Most of this damage was at the expense of QB Zach Smith of Grandview, now playing for Baylor. Our DE that year *loved* earholing QB's, whether they were handing off, passing, or standing around watching, as some of my old friends from the old 17-3A can probably attest too. This kid is now serving our country in the military.

Yeah I still think football is more exciting to watch on a grass field. It seems something is missing when the players lack green stains and mud on their pants and clods of turf in their facemasks by the second quarter. La Grange has a beautiful grass field always well watered and green thick turf every year. Our groundskeeper takes great pride in preparing for each game laying out the lines and markers. Another great traditional grass turf field is the Pasture of Pain in Bellville. The Leps love to play there in the rain to see who gets stomped into a mudhole at the 50 yard line. Now Smithville really isn't to be considered real grass, more like pea gravel with some dried out brown grass growing up from it. Sort of like my driveway on the ranch LOL. Artificial turf appeals to the OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) types though. Nice and neat, no lime marks or dirty laundry to deal with and never any filthy mud for heaven's sake. In my opinion the advent of artificial turf was the beginning of the wussification of football as all the new rules and such. Let the boys have some fun in the mud and keep football green. Cheers, Pudlugger

ps Get off of my lawn punks!:)

Port Isabel is the only stadium left in the larger classes (4A to 6A) of the RGV with a grass field. And I don't think it is changing anytime soon either. So if your teams miss playing on a grass field, come on down to Port Isabel! South Padre Island is also pretty dang nice this time of year. :)

I'm glad Decatur has stuck with their grass. There is no doubt Decatur can afford turf but there's nothing better than a nice natural grass surface.
