Currently sitting at 16-24, 7games back of the Mariners. Not good.,, but Houston called up prospects Colin Moran and Tony Kemp - 3b and CF respectively.

I suspect Bregman and Musgrove are not far behind. They started a series against the first place white sox yesterday and took game 1. I just so happen to be heading to Chicago this afternoon so I'm gonna catch a southsider game

I'd love to go to wrigley but they're out of town this week :/

Little different than last year, maybe ya'll will pull a Rangers and finish strong after a slow start.
Speaking of the Rangers--they are playing really well. Starting to look like the team a lot of us expected this year. Great starting pitching with Hamels/Darvish/Lewis, bullpen doing much better with Dyson closing, offense starting to clobber the ball. Should be a fun season...

Saggy Aggie

Springer is hitting almost .500 since he got switched to leadoff.

Altuve is being altuve and the bullpen has been great overall. We need keuchel and Correa and others to do what they're capable of and we'll be good to go

Pitching overall was atrocious to start the year. Bullpen has really been great the last couple weeks though. Rotation coming around somewhat especially since McCullers came back from injury.

Carlos Gomez has been awful hitting. So much so that he got demoted to AA. Carlos Correa is in the middle of a sophomore slump and Rasmus is not living up to his salary.

In April, Houston didn't seem to be playing that poorly but every game seemingly found a way to lose, be it errors, blown saves, etc. since the start of May Houston is 17-12 and they seem to have turned the corner.

What a great game tonite to watch in the AL West. Looks like both of these teams are gonna be battling for the Division title the rest of the season. Astros are a very good team with a very good pitching rotation......appears they are putting it together. Rangers have some outstanding younger players as well, and some older guys for leadership that is always a plus for any contender down the stretch. Let's hope both teams can remain relatively healthy thru the season. The Rangers will again go thru the dawg days of July and August while the Stros will be playing in air conditioned comfort. This is a definite disadvantage for the Rangers and their pitching staff, as well as everyday starters. The heat does wear on you playing in Arlington for so many days. The California teams don't play in the same heat until they come to Arlington. Neither does the Stros. It will be interesting to see if the heat this summer wears down the Rangers and what kind of substituting Bannister will do to give his regular guys some rest along the way. It's almost like trying to pace your team in a long race.....Wash failed in this endeavor and the team was spent right at the end of the season. I hope Bannister can keep this team healthy and active with many players coming off the bench to spell the main starters as the season progresses into the really hot months.

I've thought for two years now what Houston is lacking is a Beltre type of guy on that roster. They don't seem to have that veteran guy that can help these young kids. All that young talent is great, but they just don't seem to know how to take that next step.

I thought after last year they needed a closer and a real no. 4 in the lineup which meant a 1st or 3rd baseman veteran and maybe another good starter. The offseason was disappointing. They didn't much other than Pfister. Maybe they're shooting for 2017.

They went out and got the best closer they could get besides chapman (Giles), but turns out that Will Harris has been incredible and assumed that role.

I liked houstons rotation when they had Velasquez. They didn't go grab a vet 1b or 3b because the future at those positions are already both in advanced minor leagues and will be called up soon (reed and bregman).

Houston is a good team and they'll be fine if they can get it going together. They've got all the pieces, just need keuchel (and mchugh somewhat) to pitch like an ace and Correa to hit like he's capable and we'd be battling for first place right now.

Pitching woes and the dawg days of a hot summer are now here......the Rangers need the All-Star break to catch their breath. It will be a looong, hot run of games from here on out for the Rangers......as opposed to the rest of American League West. Now we will see how important it is for the Rangers to be out in front. I predict the Astros and the A's will close the gap very quickly.....perhaps even the Mariners. In the end, this Division race should be very close as we go into late August and early September......just sayin'. It would be tough WITH a reasonably healthy rotation.....but without that now.....the club will need to win games against its division opponents to keep pace.

