Well, there ya go, Navarro fans. Can't say anything about not getting any love anymore. This was one of the more shocking DII polls I've seen, though. Leave it to the boys at PigskinPreps, I guess.

Its pretty funny how Navarros pigskin rank needs a public disclaimer. Is it really that shocking? Lol

For a team that couldn't make it out of the Area round in Region IV to be ranked No. 1 ... yeah, that's pretty shocking. It's not a knock on Navarro, and it doesn't mean they don't deserve the No. 1 spot. Heck, maybe they are the best team in 4A DII. Lots of football to be played before that gets decided. But for where we are heading into week 7, yeah, it's surprising to see them at the top.

I hope they continue to win. I love when those old school ground-and-pound teams have a lot of success, even as much as I think it is to watch really high-powered offenses.

for the last 2 years I would say that we couldn't make it past deanthony hopkins. It really has no baring on what round it was...
I love what you said about ground and pound teams having success though, I totally agree. This year however navarro is much more balanced than an average slot-t team.

And there's some truth to that. Hopkins was a beast, no question, and I think we're seeing how valuable he was to Cuero. And that balance will certainly help Navarro this year, for sure. What'd you guys throw, for like 300 yards in the first half a couple weeks ago? Don't see many slot-t teams do that, or even really have the ability to do that.

Well Region III looks like a complete mess with six teams in the top thirteen. According to these numbers the playoffs would look like this:

Region III

D9-1st WOS (#4 in State) vs D10-4th Scarborough
D11-3rd Caldwell (#15 in State) vs D12-2nd Bellville (#10 in State)
D10-1st LaMarque (#11 in State) vs D9-4th Hardin-Jefferson
D11-2nd LaGrange (#13 in State) vs D12-3rd Columbus

D11-1st Giddings (#9 in State) vs D12-4th Sweeny
D10-2nd Worthing vs D9-3rd Hamshire-Fannett
D12-1st Wharton (#8 in State) vs D11-4th Smithville
D9-2nd Orangefield vs D10-3rd Kashmere

If the year ended up like this ranking 5 of the top 15 in the state would be vying for one quarterfinal spot in the top half of the R3 bracket whereas 5 teams in the top 15 would be competing in Regions I and II combined for a State Final berth.

Region IV

D13-1st Navarro (#1 in State) vs D14-4th Poteet
D16-2nd Rio Hondo vs D15-3rd Cuero
D14-1st Devine vs D13-4th Hondo
D15-2nd Yoakum vs D16-3rd Raymondville

D15-1st Sinton (#3 in State) vs D16-4th Port Isabel
D14-2nd Pearsall vs D13-3rd Lytle
D16-1st Orange Grove (#7 in State) vs D15-4th Ingleside
D13-2nd Wimberley vs D14-3rd Crystal City

No respect for the defending champion Buckeyes. Great motivator. I'll let the team know.

Gladewater ranked 12th after a 1-4 start. Gotta love it.

Yes, La Grange being favored by 26 and losing by 19 to Fredericksburg and then favored by 17 vs. Yoakum only to win by 1 point
has caused your power rating to drop 15 points.

Yeah, poor Gilmer.

I'm not complaining.:D Gilmer has a lot of improving to do before they are worthy of any "loftier" ranking, in my opinion. Not to mention, it's just a POLL. I wouldn't care if we were ranked #87, lol. It's where we FINISH that counts.

Yep, polls are polls. They have no bearing on who hoists the hardware. They are fun to talk about and analyze and break apart, though. Gilmer will be one of the final four teams standing, though, in my opinion. That defense is good enough to, as they say, win championships.

Well to be 100% correct Pigskin isn't a poll it's a mathematically calculated ranking using an algorithm. Polls involve the opinions of an actual group of people who ideally are well-informed and unbiased (but which usually isn't the case). Both systems have their obvious flaws otherwise why even play the games on the field?

Exactly

I've been posting samples from Prep's calculations for years and I used to cringe at the amout of posters
that would continuously refer to his work as polls. Thankfully the majority have figured it out. I mean it's
like looking at an apple and calling it an orange.
