Celina is in for a rude awakening come Friday. They won't know what hit them.

Celina will know what hit them as well as what hit them, knows itself. WOS will likely know the same.
This game will come down to who executes better, and who's team rises up and plays their assignments best.

We are past the point in the season of surprise! May the best team win.

I think that is Celina!!!

I've gotta work til 5:00. Should be home by 5:10. The DVR is set (all games actually). The hardest thing for me will be NOT sneaking onto the Downlow for WOS/Celina updates while at work........I wanna see the game from kickoff.. Damn, I wish we were able to go... I think it's going to be a great game. 🏈💚

Yeah, the hard core smack talk has run it's course. Everyone is just ready to "get it on". I'll say this too, it seems like, every year we've been to the SC, either we or the team we've played were considered heavy favorites. This year it seems everyone believes this game is a toss up. Thats a credit to both teams for earning their respect this year. Last year, I believe part of the reason we punched Gilmer in the mouth in the first half was because our kids were so sick of hearing about how they couldn't play with Gilmer. They were motivated. This year we wont have that motivation, but we do have the sting of losing it in the second half...

WOS deserved better!

He just needs to settle down a little. I think the WOS speed spooked him a bit, and the game was just a bit too fast for him. If he can just calm down a bit, he's got some throws he can make, and that can soften up that front a bit and open some running lanes.

WOS is every bit as good and as fast as we thought they were. Celina's defense is playing well, will have to play even better in the 2nd half.

If Pingleton doesn't go down, this is a different game entirely.

I agreed at first, but WOS had a really good second quarter. I do agree that WOS is not quite as good as they were last year, but they're still good.

I definitely agree that Pingleton made your team go and his mastery of the QB position compared to our lack thereof was the difference in the game last week.

I don't know about that, but I definitely think it's a different looking game.

WOS is faster than Gilmer by a bit, in my opinion. But Gilmer had a better game plan of not trying to look downfield every single play. When WOS threw that away and looked shorter, they found their success. Be interesting to see how the 2nd half plays out.

WOS will not make the 2nd half mistakes they made last year. Celina's lines are going to have to grind on them some to open up some pass lanes. Don't abandon the run but if it you can't game some yardage Bobcats are in trouble.

Congrats to the West Orange-Stark Mustangs!!!

I heard the WOS coach interviewed on the radio earlier this year and he (perhaps prophetically) said that, regardless how good you are, you still have to have some luck fall your way to win a state championship. The corollary is you have to not have bad luck which is what happened to Celina with their QB. It's all part of the game, and WOS deserves to be State Champs. Hats off to Celina for an unbelievable season, also.

Just got back from the game and it was fun. Met a bunch of people from all over. Celina obviously started off with a bad loss in the QB injury and I hope he's okay. Who knows what might have happened had he been in the whole game. Maybe you would have won but who knows? Let's try to keep the bickering to a minimum please and look forward to a safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Years or any other holiday you choose to celebrate!

Also I saw that comment about me being upset about being #1 next year... I'm sure we'll schedule George Ranch or some team like that to get an early loss to get back under the radar. ;)

Congrats to the State Champion Mustangs!!! Loved watching them today!

Also congrats to Celina on an outstanding season! Hoping your QB makes a full recovery. I truly hurt for him today. Seeing him talking up the backup and still doing whatever he could for the team was impressive. I also loved seeing fhe other Celina players encouraging the backup qb. He was in a tough spot, but that kind of team comradery is wonderful to see.

I will read all of the posts tomorrow, but I'll just say this. I know there will be a ton of "if Pingleton doesn't get hurt" posts. And I pray he has a speedy recovery. My prayers go out to this young man.

But, this game was won in the trenches. Celina did not have the success controlling the LOS that they thought they would. WOS dominated the LOS which changed their game plan on offense to a conservative game plan to run the clock. We, our coaches and everyone in that stadium knew that they were not going to be able to move the ball on our run defense, consistently. The o-line didn't get hurt and neither did alexander or the defensive line. I believe the game would have been different and probably more higher scoring for both teams, but it would not change the fact that we controlled the LOS and that is what wins games at this level.