I hope they bring up Bregman soon and sit Gomez. He is as close to an automatic out the 'Stros have on the entire team. He's been a total bust and they have to cut him or make a trade. Right now, with him, Marisnick, and Rasmus in the lineup together, they are hurting us. I have faith in Rasmus to turn it around, but right now he stinks. We can't have those three in the lineup at the same time. What are you waiting for, Lunhow? Send up Bregman.

It seems the Astros and Rangers have reversed roles this year... Astros started out white hot last year then cooled off and allowed Rangers to catch and pass them--exactly the opposite this year. I do believe if the Rangers can survive until mid August when Colby Lewis and Derrick Holland return they will be OK. Not impressed with Beltran but lucroy is a nice pickup and improves Texas significantly IMO.

Houston got rid of areas of excess while at high values and got some nice prospects in return.

I wouldn't categorize that as selling by any means but more of opening the door for Hoyt and Musgrove. Houston should improve the major league club and the lower levels of the farm with these 2 trades. I like them to be honest.

I wasn't in love with any of the guys on the trade block except lucroy. Houston is relying on what they have in the farm to carry them (Musgrove, Hoyt, Rogers, Gurriel, and hoping that bregman will find his swing).

That said, Houston wins on a Correa walkoff double against Feldman who was traded away from Houston earlier today. Weird.... Rangers with an off day so 5.5 GB

Texas has ranked near the bottom in HRs from the DH spot all season ... Beltran was a good pickup, and we didn't have to give up much for him. Dillon Tate I know was a touted prospect, but from what I've read, his value has gone down tremendously. We had to give up our top OF prospect for Lucroy, but I still like the deal, because we have lots of depth in the outfield, and now we could possibly resign Desmond.

The best part of this day that's being forgotten is the acquisition of Jeremy Jeffress in the Lucroy deal. Shores up a bullpen that has been taxed to death in the last month.

The Rangers got A LOT better and should have one of the best lineups in the AL from this point on. If Lucas Harrell can give us a few quality starts and help bridge the gap this month until Colby Lewis and Derek Holland come back to the rotation, it's going to be tough to catch the Rangers. Still a lot of baseball left to be played, with a big series coming up this weekend, but the Rangers did what they needed to do at the deadline to give themselves the best chance to win the division and make a legitimate run in the postseason.

Rangers looking stronger vs their opponents within the division, but I would not count out the Stros just yet. Another "hot streak" and they will be right there. I'm just amazed at how the Rangers have managed to stay at the top of the division standings all season long. And now finally looks like a few reinforcements are arriving right when they are most needed. Will be an interesting 2 months to watch.

It looks like it will come down to that last week of the season, for sure. We'll have a better picture of things after this huge three-game weekend series in Houston. But you can't forget about Seattle. They're going to make this a three-team race down the stretch, I think. They may also make it tough for non-division winners to nab a wild card slot.

Rangers fan here.

Certainly, the Astros have a bright future, but the kids they have are going to have to figure some things out. Now, you would think they will get better over time, but they have got to start working pitchers. Their offense is an all or nothing bunch. That type of talent will carry you pretty well over a season, but once you get in the post season, the game changes. That is what I see as their biggest deficiency.

No doubt about that. Still plenty of baseball to be played, so Houston still has a great shot of at least getting a wild card slot. I, for one, will be pulling for them, as I'd love to have both Texas teams in the postseason again. Although, I hope the Rangers are the ones hoisting a second consecutive AL West crown.

I think the scariest thing about the Astros is their youth. This season, and last season, will contribute to a lot of growth and maturity. That could mean some big things are on the horizon for next year. Of course, the Rangers still have some youth, too, with a healthy balance of veterans that have a few more years in the tank. There could be some fun division races in the future.

It really is crazy the way they've been able to win one-run games, or come-from-behind games. Those are - in most seasons - watermark characteristics of the World Series Champions. It always seems to be the team 'with the magic' that makes the run and gets the hardware.
