Girls Basketball State Championship: Argyle(31-5) vs Abilene Wylie(32-5)

Looks like we will have two very good basketball teams playing for the title as the Lady Eagles from Argyle return again this year to play the Lady Bulldogs from Abilene Wylie to decide who will reign supreme in this season's State Final game. Of course everyone reading this knows I'm an Argyle supporter and will naturally favor the Eagles to win, but the Lady Bulldogs will have the advantage underneath with their size. Both teams play good solid basketball technique, although I would give the nod to the Argyle girls for better movement of the ball on the offensive side. Wylie will again attempt to play contol basketball and work it underneath to their big girls and force Argyle to shoot from the outside so they can control the boards and outrebound the Eagles. It should be an interesting matchup.

Agreed. Don't think Wylie is just a feed it to our 6'4" post team though--we have some deadly outside shooters as well... should be a classic! Congrats on beating LaVega BTW.

I don't think Wylie will be pressured by Argyle like they were by Liberty Hill, but Argyle should do better offensively driving to the basket to force Wylie fouls.

I also believe Argyle is a better rebounding team than they get credit for. They play excellent position basketball. Obviously, the Lady Bulldogs have a stout basketball program thru the years and play Wylie underneath basketball as well as anyone. I look for Wylie to win the rebound matchup, but Argyle to force Wylie into fouls and bad shots.

Wylie is very impressive at the free throw line. Argyle will have to recognize that will be one of Wylie's advantages.

You must mean little 'ol juggling Argyle, huh? We juggle around our boys and girls in any way we can to see who's best at what from an early age, and it's like magic, LOL. We come up with some competitive teams in most of the sports. We're lucky the participation rate is so high in Argyle....it's not like this at most high schools.

To be honest, the coaching and the community support has as much to do with it as anything. Without those two ingredients, I doubt that Argyle would be as competitive as they have been over the years. They established a winning mentality early on and have done well to build on it with quality coaches at all levels and in all activities. It really is a nice place to live(on the edge of the metroplex and just outside of Denton) in the metroplex, and the people are very involved with their community.

There are many other towns that have the same and even more advantages around DFW than does Argyle, but they haven't been as successful for some reason. It must be the water.

I reckon just about all of the Wylie and Argyle girls are still asleep in bed....getting that rest they'll need for tonite's big game. It's gameday bigtime for them today. I remember the day my son awoke and was gonna play that evening in the state playoff football game.....the very first ever in Argyle's short history. We were so excited and proud of him and his accomplishments and let him know it. It's a special time to share together that you and your children will never forget. Tell them how much you love them.

Looks like the players on both teams are somewhat tired from yesterday's action and are saving it up for the 2nd half.

Argyle's starting 5 played every second of yesterday's game against La Vega....no subs.

Argyle had 14 pts. in the paint and outrebounded Wylie in the first half. Vivian Gray leads all scorers with 12 pts. Wylie will need to get Brewer more involved to force the action. Argyle has not been to the line for a free throw yet. Wylie will need to foul more to stop the Argyle attack.

I thought Argyle would force Wylie to foul on drives, but Wylie hasn't been called on a shooting foul yet. That's not good for Wylie if they are behind. That means they are letting Argyle get past them to the bucket. Wylie will need to contest more shots in the 2nd half.

Argyle gets the ball to start the 2nd half. We are underway. Turnover jump ball goes to Wylie on the loose ball. Sanders hits a 3 from the corner for Wylie to cut the deficit. Now Wylie fouls Sain going to the basket. She misses the first and Wylie rebounds. Now Wylie called for a charging foul as Sanders charges Ralston at the Wylie basket.

Congrats to the Argyle Lady Eagles on their State Championship. Vivian Gray wins the player of the game from Ford Tough. She is only a soph and her sister is a junior. Madison Ralston is a soph as well. Argyle will be back contending for another title next season in an attempt to go back-to-back. They lose Sain at forward and Jessie Sheridan at point guard, but have the players on the bench to fill those two spots.
