The Tigers had 10 district championships, and from 1993-1996 the team tied the state record for consecutive at 35. The Tigers set the record in 1997 with 24 consecutive playoff wins, and had a combined record of 63-1 for those four years.

Mills began is coaching career in Luling. After four years he went to Westbury in Houston. After a year as an assistant coach, he became the head coach. Three years later he became the head coach in Sealy, where he mounted a 15-year dynasty before moving on to Odessa Permian for three years and then ending his career with a three-year stint in La Porte.

One part of me wants to say "Rest in Peace, Coach", but then there's another part of me that wants to say "Good Riddance".

I'll just stay quiet instead, though the above statement I made speaks volumes of what I think of the man.

Great guy. RIP. For a period of time when he coached at Sealy, he'd come to Yoakum during his summer break and partake in our 2 person annual golf scrambles/calcutta. Both are gone now sadly.

Coach Mills Decade of Dominance is very impressive. He was a tough coach and expected every player to do their job and play as a team. Sadly those things are missing in a lot of high school programs. Enter the Prima Donna player. the " All About Me" and "as long as I'm the STAR, nothing else matters". Sealy's football program has turned into just that with the blessing of the current AD and coachng staff. Coach Mills definitely had some standouts, but it takes more than that to win 4 state titles in a row!! If you had attended the memorial, you would also know he created tons of tradition as well .

The saying " you don't miss something until it's gone,, is so true in many ways.

Glad I was able to see some of it.

Lastly, the man is gone, show some respect or show some class by saying nothing...

May God bless Coach Mills and his Family.

You, sir, are the one being disrespectful and showing No Class by being negative about the current AD and coaching staff. I have been paying close attention to this staff and AD, and my conclusion is they are doing a great job with the talent they are given at this time. Go watch the talent on the field they are competing against each week in football, basketball, track, etc. and it won't take you long to notice a dramatic dip in talent in Sealy currently. And our kids are competing their tails off. Coach Mills got a tremendous effort out of kids and I can say the same about this group of kids. Not very talented, but playing hard. Folks like you are hard to overcome in small communities. All the answers and never done a thing.

I saw Sealy play about 14 times during there 4 state title run.
Allways had very quick defense teams and there offense coaches made great adjustments and were
Clicking on all cylinders by 2qt. The kids really bought into TJ system and played at a very high level that most teams could not match . they also believed they would win each game because they were so prepared in practice
I remberber a game against George West when a GW kid and a Sealy kid throw some punches after a play and both were ejected from game. With 5 minutes left in half TJ escorted kid to locker room and TJ stayed there with him untill halftime. I sure the kid was given a good talking too and this sent a strong message to rest of team.
I could tell TJ cared strongly for these kids and prepared them for the life ahead of them. The kids at Sealy loved TJ.
RIP TJ . You made a difference in many kids life. May God bless the family during this time of sorrow

The kids here have PLENTY of talent and they have probably heard the same justification from the coaching staff. I'm entitled to my opinion and just don't buy into the "dip" in talent as an excuse for not being able to pull off a win this season against a team with a least a 500 record. What a pathetic excuse. Folks like you are never accountable and accept mediocrity. The value in playing for a great coach, who can motivate and inspire, goes way beyond the field. A great coach brings you together as a team. Maybe you should listen to some of the great commentary by Coach Mills on the archived STSN broadcasts. I doubt you hear him use "dip in talent" as an excuse for losing.
