SHINER - Riley Stock knew El Campo had the possibility for a special season.

Stock is the lone junior starter on a team dominated by upper classmen.

"We have 12 seniors," Stock said. "So let's get on their back and rock and roll."

Stock did the heavy lifting Friday night at the Shiner Starplex and led the Ricebirds to a 5-4 eight-inning Game 2 Class 4A regional semifinal win over Sinton.

El Campo won Game 1 1-0 Thursday night in Seguin and swept the series, improving to 28-5 while advancing to the regional final.

El Campo will play the winner of the Hidalgo-Brazosport series. Hidalgo took a 2-0 win in Game 1 Friday.

Stock had two hits, including a double, but his most important contribution came on the mound in a game that featured four lead changes.

Stock came on in relief of Tayton Priesmeyer, who had relieved an injured starter Brylan Crivellari on the second batter of the first inning.

Stock came on with no outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth and the Pirates leading 4-3.

He proceeded to strike out the next three batters.

"I don't know what to say," he exclaimed. "It was pretty awesome. That was big."

Stock struck out four and did not allow a hit in his four innings of relief.

The Ricebirds tied the game on Stock's double and a sacrifice fly by Brock Brandl in the sixth.

El Campo pushed across the winning run against Sinton starter Jordan Martinez in the eighth.

Andrew Saucedo led off with a single and moved to second when the ball got away from the center fielder.

Saucedo went to third on the throw to first on a strikeout and came home on a two-out passed ball.

Stock retired the Pirates in order in the seventh and El Campo moved one round away from the state tournament.

"People pop up and go," Stock said. "Our theory all season has been the next guy up - let's go. We pulled it out and made it happen."