WOS success won in the trenches because when the qb went out the passing game went out with him. Not hard to 7 or 8 players in the box and play the run. Yes this game would have been very different if Pingleton the qb was able to play. WOS won and congrats on that, but yall beat a team without its best player at the hardest and most important position. Had he not got hurt and wos won I could except the lose, but if wos lost their qb yall would be up a creek also because he makes you r offense go.

It stings bro, but you can't change what happened. WOS stopped the run, 5 was a non-factor, and at the end of the day, it wasn't even close.

He got hurt on the 3rd or 4th play so how could you say they couldn't run. Actually he completed 1 pass for about 15 yards the other couple of plays were running plays that went for 15 or 20 yards. So how exactly could we not run? After the qb went out Celina had 0 passing game. Again not hard to stack the box for the run. Anyways this can be argued for a life time and the outcome won't change. What I am sick of hearing on the friday night app is wos people spewing junk. Lose your qb and see how well you do.

Simmer down now. There are people upset on both sides for various reasons. I know a lot of the Orange community didn't appreciate the whole riding in on yellow dog comments before and after the game like we're from the wrong side of the tracks or something, even from the broadcasters. You lost. Something bad happened. You can't change it. And yeah you'd probably hear the same complaining if it were the other way around but life happens. To be honest, I don't think there's anything to do but say congrats to WOS! You can go back and forth and say, 'What if?' until it drives you crazy. But it's all a pointless argument. It's one thing to make those kinds of observations during the game. But when it's over, it's over, and those arguments don't change the outcome. They really only tend to diminish what the other team accomplished. WOS is not a team that you can take away from, though, in my opinion.

WOS was/is such a dang good football team. They played hard. They played disciplined. They earned every bit of that state championship, and they did it with class! It stings to lose the title game. It really does. It always will. But you just can't take anything away from WOS, because they just played a complete football game for four quarters. They're a fun team to watch, and they'll be fun to watch next season. All I can say is good luck to Region III and IV teams next year, because the Mustangs will be a freaking load.

For the Celina kids and fans, man, what a great year! I'm so proud of this team and what they accomplished and the manner in which they accomplished it. They brought that tradition back for the orange and white. They made it fun to be a Bobcat again, too! There's nobody in town that is disappointed in you guys, I can promise you that. You played your tails off, and you played with a ton of heart. You made a ton of memories along the way, and you gave this town and these fans a ton of memories too. I know it hurts to be so close and come up just short. But it doesn't take away from you guys, and especially you seniors. You're more than football, and you mean more to the town than just football. So one game certainly doesn't define you. Your legacy will go way beyond this one game or any other one game, and it'll last well after the sting of this defeat has worn off. Again, I'm just so proud of this team. Haven't been this proud of a Celina team in a long, long time.

Once again, though, congrats to WOS! What a great team, a great season and a great state championship for that team and community! Enjoy it, because, as you know, it's not easy to get to the big dance, and once you're there, nothing is guaranteed. Outstanding season, Mustangs! Cya in 2016!

Dies Celina typically play a little on the dirty side?

I saw numerous times, when Celina tackled a WOS runner, the Celina player took his sweet time getting off the WOS player, then either squeezing the WOS player, or pushing him hard into the playing field. Unsportsmanlike Conduct should have been called several times on that mess.

If Pingleton doesn't get hurt I think Celina would be running away with it...

Celina might have scored, but the outcome would have been the same. Celina doesn't have an answer for the WOS Chain Gang Defense, and they sure don't have an answer for the WOS speed on offense. Out of the 75+ players they have on the sidelines, they ought to have one more person who could step in as QB. But, the Celina QB was running for his life everytime he took a snap. Celina had a decent defense, but they have just never seen the likes of what WOS brought to the field. It was also apparent to me, that Cornel saw they outclassed Celina, and purposely did not try to run up the score.

Also, at the end of the game, when WOS was brought down inches short of the 1st down, on the 1 yard line, there should have been a facemask penalty called on Celina, and another WOS TD on the board. Cornel played a smart game. and changed up the game plan, so that Celina never knew what to expect, rather than run the pass play or the screen play. Smart coach.

I was happy to see some of the Celina crowd clapping for WOS when they won the game. Of course, they may have been clapping for their team, but I hope it was for WOS.

I hate it that the Celina QB had his arm broke.

