Being that I do play the defensive line and that I only am about 5'8" 180 pounds I know that there can be good things about having quickness and lack of size but I would like to hear everyone else's opinion on this topic.

speed is for show, size is for dough....lol

im not sure what this is supposed to mean in relation to football, but i just got it from golf...driving is for show, putting is for dough.

that might have some truth in football, heck, if so, i might have just made one of the best analogies of all time

We've discussed this topic on here many times, and my opinion has always been that with everything else equal (namely ability), speed will get you more yards every time. Size on the line is important, but lack of it can be compensated for with speed especially on defense. There is no adequate substitute for speed.

It's a tough question.
You need both.
Linemen usually need the added bulk and backs and receivers need the quickness.
You can have an off-season program that can add to your size or agility/speed, but either kids have it or they don't.
I have seen some good 3A defensive ends that were 5'11" and 175 to 185lbs. They were quick enough and tough enough to shed blocks and make plays. Then again, I have seen defensive linebackers that are 6'2" and 225lbs. who can't run under a 4.9 40yd. dash and be a tremendous player.
A lot has to be said for the "football instinct" in a kid, and his desire to perform at a consistently higher level than his competition. This can go for any sport.

Without Stamina they are both not very helpful...
