One current and one former Industrial assistant are among seven finalists to become the school's athletic director and head football coach.

Tony Williams, superintendent of the Industrial school district, said he would make a recommendation at Monday night's meeting of the board of trustees.

Brandon Karl played quarterback at Industrial and was the offensive coordinator at the school until going into private business after the 2013-14 school year.

Kensey Allen is in his first year as an assistant at Industrial. He was previously an assistant at Edna.

Area candidates include Calhoun defensive coordinator Cory McFall, and Rice Consolidated offensive coordinator John David Caffey.

St. Joseph graduate Neal Majewski, an assistant at Giddings, and Waller assistant Gary Van Sant, the former head football coach at Wharton, Hallettsville, Tidehaven and Louise, have experience in the area.

Del Valle defensive coordinator Craig Charlton is the other finalist.

Williams said the district received 77 applications for the position.

The position opened when Jeff Rogers announced in March he would resign after one season at the end of the current school year.

Industrial went 0-10 last season and 0-5 in District 14-3A, Division I.

The Cobras haven't had a winning record or been to the playoffs since 2010.