I can guarantee you it will be perfectly safe LOL. We've lost our final game playoff game every year from 1988-2014 until today and the WOS fans will moan and complain just like every team but we can handle a loss. I try to run a friendly show here. I sat on the Cuero side last week with 44INAROW and always root for you guys and most other teams, sometimes even when they play WOS (the WOS guys are gonna come after me now but eh... I have admin privs lol).

Also.... I was most definitely alive in 1986 and 1987. I was the WOS nerd of the year (valedictorian) 1987 but I Went to every game, saw the heartbreaking loss to '85 Houston Yates when we were actually winning with 6 minutes left, the huge upset to Paris in the '88 Finals, the losses to the juggernaut La Marque teams in the '90s and Ennis sneaking up on us in the '00 State Finals showing us what the Spread is for the first time. It's been 28 years and yeah.. a lot of the youngsters have never experienced this but most of the older guys are very humble and at the same time very happy. 28 years is a long time to wait after being so good and coming so close so many times. So forgive some of the youngsters who've never experienced it. I'll keep them in line (or at least try to lol). Celina hasn't ever had to wait this long ever.

Yes, if the Celoina QB had not got hurt, they might have scored a TD, but if he was in the game, I am sure Cornel would have run different plays, that would have had excellent results. Early on, when Celina was goingon how they were going to blow out WOS with their size, I said that Celina had not idea of the strength and conditioning of the WOS players, and how size alone has not been a factor against them. Never has for years, and they have always been small.............and fast................and talented.

I saw edgy play from both sides and probably shouldn't say this but I saw several instances where taunting should have been called on WOS but it wasn't. I played edgy in a loss way back when Moby Dick was a minnow. It wasn't smart to mouth off at me or my team when you were winning. ;) Not saying that was the case in this one, I wasn't live in person. Competitors hate losing and I'm sure some Celina players were stinging a little. They are all just kids and react as such.

Actually, after watching Cornel's game plan all year with this team, it looked to me that WOS was just trying to run the clock out in the 3rd quarter. All year long, WOS has gone to the air in screen passes and down field for 75% of the game. Last night, it looked like they keep it on the ground 75% of the time. But, as WOS learned last year, you better not ever let up.

All of the kids, including the back up QB that was in the game were seniors who had not seen much playing time. It wasn't as much us trying to score as it was trying to get those kids time in the ultimate game.

All of the kids, including the back up QB that was in the game were seniors who had not seen much playing time. It wasn't as much us trying to score as it was trying to get those kids time in the ultimate game.
Now that makes sense. Thanks! It has always been my belief every senior should get playing time in their last game. Some seniors never were starters but they practiced and played scout team everyday and worked as hard as everyone else just maybe not as gifted athletically. It would be a big slap in the face to not let them in the last game of their career even if just for a few snaps.

I know of one instance where a coach told a parent "we played the younger kids to get them some experience for next year, these seniors are through". I was shocked and lost all respect for that man when I heard him say that to them.

My mistake. I think it is called Richmond Foster, or just Foster. I got my teams mixed up.

You have a tendency to get mixed up XX Man!

What a great X Mas gift for WOS! They have been dominant all year and were again last night. I have always loved Celina and the tradition they have, but of course I was also happy for WOS and glad to see them win. Makes us Bellville folks feel a bit better about getting knocked out by them. Ya, sure, the game would have been different with the Celina QB in there, but like many have echoed, I believe the outcome would have been the same. WOS can score points, a lot of them. The WOS coach is smart, very smart. Obviously in the big game, he will be conservative if that is what it takes to win. I have a feeling they could have scored MANY more but decided to play smart, control the ball, and win a Texas High School Football State Championship trophy instead of putting on a show. I feel REALLY bad for the Celina QB, but thank goodness he is only a Junior and will get another crack at it. If they make it back to the state game, I have a pretty good feeling that they will be playing WOS again. Assuming any realignment puts them in the position to do so. I saw a post the WOS has 20 of 22 starters returning? YIKES, that is scary. Congrats again to WOS, one last day of high school football today!

I agree with this totally!. Yes, had the Celina QB stayed in, the game probably would have been more interesting, but the outcome would have been no different. I was, and still am disappointed at the way the broadcasters focused on Celina. Just like the screwball with the cowboy hat on FSW. They all tend to look down their nose at WOS, even with a 35 year football winning tradition.

