24 to 21 half
gilmer
If celina stops the turnovers they are kicking Gilmers butt.
Agreed. Boyd is a monster, though, and I imagine we'll see a healthy dose of him in the second half.
And apart from the pick-6, Spears has played pretty well. But if we can keep the pressure on him, we can continue to force some miscues.

Good game Celina, congratulations! The pick sixes proved to be a crucial piece of the puzzle. The only reason I was rooting for anyone in this game (Celina) was b/c I played ball with a QB legend from Celina. I can't remember how many state rings he has, but when he was there, they were GOOD. My prediction is that y'all will be playing WOS for the state championship but will know for sure tomorrow evening! My best piece of advice- Hang on tight! WOS is the real deal. If Cuero pulls it off, I don't know much about them but know they have come on strong and are playing great football right now. Have a good week of practice. This is the last week of practice EVER for the Seniors, make it count and don't hold back...

I think the Buckeyes coaching staff will have Gilmer ready for this Celina attack......at least they THINK they will. And I fully expect the score to be very tight at halftime. But as the game wears on into the second half, I think you will see Celina begin to exert some of its offensive dominance in this game. They will keep coming at Gilmer and eventually I believe Celina will get a comfortable lead and keep it. If Gilmer gets the lead, I think Celina has the offense to come back and score. Not sure about Gilmer being able to do the same thing. Both teams have very stout defenses, but I think Celina's offense is the difference-maker in tonite's game. Gilmer will have to try a trick play or two to try and get the upper hand.....and that might just work. But in the end, I think this season's Celina Bobcats will prove very worthy of their ranking.

Celina's Defense must have played 30 minutes! All the turnovers combined with quick hit scoring drives!
Wow! I know Gilmer had us right where they wanted us, down 12 with about 3 minutes to go, and they
almost pulled off another unbelievable, improbable, ridiculous victory. Hats off to their young men
for believing in what got them to Mesquite in the first place!!!
Go Bobcats!

Just walked in the door and the 2 hour drive there and back, the $8 ticket was well worth. My oh my what a football game. Tremendous athletes for both teams. Shame anyone had to lose. Many Many awesome plays but the play of the night was #25 Austin Geiger tipping a pass at the line of scrimmage and Shane Gerths (SP) taking it to the house for the nail in the coffin.
Hats off to the Buckeyes. They never quit right up to the last kneel down. That Boyd kid from Gilmore is a straight running stud.
Bobcats overcame 5 turnovers and escaped with a victory. I said it would come down to a war of wills and Conner Pingleton and Shane Gerths imposed their will in the end. Jarren Alexander ran hard but what impressed me most was the block he threw in the first half that sprang Connor Pingelton for a long TD run around the right side. Ike Anwan and the X Man plugged up the middle all night and I saw Ike Anwan blow a screen play up right quick in the 4th Quarter.
All I can say is if you missed this game you may have missed the game of the 2015 Season. I might be early in saying this but either of these 2 teams could have won State. Glad Celina has the chance for number 9!

And I just love to watch #25 play! What a kid he is! I've said it before, but the way he plays, and the amount of heart he has, he reminds me of little ol' Breck Holman from the 2007 title team. Austin is a great embodiment of this Celina team - selfless, full of heart, drive and discipline.

Now that I've got a good solid nights rest under my belt :vrycnfsd:...
Celina's Senior leaders were the difference last night!
There were contributions all over the field from the underclassmen but the Class of 2016 led the way.
Down 14-0 about 5 minutes into the first quarter, a team with less heart could have easily said 'Here
we go again'! If you were there last year at SMU, you couldn't help but have that cross your mind and
if you can't admit that, well, that's a you issue!
I'm sure it crossed some minds on the sidelines, too, but the young men in their 'All Whites' weren't going to let
it happen without a fight! I am so proud of this group, led by this awesome
senior class, who have now vanquished all 3 losses from last season!
We, The Celina Bobcats, are headed to Houston, BABY, so since we've gotta drive all the way down there...
We may as well win the dang thing! :inlove:

Very impressed with this group of young men, but oh man when the cramps started rolling in and stopping the clock without Gilmer having to burn a timeout my zantac intake increased two folds. I just kept turning towards the scoreboard and I swear there were times I thought no time had run off. Gilmer's QB is a player and as soon as that ball is set they are at the line ready to run another play. I thought a few times if they had snapped the ball quicker instead of waiting at the line of scrimmage they could have emptied our gas tank. Hopefully we have no big injuries to deal with and next week no matter who we play it will be another big challenge for this group of young men. Congratulations Bobcats

As I told Bobblehead Bobby on my way home last night......this one stings a little. The woulda, shoulda, coulda's will haunt this team for a while. With that said......many congrats to the Bobcats for a hard fought and well deserved victory. In the end, whether we like what happened or not, you guys made more plays in critical times than we did. Congratulations and go get #9!!!!
On on side note, I appreciate the banter back and forth all week. I know on some sites it got out of hand, but here it was mutual respect for each program from both sides before and so far after the game. For the outsiders that came just to watch, they got more than there moneys worth. It was a great Friday night in Texas. We never quit until the last snap, we just came up a little short.

