Carthage offense looked pathetic for first 3 quarters. They had several chances to win and did not close the deal. Surrat made terrible coaching decisions chasing points. C&C is the biggest homer on this board.

+1. I'm not questioning Surratt, but that was a poorly executed game by the coaching staff IMO. The building blocks are there to be a really good team. We defintley pass the eye test. But our O is going to have to step up. We gave that game away prolly 5 times. Not converting points in the first half while our D was shutting them down is ridiculous for a supposedly experienced O. I don't care if it's the 1st game or not. Gilmer would've beat us by 50 tonight.

You have to remember, coach S is finding out who can play where. How many sophomores did you see in the game at different positions, how many players period were playing different positions. I thought it was a perfect game to find out where we were weak and where we were strong. Hallsville is a good 5A football team. They had 10 players back on defense that took us to the wood shed last year. I MAY BE A DAWG HOMER, but I will never question a coach with 5 state championships. The Dawgs are going to be bad to the bone by the time district rolls around. The team is full of sophomores and Juniors, give them time. Blissett was way better tonight than he was at this time last year. He threw for 418 yards and the Dawgs rushed for 171 yards. Not bad for the first game in my opinion. I agree the Dawgs could have won this game an dshould have won the game, but more important the game made us better for next week. The goal is the state championship and if I remember correctly this team looks a lot like the state championship teams of the past. Time will tell.

He sure had me thinking that Carthage was going to be something special again with all those posts about all the stud athletes on the field. Not that they won't end up being that by the years end, but sounds like they got some work to do as we all do.

Well in his defense there are a ton of studs. But that don't mean squat if you can't execute. I still don't know how we lost that game. We gained nearly 600 yards of offense, and going into the 4th had only scored 12 points. That tells anybody that there was a ton of mistakes. But when you out gain your oppenet by 200 yards, and shut them down yardage wise in the first half, and are down 12 at the half that's an execution problem. Bottom line Carthage made a ton of mental errors last night, and had that game won only to give it away 2 plays later. Carthage will be really good by the time district and playoffs roll around, but we weren't very good last night.

We had two TDs called back on dumb penalties, and we had an INT overturned, which led to a LC touchdown a few plays later, and their other scoring drive was aided by a penalty after Celina held them on third-and-long. Starkel threw a TD pass late in the fourth against the 2nd team. Which is why I said the score makes it seem a little closer than it actually was.