In my humble opinion , Dallas was one of the major reasons for WOS success this year. Don,t think he has received enough credit in all of these posts. Very good athlete. WOS is a very talented, disciplined and well coached team.

There are a select number of teams like Celina that are always going to be talked about. They have won a lot of trophies. WOS has a great tradition of winning, and true football fans are aware of that. The talking heads on the high school level get paid mostly because they are good (or decent!) broadcasters, not because they are a wealth of knowledge when in comes to high school football in Texas. With Jack Dallas and most of the starters returning, WOS will be salty next year. They have a lot of athletes but there is no doubt Dallas is the leader who keeps things running smoothly. The WOS defense probably didn't get the recognition they deserve, they just flat out shut people down. Bellville doesn't score a ton of points, but we hit them with everything we had and we put up one field goal against them.

I didn't have a dog in the hunt. In fact my team has never played either WOS or Celina. BUT!!!
You cannot take the most important Celina player off the field on the first drive of the game!!!!!
WOS may have won the game anyway and is a worthy STATE CHAMPION, but I sure would have liked to see both at full strength. Here's hoping for a rematch next year!

Exactly. That is why that joke of a Purcell mad everyone so mad last year, running down Jack Dallas, saying he was not a very good athlete. Heck, he only led WOS to the Football and Baseball state finals last year. And then someone has the stupidity to say he is not a good athlete.

One thing that no one has said anything about, is the academic achievements of the WOS players. There are a lot of "A" students on the team. These boys don't just play hard, they play smart,

Again Congrats to WOS. You earned this and it is not tainted.

Orange Machine, If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we would all have a Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas to all.

I saw zero dirty play from Celina. Now of course I'm not considering little pushes(we pushed a couple too, lol) and jaw jacking dirty, just football. I thought they were classy and was a good game. I've see some folks kinda complain about flags/penalties etc but the refs let the kids play yesterday. Unless it was obvious, they kept the hanky in the pocket. Yeah, there might have been some bad spots etc but that's football. Congrats to Celina on a great season. I pray that Conner is ok!! Hopefully clean break as those normally are when that happens. Clean break = fast healing. Also, does he play baseball???? Also, we had the best crowd yesterday!!!! Both teams combined!!

Still people aren't understand what we mean. Yes, having Pingleton would have made a difference. But here is what would of happened. If Celina had even scored another TD or got within 2 TD's, WOS wouldn't have shut the play book in the beginning of 3rd Q. If Jack has the full plays ahead of him, this game would have been 46-10 or 50-17. WOS still wins

Conner Pingleton is a difference maker. I'm sure of it. That 1st drive was going right down WOS's throat up until the arm got broke. So I beg to differ but it's all ifs and buts and y'all won.

Take Jack Dallas out of the equation and I bet the outcome would have been different too had the roles reversed.

Both teams played their hearts out. Kids that play high school football work sooooo hard. And to do it for 16 weeks is almost too much to ask. At this point, both teams can be extremely proud. No real point in saying anything negative at all. Way to go Mustangs and Bobcats.

Congrats to Celina on a great season and a hard fought game under difficult circumstances. I do believe the game would have been very different without the injury for both offenses. I can't verify that the "playbook was shut," but I know our play calling was much less aggressive than it was in the previous 15 games. Honestly, I was disappointed about the injury because I knew that we would be hearing a lot of invalidating noise. Fortunately, most Celina fans have been realistic and gracious, which I know is incredibly tough. I felt it last year.

In the end, I agree with Purcell's contention that the WO-S defensive line won this game by controlling the line and pent rating more than the Bobcats had anticipated - not to take anything away from Jack.

Ok everyone.... Yes we know it changed the game when the QB went out but not the outcome... One thing that is being over looked in some of the post is that our D-line gave your O-line a ride! That would not have changed at all. Y'all saw how he did against Gilmer with all the pressure. We have no idea how much it would have changed. I can I have no doubt that the over outcome would not have changed. Both QB would have had a ton of pressure. With the back up y'all still completed some huge plays but holding calls were to blame. Also we shut down number 5. No credit is given there. He was suppose to run all over us remember. I just think it's sad to hear half of the Celina fans try to take away from the Mustangs. For y'all to say the outcome would have been different is just wrong. No one knows that! So give credit where it is due.