Congrats to both teams on a well-played hard-fought semifinal that was a thrill for your fans to see. Unfortunately, one team had to be eliminated.....but the question was not settled until very late. To the Bobcats of Celina.....we'll see you in Houston and will be pulling for you to get #9. You certainly have the team this season to win it all, and have proven your worthiness all season long. One more game for all the marbles next week! Celina has proven in the past to roll the marbles pretty darn good, hahaha.

Man, I had trouble falling asleep last night, woke up this morning and just felt good all over again! So proud of these Celina kids and the selfless way they just keep chugging along. Hard to believe they were all in elementary school the last time we played for a title. So excited to see them play next Friday, I know they'll be ready for whoever it is that lines up on the other side.
As far as the game last night, it went about like I expected in some ways, and not like I expected in other ways. Maybe two snaps before Celina's first pick-6, my dad, who was at the game, texted me that things were not looking great. But I told him, all Celina has to do is keep pressure on Spears, we'll get a turnover eventually, and BOOM, maybe 30 seconds later we get that pick-6. I expected us to be able to score a few turnovers. I DID NOT expect us to turn the ball over 5 times and still come away with the win. That's unheard of.
I thought we'd throw the ball a little more, but honestly, we didn't need to. We took whatever we wanted on the ground, and our offensive line played one of their best games of the season. Boyd and Olivares were almost non-factors on the defensive side of the ball. Being able to pound the rock really paid dividends later in the game, too. A few of Celina's turnovers were just bonehead mistakes. One of Pingleton's INTs came just because he made his read a split second too late. He had a guy wide open on the seam and just under threw it a bit, and the Gilmer DB made a nice leaping grab. The other INT though was just a flat out heck of a play by Gilmer's #7, I believe. That kid just went up with our big 6-6 TE and took the ball away on what was a great throw. Nothing you could do on that but tip your hat to the kid, because, like I said, it was an unbelievable defensive effort.
Gilmer's DBs played well all night, though, I thought. They really made our receivers earn everything, and it forced Pingleton to use his legs a ton. Which, the kid has got some wheels. He pulled away from that vaunted east Texas speed a few times. But really, anytime Pingleton or Alexander wanted the edge last night, they had it.
Now, on the other side of the ball, I thought our defense played tremendous, especially after that first quarter. I know you don't look at 44 points and think your defense did a great job, but ours really did. But for Gilmer's impeccably executed screen game, the Buckeyes struggled, offensively. Boyd got his yards, obviously, and that kid is a freak. But we consistently had the Buckeyes in 3rd down situations, only to give up a chunk of yardage on a little jailbreak or slip screen.
That said, I've got to give Spears credit, man. That kid played, probably, his best game of the season last night. He executed the game plan pretty dang well, I thought. He was efficient, didn't force a ton - except for the first pick-6 - and I really thought he gave the Buckeyes a chance to win a game that, in all honesty, they shouldn't have been in by the fourth quarter. The last pick-6 was just a great defensive play. There was nothing Spears could have done, that I saw. And you've just got to give the kid kudos for being a freaking tough gamer. I mean, he just would not quit. And you could see his never-say-die attitude reflected in the rest of the team. Him and Boyd, I thought, really personified that mentality and carried the Buckeyes.
I know the score is a barnburner, but there were times when both defenses just flexed their muscles. I thought it was a really good defensive game on both sides, which sounds crazy. I've said it a ton, and I know this Gilmer team wasn't the 2014 team, but they are dang good. Just a few breaks the other way, and the Buckeyes are playing for back-to-back titles. But, a few more breaks Celina's way, and the Bobcats win that game by three or more scores. That's just how that odd-shaped pigskin bounces sometimes.
Incredibly hard-fought game by both sides, though. You hate to see either one of those teams lose, because you know how hard they were fighting, and you know the effort those kids were giving out there on the field.
Anyway, congrats on a great season, Gilmer faithful, you have nothing to hold your heads about, and I know you guys are super proud of your group of kids, as well you should be. I'm sure the Buckeyes will be back and in the mix next season as well, because they bring back a ton of talent for 2016. Hopefully we can make this an annual postseason rivalry!
And, one more time, just for good measure:
HOW 'BOUT THEM BOBCATS?!?! It's time for 9 baby!

