, and the community supports their players in all sports very much like Argyle does. This should be a great hard-hitting game. The toss is done.

Ledford finds an open receiver downfield to Cale Nanny(OC's son) and he's gone. That was a long pass up the middle and he went the distance 85 yds for the score on first down. Nanny is one of the fastest players on the field. Extra point is good.

The distance is not the record.....the entire cumulation of the drive is.

2nd and ten now for Lovejoy. Hesslin picks up 4 yds now at midfield. Now another 3 yds. and Lovejoy takes a timeout with the clock running.

Some penalties in the first half by both teams, but not very many. So far the game has been played very cleanly by both teams on both sides of the ball.

Hesslin, rb for Lovejoy(#89) is a big back and tough to bring down. Argyle will have to gang tackle this guy in the 2nd half. It will be a game of attrition in the 2nd half.

Lovejoy has the makings for a good season and a very good team. Their sophomore qb Carson Collins looks to be a good one and their big RB Hesslin will be good all year. Then they have junior Bumper Pool at linebacker already being courted by the likes of teams in the SEC, including Alabama. But Argyle wins this one and controls the LOS for most of the game after a rough first quarter.

I was really surprised Argyle didn't bring a bigger crowd. Good luck on the rest of the season, and I agree that they are very similar communities.

Nice to hear Ledford's injury is not serious, and also that Argyle has a couple of quality backups at the qb position to take the reins if needed. You just assume a program like Argyle's will have some qb's in development, but until they get into a gametime situation at the varsity level you just don't really know how far along they really are. It helps to have a huge O-line upfront protecting your quarterbacks. :)
