Kensey Allen will return to work at Industrial on Wednesday as he has during the current school year.

But unlike he has in the past, Allen will do so as the athletic director and head football coach.

Allen was promoted from offensive coordinator by the Industrial school district board of trustees on Monday night.

Allen will replace Jeff Rogers, who resigned in March after one season.

Attempts to reach Allen for comment after the meeting were unsuccessful.

Allen was recommended to the board by Superintendent Tony Williams.

He was selected from a group of seven finalists that included former Industrial assistant Brandon Karl, Calhoun defensive coordinator Cory McFall, Waller assistant Gary Van Sant, Rice Consolidated offensive coordinator John David Caffey, Giddings assistant Neal Majewski and Del Valle defensive coordinator Craig Charlton.

Allen has nine years of coaching experience.

He coached at Edna for eight years, where he was a football assistant and the head baseball coach.

Allen graduated from McMurry University where he played baseball and he attended high school at Abilene Cooper.

The Cobras went 0-10 last season and 0-5 in District 14-3A, Division I.

Industrial hasn't had a winning season or been to the playoffs since 2010.
