La Vernia has definitely had the tougher schedule of the two. Sinton's defense has been playing really good so far and the offense has also but the passing game ain't quite where it can be. I know La Vernia is better than their record shows so this should be a tough game to pick a winner. Sinton D gonna get tested this week. Don't think they can hold La Vernia to their points allowed average, but the Sinton O will score enough to win the game. Sinton 28-La Vernia 21.

LV beat Calhoun by 28 last year. That's a 45 pt. swing in one year. LV is much weaker this year. Sinton is without a doubt better than LV. As for LG, I think it's a toss-up. Sinton has a slightly better D (IMO) and a way better QB. LG has JK.

Sinton has several players still that played La Vernia in region IV title game in 2013 and played them last season in La Vernia. Last season Sinton jump out to a 14-0 lead then game was stopped due to weather and resume after about 30-40 min delay. Sinton was up half way through 3rd qtr 20-14 when La Vernia got it going and ran off last 27 points of the game winning 40-20.

Last season was La Vernia 1st win over Sinton. Pirates at home will be looking for payback.

As I recall, Sinton went into the 4th qtr. tied with very speedy WOS last December. They were a WOS mistake away from the state finals. I don't see much drop off with Sinton's O this year and, if anything, there D looks stronger. And, they are playoff tested and hungry for more. At this point, I personally put them with Celina as the two best teams in 4A-DII with LG, WOS, and Gilmer right behind them and some other teams, Navarro, Wharton, Mexia, Sweetwater, etc. that could make deep runs. It's kind of up for grabs this year, which is pretty cool.

Speed is great but if you don't execute on offense and defense and keep turnovers to a minimum, that speed don't mean a damn thing.

Agree that you need to play the game well in all facets to win a SC plus have some good luck. Speed is important but so is coaching, discipline, athleticism and conditioning. The team that has all that with some luck(getting a few turnovers, no injuries or distractions etc) should win the SC.

We've played 3 games this year and I will agree that none of them had any real speed, but we DO have speed and we CAN & WILL compete with teams that have speed. We did it last year with pretty much the same defense.

This will be a good test for us.

I think Sinton takes this one at home, but I expect a good game. The week off was the best thing that could have happened for La Vernia. While the Bears showed flashes of what they can be and were right there with two very good teams at half-time, they were also exposed on both sides of the ball, and fell apart late in those games. I look for the Bears to come out sharp in both the first and second halves and execute much better for four quarters this week. As others have mentioned, few if any, are playing both ways right now. The new regime has a different approach, and it's hard to argue given the head coach's experience on a state championship staff a year ago. I'm guessing he knows a thing or two, so we'll see how this season plays out. I'm hoping the Bears surprise a few folks later in the season. The talent is there. Team speed is good. Good athletes are learning how to be good football players also. Execution should continue to improve. Sinton is a great team right now, so it'll be very interesting to see how well the Bears hold up. Wish I could be there. I'm sure the Pirates will be pumped up, and the AC/DC will be turned up just a little more. Should be a great experience for both teams.

I think they've had to have lost at least 50 yards on sacks and that big grounding penalty. LV looks to be a little bigger than Sinton, but I'll give our skill guys an edge on speed. Good game so far! I bet the second half is gonna be just as good.

Yes. Fulton, BJ, GZ, Pleasanton, Rtown. One of the easiest districts IMO in state.
