Ok, it took me a while, but I think I figured out this computer algorithm...so bear with me here.

1. If your school name starts with an 'A', automatic deduction on 3 spots (-3) in the ranking (Abilene's name is actually Wylie)

2. If your school name ends with an 'O', automatic deduction of 3 spots (-3)

3. If your mascot is human, automatic deduction of 3 spots (-3)

4. If you play in District 5, automatic deduction of 3 spots (-3), unless you're undefeated

5. If 2 or more of your district foes are winless starting district, automatic deduction of 3 spots (-3), unless you're undefeated

6. If your biggest win of the year came on a 4th and 12 prayer with less than a minute to play, automatic 1 point deduction (-1)

7. If you get beat by 50 points, automatic deduction of 10 spots (-10)......(lucky for a few teams that only got beaten by 47, because there is no point deduction for anything less that 50)

So, if these items were removed from the algorithm, Alvarado would clearly be #2, right behind Kennedale, instead of sitting at #17
