Rematch from last year.

Hondo Harris healthy this year.

That huge DT they had is thankfully gone.

We're not as good, but our sophs are getting better every week.

Well..it's a day game but not by much. #50 if I recall...like 6' 2-6' 3 and 275 or something like that. He was a beast and a pain in the arse for the Texans. As far as not being as good...we just may be very close (insert homer). I just can't see Harris getting that much time to pass against us as he did in the PI game. Looking forward to this one. I will be there.

Bomar might just light up the score board with Hondo Harris for this one for a bit of payback.

Wimberley can get to Harris then this will be a game otherwise he's going to hit receivers all game.

I seen Wimberlity play in Victoria at least 4 times and they won them all. They seem to love playing there. Another young team peaking at right time. I be there .

We will get to Harris...will it be enough? I think it will! Can they stop the Texan offense..which just may be the real question. I see a great game evolving on Saturday!

We will get to Harris...will it be enough? I think it will!either the line is good at blocking but he had a lot of time to just stand there and pick and choose in Ingleside game, we'll see because he apparently can handle blitzing from what I've seen posted in clippiings. I'll most likely be seating in Wimberley side as Orange Grove might just pack their side.

Lol that's because Ingleside is terrible!!! Even still...they did manage to sack him at least once. That OG line will be tested on Saturday.

Looks like Wimberley is right back in the mix where they belong. I too think this game will be close. Tough to completely shut down a good passing qb though. Good luck to both teams on Saturday night under the lights(after the 1st qtr.).

it surprised me that Og allowed them to keep the ball as long as they did on some of those drives! Of course, the game was slowed down a lot because of all those damn penalties. The bottom line is - even with Wimberley's struggles this year they will have athletes on the field that will match up better against OG than any other team they have played this year. I'm sure OG is chomping at the bit for redemption from last years exit!

They played pretty much some of the teams Sinton played so Sinton hasn't proven anything playing the same teams as Orange Grove. We did miss out on Rio Hondo though and they missed out on Rockport Fulton. Just saying Wimberley didn't look like they could cover the pass against Sinton last season and Sinton not considered a passing team like Orange Grove.

OG had nothing on offense without Harris last year. I thought Sinton had a hell of a passing offense last year..was I wrong? With that said we scored we did score 40+ legit pts on you guys.

OG receivers and running backs are small but very fast. Don't discount their offense or you will be in for a surprise. They have more than just one weapon this year. I would also say their D-line is as good as Sinton's and The Pirate D-line is very good.

No idea just how good OG is because they haven't played anyone even decent this season. Here's their schedule with MaxPreps' state rank for each team:

Robstown 1031
Tuloso-Midway 807
Beeville 842
Aransas Pass 638
Raymondville 755
Progreso 1097
Rio Hondo 706
Port Isabel 728
West Oso 1004
Ingleside 853

Granted, they did beat every one of those teams by 15+, but it's hard to figure out how much that means.

Even with a 4-7 record, Wimberley is ranked over 100 spots higher than every one of those teams.

My point being Harris is the catalyst. He pretty much puts the ball right where it needs to be, turning them into good receivers they just have to make the grab and at one point maybe 3 weeks ago when I look at his stats he was at 79 pct completion rate!

But like you've mention getting to him if Wimberley can do that then it could go either way.

As you know rb, through those 7 losses Wimberley was able to ID their weakness, , some of the losses were ugly even painful. They are a much improved team with fewer mistakes. Our boys are still getting better.

Actually would have been closer to 400 yards rushing, but on a long run by PI, the RB fumbled the ball as he was being tackled and OG recovered. I believe the TO negates the yardage gained.

Two takeaways from that article for me: (1) I forgot HH was injured last year. Not good for Wimberley; and (2) that had to be a typo saying HH was the 3rd ranked 4A-D2 QB in "the area." I'd put him no. 2 in the state behind Celina's QB.

Hey TT......I remember the year when Argyle went to the State Final for the first time back in the old 2A. We had 3 losses, and then didn't lose another game til we met Newton in the Final and they were undefeated. We lost 28-20 in a freezing rainy Friday night. We had a passing attack and they had a running game. The next day the weather was great and Celina won the DII crown. We were DI out of the same district, and they had destroyed us for the district title. My son was on that team. This looks similar for Wimberley this season.....except the competition will be stellar.

Not really? What Navarro done the last two years getting beat by Cuero? Wimberley went 3-7 in the regular season. Until Navarro proves who they are they will still not garner any respect. Wimberley beat Pearsall and OG but really? True but that is the way it is and Navarro will just have to show up Friday against Cuero and play lights out! We respect Cuero and do know they have been the leaders for years in this area!

VICTORIA — Orange Grove's season has been defined by big plays and taking advantage of opportunities.

Saturday the Bulldogs had plenty of opportunities inside Wimberley territory, but never took advantage.

Wimberley, meanwhile, kept finding ways to stay in the game and pounced on its chances as the Texans ended Orange Grove's season for the second consecutive year with a 21-7 victory in a Class 4A Division II area-round game at Memorial Stadium.

Two of Wimberley's touchdowns came after Bulldogs' special teams' mistakes, while the other TD came after a grinding six-minute, 81-yard drive in the fourth quarter.

"It was frustrating and we just tried to stay in there," senior Orange Grove quarterback Hondo Harris said. "I thought we gave great effort, and we had a lot of opportunities and we didn't take advantage."

Wimberley, which started the year 0-6 and is now 5-7, will take on Sinton (11-0) in a Class 4A Division II regional semifinal at 2 p.m. Saturday at Alamo Stadium in San Antonio.