Several photographers decided to violate Spears' privacy after the game while he was crying like a baby and being consoled by Luke Turner.
It reminded me of the scene after last season's Argyle-Navasota game when FSSW showed Cooper Rodgers similarly breaking down in tears and being consoled by his dad, the head coach.
Those photos and video clips will haunt both individuals until the day they die. DAMNED NEWS MEDIA! LOL

I know it stinks, and you may not like/agree with it, but the truth is they didn't violate Spears's privacy. It may seem that way from the viewpoint of a non-media person, and I completely understand what you're saying. I know it hurts. You have to understand the media member's side, though. It's those photographer's and writer's job to capture the game, capture the moment and ALL of the emotion and drama surrounding it. That means they have to get the elation of the Bobcats, as well as the heartbreak of the Buckeyes.
I've had to do several stories about heartbreaking losses. I HATE doing them. I absolutely hate it. It breaks my heart to see seniors crying and consoling one another over a game, because you know how hard they've worked. But it's my job, and I have to do my job well. Sometimes the stories hurt, but they still have to be told, and the moment still has to be captured.
They're not trying to hurt Spears, I can assure you. And believe me, this will not haunt him until the day he dies. If it does, his life has gone terribly wrong for a lot of other reasons that have nothing to do with a high school football game.
I know it's easy and fun to hate the media, but few that do so really understand what they're talking about.

And as far as Spears, goes, I don't care what people have said about him all year long, that kid is a freaking gamer. He's tough as can be, and he gave the Buckeyes a great chance to win last night. If there's anybody from Gilmer or anywhere else that doesn't respect that kid and what he was able to accomplish this season, then they don't know what they heck they're talking about. That was hilarious, poisoned10. :fnypost:
Seriously, though, I wouldn't want to be the QB. When I was a chubby little 10-year-old in my first year of flag football, I tried out for QB. Our coach, a Buckeye running back named Randy McDaniel who later played for the University of Houston, shook his head "no" and switched me to guard. He knew I had no business playing QB. I have always been grateful for his "tough love" that day. Until that transformative point of my childhood, I would always tell people who asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up that I was going to be the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys.
Yes, much respect to Spears. He did as much as he could with what God gave him. And, frankly, there was probably no other answer at QB for the Buckeyes for this season. He was the guy, for better or worse. Pingleton, though, was light years more talented than their QB from last year, who actually got a D1 scholarship to UNC. People ought to be lined up to offer Conner Pingleton.

By the way, hats off to Celina on a tough win. You guys have a great team. Even though the stat/scores may not show it, to me, it felt like we got our butts kicked all over the field. But that just shows how tough this Gilmer team is. As many have said, they fought to the very last whistle. They gave it all they had and left it all on the field. I'm EXTREMELY proud of this team and all that they have accomplished. They had so many people, even from within Gilmer, tell them just how bad they were and that some people didn't need to be in the positions they were in. They had to deal with people shouting from the stands that the QB is garbage and the coach needs to do this and do that. But they just kept trucking and continued to roll off win after win. I'm proud to be a Buckeye!
Good luck next week Celina. Go get #9!

People around here expect to have a team like 2014 every year. Or expect them to be better. If we aren't blowing out every team we play then we are terrible and the coaches are doing something wrong. I've never heard so much complaining about a team that ultimately finished 14-1.

That is the curse of becoming a perennial powerhouse! For the last few years, Celina's coaching staff has been piled on at the end
of the year because they couldn't take the team to a State Game...couldn't possibly be that the talent might not be as good, or the competition
was simply better... State becomes the expectation! This years Celina team is in the State Game! Same coaching leadership, who wasn't afraid

Congratulations to the Bobcats on a very well played game. Celina overcame their mistakes and was able to go the distance on the scoreboard. Gilmer did NOT make too many mistakes as many might want to tell you. The Buckeyes made the same mistakes and about the same number as they have all year. The difference last night is that we played a superior team that did not let us off the hook for making those mistakes. All year, Gilmer has overcome what seemed like insurmountable numbers of miscues, penalties (for dumb stuff) and turnovers. Celina flipped the script on us last night and pulled out the win in Buckeye fashion. Hope to see you take it to WOS next week and hope to see Celina and Gilmer meet up again in another great game.
EDIT: Woops, has WOS won their game yet? Maybe I should have said Cuero?

Congratulations to Celina. All I can do is tip my hat to y'all, and wish y'all luck in the finals. Movethechain said what I was thinking. We definitely had our chances, but just came up short. It's not often you can turn the ball over 5 times and win a game at this stage of the playoffs. Celina certainly flipped the script on us, and did just that. Turnovers have plagued us all season, but we still had a chance until the last pick-six. This game was going down to who had the ball last up until that point.
Now, GO GET NUMBER 9!!
I'm still as proud of this Buckeye team as I have been of any other team in the past. They overcame so much to get to this point, and just came up short. It was a fun ride for sure. They Buckeyes went down like TRUE CHAMPIONS do, fighting!