Also y'all want to say if the shoe was on the other foot. Yes, if jack would have went down it would change things. But saying that we are rich with back up's so I still believe regardless the Mustangs would have left with the Gold.

I would also like to give props to Jack Dallas, who came into last year as the third string quarterback as a sophomore. After the starter transferred to Westfield and the backup was kicked off the team for disciplinary reasons, Jack led his team to the state finals and went into halftime with a big lead. In the end, the better team, Gilmer, won. This year, he came in as the starter, but he was the only starter returning on offense.

Congrats to wos you beat a team that lost their best player at the most important position. So because a poster quoted a great coach with a "cuss word" your asking a mod to step in? Dude, we all realize that losing your QB was huge. We aren't saying it wasn't. We're saying that most likely, we still win. Y'all would maybe have more points but we would have too. We wouldn't have stopped passing in the 3rd Q. The beef is when we were beat by Gilmer last year(lost to the better team) we all congradulated them. Yeah, a few of us were upset about the block in the back on DT's punt return but also said we probably still would have lost. Maybe only by 3 instead of 10, but still lost. Your attitude is like a 10yr old that takes his ball and goes home because he doesn't like to hear or believe the truth. With all that said, I'm done with the subject. Celina played their butts off considering the circumstances and how about think about what the backup is feeling after being thrown to the wolves. Kid didn't get flustered. Tried as hard as he could. I for one am proud that we got the trophy but I'm also proud that we had the chance to play 2 storied programs in one season. And back to back. (Cuero and Celina). If your just a TXHS football fan in general, that's special right there. Anyway congrats Celina in a great game and who knows, if we're lucky enough to both make good runs next season, you might get that chance at a rematch. Congrats to the Celina Bobcats also. You had a great year. Losing QB1 hurt but you have to play 11..... next man up. Today wasn't your day but you played with heart and fought to the finish.

The game was won in my opinion on the line of scrimmage.... both sides. But what do I know.
And I end my posting on this thread quoting myself. I meant it then and I mean it now. Congrats WOS. Hopefully we see you again.

Thinking back on this year. WOS, Cuero, Celina and Gilmer. Who could have asked for any other more storied programs to be the final 4. Like a WOS poster said, if you are a high school football fan, it don't get any better than that except to have WOS and Celina as the final 2.

Hey Bobcat1, I watched the replay today and Coach Thompson was asking your coach about Pingleton right after the handshake. I couldn't hear him but it looked like he said the word "surgery" any updates? Mustang Nation is seriously concerned about him.

One more posts because I was asked. I heard from a very reliable source. Clean break no surgery needed. Best it could have been.

In my humble opinion , Dallas was one of the major reasons for WOS success this year. Don,t think he has received enough credit in all of these posts. Very good athlete. WOS is a very talented, disciplined and well coached team.
I agree, Jack makes the wheel turn.

I'm just reading all this and ugh!!! 44INAROW has been reprimanded for cussing on the forum and she has been given her very own imaginatively special punishment! Let it all out orange machine. It's fine. We know how it feels to lose a bit more than you... We've lost the last 3 state finals we were in. We also know something about game/season changing events... i.e. Hurricanes Rita and Ike and the unfortunate death of one of our players on the field not too long ago! When WOS uses the phrase 112% it refers to him. #12. So keep going. It's a free country, there is a first amendment but that amendment entails people being able to respond to you just as freely so you can say what you want. If Rangermom or LHPanthermom were here they'd prolly be a bit more draconian but we've been there, it hurts and I know how it feels. Hope you and yours have a blessed Christmas!

Is cussing allowed moderator?? If you don't like what I'm posting don't read it. I'm entitled to my opinion just like you and everybody here so how about you back off!!! I can talk about how bad it is Celina lost their qb and how I think things would have been different.
I think some of you Celina folk need to put this guy on suicide watch...

And that's your opinion and you absolutely know the playbook was shut and Celina would not have scored but 10-17 points. And here I thought Karnac was retired when Johnny Carson did.

Everyone knows that your QB would have made a difference. What I am saying is that the outcome would not have changed, meaning WOS would still have won. If Dallas would have been out of the game, WOS has a jam up back up QB in Senior Peyton Robertson.

