After two seasons as the head football coach and athletics director at Danbury High School, Jeff Whitehall is no longer part of the Panthers’ program.

Danbury ISD superintendent Greg Anderson confirmed Whitehall submitted his formal letter of resignation at the last school board meeting March 21 to accept an athletics director position with Venus ISD in the Fort Worth area.

When reached for comment, Whitehall declined to speak with The Facts on his decision, but said he begins his job with Venus ISD today.

Whitehall was 4-18 in two seasons at the helm of the Panther football program. Danbury missed the playoffs in both years of Whitehall’s tenure.

Anderson said he wasn’t taken completely by surprise by Whitehall’s decision, but said the loss still is a significant one for the school district.

“I hate to lose a good person. You hate to lose your family, if you will, from your district,” Anderson said. “But I also understand that it’s what happens in the life of football coaches and coaches in general. They get offers to go other places and they go there.”

Anderson said Whitehall did an excellent job managing the athletics programs at Danbury, and helped put a greater focus on all of the sports the school offers for boys and girls.

“For him, it was not just about football, it was about all of the different programs, both the boys and girls programs,” Anderson said. “He was big on strength and conditioning, put a great emphasis on that, and helped to evaluate our facilities and did some reconfiguring of where some of the equipment was to make it more accessible to both the boys and the girls. That was a highlight for us.”

As far as hiring a new AD and football coach, Anderson said the application portal for Whitehall’s replacement will remain open on the school district’s website until at least Tuesday, but could stay open longer depending on how quickly the hiring process moves along.

Anderson said the school district will begin evaluating the applications it has received Tuesday and hopes to start scheduling interviews in mid-April. He hopes to have a replacement hired sometime in May.

As of Thursday afternoon, Anderson said the school district has received 51 applications.

“It’s amazing, and we continue to get multiple applications every day,” Anderson said. “It’s going to be fun going through all the applications.”
