La Vernia will get the win by a td or so. The Bears are just a tough hard playing well disciplined team and will get out of the gate a wee bit faster than the Texans IMO. This should be a real good game and both teams match up well. I just think LV has an edge this early on and gets the jump on the Texans. In recent times Wimberley has consistently improved as the season wears on after slow starts.

Great opener, both should be improved over last year. LV gone from slow paced, to speeding up the snaps a bit. Bears run mainly same type of "O" as under Bo. Few tweaks. Close game throughout. Think Bear LB'ers cause some issues late, 30-20 LaVernia.

Where are the Wimberley peeps? They are surprisingly absent. I get it though. It's hard to know what you have this early. This game should tell us quite a bit. On paper, the Bears appear to have more than reloaded, but we'll see what happens. I have no idea what Wimberley has. I just know they supposedly lost a lot of starters.

I have to ask the same thing about our peeps. We are young. I do believe however our OL averages 250-260 with a future DI at tackle (soph. 6 4" 270). He started as a freshman. Most all of our skill players on offense graduated. From what I have seen so far in the scrimmages is as that we can move the ball but like I've always said about scrimmages....they ain't worth diddly squat for gauging how a real game will evolve. Not sure if a decision has been made about our starting QB but there is a soph. kid that's come up through the ranks that has some skills. IMO..on defense the LBs will be solid as usual (all 3 were all district last year) but our weakness, once again, will be our secondary. Don't get me wrong..there is some real talent here..just much of it is green. We shall see. The Bears came to our house last year and blanked us 28-0. I'm sure this will add some motivation to return the favor... and no..I'm not saying a shutout. Just get the win. It could do wonders for the psyche. Most important...play well and learn from the experience.

We are really young. We will be much better at the end of the season than we will be on Friday.

On another note, I seriously must have blocked out last year's game, because I have no recollection of us losing 28-0 and thought this game was going to be at home. I wouldn't be shocked if we lost 28-0 again, and I would be good with repeating that if it also means our season ends three rounds into the playoffs again.

Rb585, you will like LVs stadium. I know wimberley has nicely remodeled their stadium because we have gone to Wimberley for 3-4 games in a row.
So all I'm saying is welcome to our house, enjoy the concession stand, and if you win anything during the game, see the cheerleaders.

We have new players at all skill positions so I think we will probably be slow out of the gate. Once district gets here I'm sure coach will have them much improved!
I would be tickled pink if we just play well at La Vernia. A win would be a great confidence builder for these young players and get them started off right.
And after the summer they went through it's great just to get back to some sense of normalcy!
Go Texans!

I've been there. The stadium and the whole campus are pretty phenomenal for a school that size. Lots of property taxes coming from somewhere...

I don't expect the coaching change to impact the Bears much this year because the basic offense and defense are very similar to years past.
It will become more apparent (positive or negative) in the coming years.
This team has about 34 seniors who are definitely buying in and hungry to take the program to another level.
I don't think they will fly under the radar for very long.

The young man I was talking about (Woods) has been hurt so it appears, at least for Friday's game, another soph. and jr. will split time...Weeks and Masur.

Both teams look like it's their first game. I like what I see from both sides. Hoping that Bruce kid can take us to the next level. Both D's look really good.

For reference, Boerne, who was like running through a wet paper bag, is ahead 34-0 on Hondo.

42-0 Boerne. Long season for Hondo I guess.

I'm pretty high on WT. Bears are very good, and WT D did well. The coming weeks should show as much.

from the bears standpoint it didn't feel like a great win. I am sure the coaches will have some teaching points for practice this week.