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts---we would all have a Merry Christmas. Look, I understand that some believe the game would have been different if the Celina QB had not been injured, However, that is part of the game of football. It is how your team responds in adversity that makes you great. Navasota lost very valuable parts of their offense in both State Championship years and found a way to keep winning. This year, the losses to injuries caught up with us. We were not the same team by playoff time as we were to start the season. But, we understood that those losses were part of the game and our luck was not as good as some other years. Celina will be back next year to compete for the SC as will WOS. Hopefully both will come back healthy and maybe make it back for a rematch.

Turned out surgery WAS NOT necessary. He was taken to A&M where a family member is an Ortho Dr.

He'll be fine... young bones!

You guys have been great, enjoy your win.

Celina can accept the loss with dignity (most of us, anyway)!

Well, thats awesome news! I've been praying for that young man. Maybe he'll get another shot at it next year! My nephew is a Jr at Celina, hoping they have another great year in his senior year.

This is going to be an odd request but Im mad at myself for not doing it. Any of you Celina peeps have a pic of our crowd from your side? Would be greatly appreciated if someone could post one. I havent seen a good pic yet and know we had many people there.

What has happened to cause WOS to drop in enrollment over the years?

The Ship Yards closed, the Navy Base closed, and Industry has cut back on their workers. It is a job thing. Jobs cut back, and people left the area.

You people saying the game wouldn't have changed if Celina's qb was in there and that wos dline whooped Celina's oline fell to remember Celina had "NO" passing game when the qb got hurt. Pingleton would have been able to complete passes and keep the defense guessing. Instead wos loaded the box to stop the run. I don't see how yall don't get that? Congrats to wos you beat a team that lost their best player at the most important position. You are state Champs but Celina lost 50% of their offense when the qb got hurt and yes if Jack Dallas got hurt in the 1st qt instead of Celina's then Celina is state champs.

Totally disagree. WOS defense shut your offensive line down, That does not change. and if Dallas got hurt, a very talented and capable Robertson steps in and does the same thing that Dallas did.

Dude, you are as long winded as OM... Maybe you guys should start your own forum so yall can go back and forth with one another... I think that whole topic has been beat up enough, why don't we move on?

WOS was 18 weeks getting to the SC. They worked their rear ends off to get here, and you want me to just forget it in 2 days? We went back and forth with Ennis for 2 years, after they beat us, with some lasting friendships established. If you don't care for what I post, just don't read or respond.

There are also 4 Highschools in the greater Orange area. An area of only around 40K people. West Orange-Stark(4AD2) Orangefield(4AD2) Little Cypress-Mauriceville(4AD1) and Bridge City(4AD1). WOS and LCM are actually in the city of Orange. Orangefield is outside the city limits but still Orange. Bridge City is its own city but you can see their stadium lights from the top of WOS stadium on a Friday night. All are within a few miles of each other. The only "growing" school is Orangefield because that is really the only area that has land available to build.

Actually, there is land to build housing in the WO district. Most are not aware of this, but heading north on FM1130, from FM1078, almost to Wilkinson Cemetery Rd, all the land on the left is WOC-CISD. It takes a left (west) off of 1130, in the first curve past the Country Corner store, and cuts across to Hwy 62, about 2 miles north of 1078. And all the land from there south, to about the old Rice Dryer is in WO district. But, what is the use of building houses, if there is no one to buy them?

There were also two hurricanes that devastated the city of Orange as it is anywhere from 8 to 30 feet above sea level depending on where you are. Sabine Lake is essentially the Gulf of Mexico and it borders Port Arthur, Bridge City and from there it's only two miles up the Sabine river to Orange/West Orange. Port Arthur has a seawall/levee... Bridge City and Orange don't. The eye of Rita went directly over Orange and the 20 foot storm surge of Ike covered Bridge City and Orange in 10-20 feet of water. My sister and aunt both had MAJOR damage to their homes and had to completely rebuild and a lot of the town lost their homes completely. The WOS coaches actually took in some of the players because they had no where to live during those times if I recall. There are still vacant lots inside of downtown Orange from homes that had to be demolished and were never rebuilt. The shipyard was a big deal and the rest of the story is everyone leaving town to move out to the country. WOS used to be twice the size of LCM but the north side of Orange has had some major housing development pop up in the last 30 years because of less taxes and other reasons I won't talk about.
