We dropped a few spots because we didn't cover their projected spread, but hey at least we are still ranked above Sweetwater! :D

We shouldn't be above Sinton. That doesn't make sense. I like Celina at one. I could go either way with Sinton and WOS at two and three. I thought WOS would drop off a little losing so much, but they are playing at a high level. I'd put Gilmer at four because they lost a lot, too, and they've had a couple of funky wins against so-so teams. But the big four remain the big four until someone knocks them off. (Richmond Foster beating WOS doesn't count. They're a top 20 5A school.)

What's with Port Isabel being so low with only a single loss? I'm guessing I'm lacking information. Strength of schedule, close wins?

Only loss was to a good passing attack private school St Joseph Academy led by sophomore Kai Money. Port Isabel travels to Rio Hondo Friday night and should be a good one but i'm leaning towards Rio Hondo taking that one with their improve passing game.

Hop on that shutout win train and maybe you won't plummet in the rankings next time! You guys were the only team in the top seven to let the opposition find the end zone last week. I mean, geeze, Sinton, I thought you guys had a defense down there! :taunt:

In my opinion, Gilmer is still the No. 1 team. They lost a lot, but my goodness, what they lost was a once-in-a-generation team. The cupboard isn't bare for the Buckeyes. Last time I checked, they are in East Texas, so there's still plenty of speed and athleticism abounding on that team. They're No. 1 and WOS is still No. 2 to me. Beyond that, I'd put Celina at No. 3, Sinton at No. 4, Sweetwater at No. 5 and Navarro at No. 6.

Of course, that's me forming a subjective poll. But as SweetwaterRed has reminded on an almost weekly basis, this is not a man-made poll we're looking at. Either way, it makes for good conversation as we enter week eight.

If by "on an almost weekly basis" you mean once this season, in a follow up to what WOS87 said, then this is a spot on assessment.
Otherwise you're just making s@&t up. :taunt:

You also have to take into account not a single opponent that WOS beat handily this year to date lost this week so our strength of schedule went way up. Jasper, PNG, LCM, Newton all won and Richmond Foster only lost to 5A #3 by 7 points and lead most of that game.

I hope I don't step in it. I was referring to the Tatum and Daingerfield games. Gilmer beat Tatum 23-0. I know Tatum has a lot of talent, but they're 0-6 and everyone else has scored in the 30's 40's and 50's against them. Gladewater beat them 51-12 at Tatum. So, I put the Tatum win in the funky column. And, Gilmer beat Dangerfield 43-27. Daingerfield is a 1 and 5 3A team (probably a very good 1 and 5 3A team) but 27 points is a lot of points for a No. 1 ranked 4A team to give up to a 1 and 5 3A team. And, again, Gladewater beat them worse. So, that's my funky reasoning. Looking at Celina, WOS and Sinton, I haven't seen any odd wins. (Full disclosure: All I know is what I see on Max Preps. I've never seen any of these teams in person.)

Lol rankings schmankings we like pulling our starters thus very limited shut outs. Hell, the majority of our starters didn't play past the first quarter last week.

Using your terminology, our closest "funky win" was against LCM. If many dont know though, its a rivalry game (very lopsided rivalry game) but still rivalry. The city of Orange has 2 highschools in the city limits, Little Cypress Mauriceville and West Orange Stark. LCM always plays up in that game plus it was our first game with basically a whole new team. Just for giggles, the city of Orange has 18k people and we have 2- 4A Highschools. The Greater Orange area has around 30-40k people and there is 4- 4A highschools all within a little more than a 10 mile radius from each other. Bridge City, Orangefield, LCM and WOS. Bridge City is its own city but the others are in parts of Orange. kinda crazy if you think about that many schools in a small area.

We are favored by a total of 150 points over our next four games. I doubt seriously we will cover that in two of those games.
Especially the 63 points against Lamesa.

we like pulling our starters

That's every coach in the state (not named Jason Herring).

That's interesting stuff. Thanks. I didn't know LCM was in Orange. The part of my post where I said I thought WOS would drop off a little due to losing so many seniors was actually a reference to the LCM game. But, like you said, it was your first game with basically a new team, and those guys got on track pretty fast.

Trust me, most of us WOS fans were a little nervous going into the season ranked so high with 1/5 starters returning. We didnt just lose seniors, we also lost 90% of our State Finalist team and about 3 kids that are playing D1 ball right now. Odds were way against us. But, we do Re-Load at WOS. Its not just a saying. Put it this way, after our 1986 SC I believe we lost our whole team to grad. The '87 team is arguably the best team WOS has ever had on the field and ran the table. Our coaching staff is top notch and gets these kids to play well beyond the talent level they thought they had. The kids have grown up fast and the arse whooping by Foster made us even better!!