Orange Grove (10-1) went undefeated in the regular season for the first time since 1948 and won a fifth consecutive district championship, but Saturday's loss will be tough to swallow.

Orange Grove had 11 possessions on Saturday, and seven of them either started in Wimberley territory or the Bulldogs drove into it. But Orange Grove scored once on Alex Acuna's 19-yard touchdown reception from Harris late in the first quarter. Harris, meanwhile, was harassed much of the game by Wimberley's defense, and could never find a passing rhythm, completing 12 of 27 passes for 170 yards and an interception.

The two most frustrating of those possessions were in the third quarter. A 32-yard kickoff return by Connor Hans to open the second half set up Orange Grove at the Wimberley 32. Four plays into that possession, Wimberley defensive back Sage Heineman made a great play on a tipped ball for an interception.

The other golden chance came later in the third quarter when a bad snap on a Wimberley punt attempt gave Orange Grove the ball at the Texans' 19-yard line. Four straight incompletions later, the Bulldogs were left wondering what they had to do to score again as the score remained tied at 7.

"We had some plays and we missed them, just missed them," Orange Grove coach Jerry Bomar said. "I think we lost the game in the third quarter. We had it twice, and they had a fluke interception and we had three plays wide open and missed all three."

After Harris' final incompletion with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, the Texans regained the ball back and grounded out an 81-yard, 14-play drive that ended with a 3-yard TD run by Logan McKinney for a 14-7 lead. Wimberley never trailed again.

Orange Grove's defense held strong most of the game, allowing 107 rushing yards and 194 total, but Wimberley converted on two key pass plays on the fourth-quarter drive, illustrating how it had a knack for converting on their chances.

"We didn't really change anything, we just got the kids refocused and said, 'This is what we've got to do,'" Wimberley coach Doug Warren said. "We came out and moved the ball and got some confidence rolling, and boy, they hung in there and kept fighting."

Wimberley's other two TDs came off special-teams mistakes in the first and fourth quarters. Hunter Williams scored on a 19-yard run in the opening quarter after a bad snap on an Orange Grove punt attempt. In the fourth quarter Gavin Martinez scored on a 2-yard run after a botched snap on a field-goal attempt.

"This is a bunch of great kids and bunch of very intelligent kids, very coachable," Bomar said. "They maximized themselves to the fullest all year. It's disappointing when you lose in the playoffs and lose to a team we thought we could beat. But I think these guys gave great effort. It's just an unfortunate deal but it happens."

It was 62 degrees when we pulled up to the stadium at about 4:40.

That was far and away the coldest 62 degrees I have ever felt in my life.

My summary...the wind was definitely a factor..we had one of our beefy OL starters ejected very early. Still don't know what happened there. That was a factor. The prettiest pass and catch all night was not from an OG tandem. Did I mention the wind? On a night like this, fluke plays, as someone called it and special teams mishaps are very much a decisive factor.
So proud of the Texans! OG brought their slobber knockers tonight..we just kept getting up. (insert Rocky theme song here) lol Last but not least..kudos to our defense! They played their butts off!

Wow negative rushing yards!!! Lots of sacks of Harris. Wimberley Dline just too fast for that OG Oline ! Nice job, Texans. See you Saturday!

The other thing that was huge was that in the first half especially, we blitzed the house on nearly every play, leaving everyone in the secondary with 1-on-1 coverage, just like against Sinton last year. But unlike against Sinton last year, our secondary kids wrapped up and made tackles.

Yeah, and I have no idea what that game is like without the wind. Our offense sure couldn't pass into the wind, so they single-covered and put as many as 9 in the box because they knew we weren't going to throw. Not sure the wind actually helped us.

lol. I just mention that game is the only one I seen this year's team. I've seen plenty of video of them they can handle blitzing.

Should have been 28-7 Texans. Also, hats off to OG linebackers and Dbacks, , they fly to the ball. Totally shut down the edges.

I'll second that. Anyone who knows anything about Texas high school football knows what kind of football tradition Cuero has, and, dangit, they've beaten us two years in a row. As, far as Wimberley, they are solid but they're real young and they're on their third QB this year. Sinton is the clear favorite there. It's all pretty exciting (and nerve-wracking for the parents).

Bomar might just light up the score board with Hondo Harris for this one for a bit of payback.

Wimberley can get to Harris then this will be a game otherwise he's going to hit receivers all game.

We will get to Harris...will it be enough? I think it will! Can they stop the Texan offense..which just may be the real question. I see a great game evolving on Saturday!

you were saying ...:wave:OG line was outmatch keeping pressure on him through out the game, only thing that usually seem to be there was the middle of the field. Don't think the wind affected the passing game at all just pressure by defense on both sides. Texans applied pressure so this was a toss up til one team could make the plays needed to win this and it happen in the 4th qtr. Congrats on the win and great turnaround by the Texans, peaking at the right time.

The Texans DL did very well against the OG OL. Much of your pressure was up the middle of the line making Harris scramble all night long. BTW, where were ya'll in the crowd? I had to be sitting right next to at least you or rb585. lol And yes that wind was nippy!

Watch the 1:00 mark and you can see why he was tossed. I was at the game and didn't see what happened in that scrum lol now I know. Good game by both teams  and very hard hitting

The play should have been blown dead sooner but I was thinking he probably punched someone. If you look close enough you can see the OG player shoved his hand in the guys' face.

Got there just after the 1st qtr started. Left of the 50 and up about 3/4 way. Great view and roomy. lol Disappointed in our attendance numbers. Quite sure they'll be better next week.

Congrats to Wimberley for advancing against a very good offensive club in Orange Grove. Looks like your pass rush disrupted Harris all day.
