I've kept up with the La'el story since it's come up and as of now the only reason he was called in is because there were rumors he may have been the father of the deceased child.

Kid isn't a suspect and to be honest it's bull that the BRPD didn't clarify that from the beginning. However, I know details from an ongoing double murder investigation arent often released.
