Went to Midland to watch Greenwood host Monahans. Bobcats will likely get the winner of this game in the second round.

I'm just shocked it's gotten that bad in La Marque. Figured La Marque would be around the 600 range. Not low enough to drop down to 3A.

It'll be interesting to see. If Bobcats do stay DII, that means Gilmer will also stay DII, and Graham is coming down from DI. It'll be interesting to see what Argyle's numbers are, too. This realignment could make for some fun districts.

I was looking at numbers from the past three years and Cuero has grown 40/50 students every year. (Cuero Junior High has large numbers also.)

Not many schools in the Cuero area field two freshman teams and a full JV squad.

I'm betting the new number for D1 will be BELOW 695 just to send Gilmer and Celina packing to the Bigs, haha. Heck, they can play with ANY team in 4A, so even if they are only a few students over the cutline(like Argyle was), it will only make things more interesting in Division I, and I think there's still plenty of quality teams in D2 to go around....esp. if Graham drops down. But there appears to be quite a few schools with large enrollment numbers now in 4A.....above the the 750 level....have you noticed?

Yep. And apparently, Graham turned in 711, not the 692 that was originally reported. Steers are, barring a large increase in the cutoff number, staying Div. I.

4A Division I is going to be a lot more populated in North Texas than Division II will be. Bonham, Melissa and Community will get to know East Texas well. Bridgeport is just screwed travelwise. Do we know Anna and Aubrey?

Yep. I have a feeling the Bobcats are going to be right there where the 'natural' dividing line is. My guess is Gilmer stays DII with 695 and Celina bumps up with 696 and will be the smallest school in DI.

If Gilmer stays the biggest D-II school for four years running, the conspiracy accusations will start to fly.

I don't think it has so much to do with the actual number of students as it does the actual number of schools to split. I think the UIL raises the D2 number some. I'm thinking around 698, but it has nothing to do with Gilmer OR Celina, who just happens to have the same numbers.

It's the UIL, for heaven's sake. Some of the stuff they do doesn't make a lot of sense anyway.

Liberty-Eylau used to be at 666 last week. I'm glad they somehow found the extra 87 students to get them to 753.

I'm guessing they'd have given the other schools in Division II a "devil" of a time had they moved down.

Also, there is NO DOUBT the upper end of Division II is going to be EXACTLY 695. Right where it ought to be. :evillol:

I say they might go up as far as 699, then Pittsburg would get that dubious honor of being the largest D2 school. :evillol:

Port Isabel - 636

About as expected, PI has been hovering between 600-650 kids for ages. Still trying to find numbers for a few more RGV area schools to get a better idea of what D16-II might look like for the next couple years. Rumor has it Raymondville and Progreso may be dropping down but their numbers haven't been turned in yet. So I can't get a clear idea until those two schools' numbers are verified.

That's also a likely scenario, just depends on what the final enrollment numbers turned in looks like. If that does happen , it would make Pitt the biggest DII school, and put Celina and Gilmer right there at second and third for two more years.

Without those two, just how watered down would D2 be? Both schools have shown they "could" definitely compete with D1, but D1 would be even more stacked with those two added to the mix.

Shoot, if Melissa got put into Gilmer's district last time, why not Celina and Gilmer this time?

Aesculus gilmus
11-06-2015, 08:26 AM
Because Celina is farther west than Melissa. Melissa is as far as I'll drive and I hope I never have to drive even that far again.

Moreover, the UIL now considers Celina to be a West Texas school. How else would they end up playing Sweetwater for a regional championship?

Region I needs Celina to provide a higher level of opponent in that region. In Region II, they'd be just one among many powers.

It also pretty much guarantees that Celina will make it to the semifinals more often than not, so I would assume many of the Bobcat faithful wouldn't go for the region change either.
