The Brazosport Exporters accomplished exactly what they set out to do on the baseball field Saturday.

Brazosport (18-10) closed out the Class 4A Region IV area series with a 2-0 sweep of the La Vernia Bears with a 6-1 victory on the road.

“These kids are so tough,” Brazosport coach Ken Schulte said. “It was another solid example of who we are — we pitched well and kept the score down, then took advantage of mistakes.”

The Exporters advance to the regional quarterfinals where they will meet a Sealy Tiger team that swept Navarro in the area round.

Michael Traylor pitched the Exporters to victory Saturday, tossing a complete-game three-hitter. Traylor’s lone earned run came by way of a solo homer in the fifth inning.

Brazosport went into the final inning with a 2-1 lead, but exploded for four runs in its final at-bat to secure the victory.

“We get into the sixth inning up 2-1, and we felt pretty confident we were going to win,” Schulte said.

On a four-game winning streak in the postseason, the Exporters’ confidence is steadily growing, said Schulte.

“It gets better and better every day,” he said.
