Jeff Neely will be coaching in Karnes County for the second consecutive football season.

But he'll be at a different school and in a different position.

Neely was named the athletic director and head football coach at Runge on Monday night by the school district's board of trustees.

Neely was the offensive coordinator at Karnes City last season - his first at the school.

He will replace Matt Wright, who resigned after two seasons as the athletic director and head football coach.

"Truly, Jeff Neely possesses a combination of coaching and teaching qualities desirable to join our Runge ISD school team," interim superintendent Pam Seipp said in a statement. "I expect he will enhance and lead the athletic program to new heights of success for students, and at the same time will encourage positive academic success for all district students."

Neely has been a head football coach at Natalia and High Island.

He was an assistant coach in the Austin school district and at Bruceville-Eddy.

He has also coached basketball, baseball, track and field and soccer.

Runge received 40 applications for the position.

The Yellowjackets had a 1-9 record last season and went 0-4 in District 14-2A, Division II.

Runge had a 7-3 record in 2013 and advanced to the bi-district playoffs.