I will tell you this...
Even after the Pick 6 and the jubilation on our side, I was telling everyone around me that Gilmer still thinks they are going to win this game, and they DID think that! Testament to your team!

The "never say die" attitude is coached into them from seventh grade on. It began with Traylor and is no different under Turner (who was Traylor's mentor in J'ville).
Turner has told me that football is just a microcosm of life. Adversity strikes. Okay. What do you do now? You can either give up or fight on. The program (as all good programs do; I'm sure Celina teaches the same thing) says "fight on" and "just play the next play."

I keep running the game back and forth in my head. The pick 6's were big, no doubt, but the one thing that sticks out is the taunting call when we made a huge catch at midfield with about 2 minutes left. Don't know what he said, but he said something. Call was just.......unfortunately for Gilmer it may have been the play that ultimately ended our season.

No, Zod didn't throw the pick sixes. That was the other "Z' guy. Zod had a helluva game. Zod caught everything thrown his way the other night.
My initial reaction to that was that the officials had decided that Celina deserved to win the game (and, in fact, they did) and they were going to do all they could to prevent another patented Miracle Comeback™ by the Buckeyes.
I'll admit that I am incredibly biased in favor of Zod because he is a descendant of a black woman named Finch who helped raise me. May Grace Finch R.I.P. Zod REALLY IS 'FAMILY' to me.

That was big. The other really unfortunate but HUGE miscue was the absolutely BEAUTIFUL pass Spears threw to one of the receivers - can't remember which one - there at the end. The receiver beat his defender, who bit on it being a short route to the side, and he had two or three steps on him. Spears laid it in nicely in stride, and the receiver dropped it. Don't think we would've caught him because the pass was so good, and that would've put the Buckeyes up and given that BlackFlag defense a chance to win the game.
If that game was played 100 times, who knows what the results would be.

That dropped pass certainly didn't help things. That receiver is going to be a good one for the next two years, and I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing the name LaMarcus Morton a bunch. He had several drops this year, but I'll guarantee he'll get that fixed on the offseason, and will be ready to redeem himself next year.

Well I wasn't going to throw names around. I was just pointing out that this was a big play in the game. We had 2 minutes and 1 timeout and I believe we had them on their heels. Kid made a great catch and then a bad decision. The loss isn't on him and I wasn't intending it to be. I was just saying it was a bad penalty at a crucial time. I would have loved to have seen how it played out if we hadn't of gotten it..........but we did and that's that. We had a great season and I'm proud of all of them.

Ive watched the film 3 times now and that last td pass the Boyd caught over the middle should have also been picked off. Celina mlb Shane Gerths had the ball go right between his hands and the ball tipped. You can see the spiral go into a duck wobble after hitting his hands. Just saying it could have been a little worse for the Bux, you could see Gerths on film look at his hands and clap them like crap I missed the pick.

There wasn't much doubt it was tipped when Demarco caught it. Looked like it was a knuckle ball after Celina kid touched it. Am I wrong, or did Demarco have 5 TD's??

He had 5 TDs. And yeah, when I saw it live and watching film, you could/can see DeMarco adjust to catch that knuckler. He's a heck of an athlete, really, really great talent. He almost single-handedly kept the Buckeyes in it and almost willed them to a win.

This thing about Celina having five turnovers needs some perspective. Not a single one of those turnovers was suffered in Celina's own territory whereas two out of Gilmer's three resulted in instantaneous touchdowns for the Bobcats.
This game along with the games with Argyle we've lost also have a common factor. All were played in windy conditions. Celina gained a huge advantage IMO when we all discovered AT&T Stadium was booked last weekend and we had to play outdoors.
You would be amazed at how little the wind blows here compared even to Mesquite, much less points further west such as Celina. These teams behind the Pine Curtain are accustomed to seeing Old Glory hang limp from the flagpole behind the end zone more often than not during games, especially early in the season. Not an excuse, just an observation. I know our broadcasters were obsessed with how windy it was, having watched/listened to some of the archive.

I said the whole game that the wind was kicking our arse. Celina did a much better job of using it to their advantage than we did.
On a side note........both teams punters sucked. That was a miserable show of trying to kick on both sides.

I am sure a big part of that is the fact that neither of us really prefer to punt! When you dominate teams it's just not necessary. That said I wish we
had a punter on the roster, just in case we really need one this time of year!

It didn't feel windy where I was sitting but then again I am accustomed to wind so I guess that proves your point about Gilmer not being used to wind.

Honestly wish I could. My job is pretty generous when it comes to our games. Every year at Christmas we shut down for two weeks and on our last day of production we have a big Christmas party for the entire factory. Last year I skipped it because I had a game to go to.......but since we lost, and I am the Plant Manager, it is probably best that I stay for the festivities. I'll be home in time to catch it on TV though. Good luck to you guys. I think it's gonna be a heck of a game.
