Most of these programs are still winning playoff games each year. Argyle hasn't been in business long enough yet, but I betcha they're getting close.

Just looking at it and off the top of my head I think Wimberley is the youngest school up there (1988) with WOS right behind (1977).

Good information. I can't believe Breckenridge isn't on this list, with the teams they had in the 50's and 60's.

WOS87
11-17-2015, 05:07 PM
Breckenridge would be but they aren't 4A unless I had a huge brain fart. They have 49 wins I'm pretty sure. Liberty Hill is currently at 33, the same as Argyle with a tie that they advanced on.

Oh shoot, you're right, I forgot they dropped down a classification the last realignment. Sorry. Don't want to give you anymore work to do, but it would be interesting to see a list of all classifications merged together.

Hey, Sweetwater won the 1985 State Championship due to a tiebreaker. We tied Austin Westlake 21-21 and advanced on penetrations by a count of 5-3.
Went on to beat Tomball 17-7 in the SC game.

I know Refugio is at the top with 105 then Southlake Carroll at 101 and Katy at 100. Mart would have hit 100 had they not been upset by Tolar so they are next at 99. When I get home I can post the whole list. I need to figure out how to count in ties. Should a tie where a team advanced count as a win and vice-versa?

And WOS advanced to play Houston Yates the same year on a tiebreaker against Baytown Sterling. We had Yates tied 6-6 in the mid-4th Quarter leading in penetrations. Came 5 minutes away from advancing.

I would say so because while you didnt beat them by final score you did beat them in the first tiebreaker and a team advanced. How does the UIL treat it?

The UIL counts a tie as a tie. There has only been one state championship that was a tie where only one school was declared the champ and that was Corsicana over Masonic Home Orphans in 1932 only because both coaches agreed to the rules ahead of time. So did Permian and Beaumont French both win in the 1984 title game or did they tie?

Thanks :). Poor Hondo. They lost in the 1956 3A State Finals. That's the closest they came. Port Isabel, Jasper, Bellville and Sinton are also bridesmaids on that list.

That would be something.....

One of the most impressive things ever witnessed was when Longview won football, basketball and the sprint relay championships all in the same year. I think Bobby Taylor was a part of all 3.....correct me if I'm wrong wos87.

Argyle unfortunately will top out at 65 or so before they move to 5A.

When did Celina move into the top spot? Must've been last year. (Obviously those include wins at lower levels before 3A/4A.)

Sinton almost pulled off something similar. The year they played the in the state championship (2001 season), they won the baseball state championship and got like 3rd in the Mile relay at state. Isn't that right SintonFan??

Isn't that right SintonFan??Yea lost to Everman in state final, thought we had it as Sinton was up at halftime and defense had been playing great. Won state title in baseball (2002) and track team mile relay got 2nd place, Sinton last runner Bubba Heard had make up a big lead that the Atlanta runner had and look might make up the distance but too much of a big lead to overcome.

that race was AWESOME!!! I believe it was Julian Ruiz on the 3rd leg that made up a big gap to get Sinton into striking distance!

After playing Sinton I have become very fond of them. The players and fans are a class act. They knocked us (Bellville) out of the football playoffs in 2001, it was a great game. Then I believe they also knocked us out of the baseball tourney that year, can anyone confirm that? They really had our number but they were fun to play. We played similar styles of football so there was some good hitting and some great runs. I remember we keyed all week on Marcus Charles because he was kind of the lead dog throughout the year for Sinton, then Julian Ruiz ran wild! They were a great one-two punch, and along with Alaniz at QB, there might not have been a better backfield in the state that year! I got to know Bubba well after high school. He is a great guy, very soft spoken but tough. AND HE COULD FLAT OUT FLY! Anyone know what he is up to?

I couldn't agree more! I love me some Sinton peeps. I honestly was torn on who to root for last year in the Semis. I know I would've been happy no matter who won. Still waiting on that matchup with Cuero. Would love to see that game.

feel the same way about that group of kids from Bellville! I remember some of y'all being on the sidelines at state championship game? We did knock y'all out in baseball that spring. Bubba is in doing well - living & working in Houston.

From a lifelong buckeye fan, it is still hard for me to believe my buckeyes are up there with some great historic programs. I know I should be used to it by now, but damn that is such an honor to be amongst those storied programs. I just hope the Buckeyes keep it going.

Masonic Home. Thought it was in Fort Worth. They played Corsicana High. The Mighty Mites... there was a really good book written about them and they were also the reason Highland Park threw a fit and forced the UIL to divide the state into two classifications in 1939.

State of Texas had a large school, 700 students, in Corsicana called State Home. I seem to remember Gilmer playing a game in Corsicana around the same year. I don't remember if they played State Home or Corsicana High.
