Today at 1:30 pm will be last year's State Final rematch as the Argyle Lady Eagles meet the La Vega Lady Pirates in a must-win game for each squad. Another great season for both teams will come to an end for the loser, but neither team plans on losing this one. This game should be full of fireworks as both teams will give their best efforts to advance to the State Championship on Saturday. Argyle had to prepare and play the semifinal last season first, and win that game before playing La Vega for the title the very next day. This year they will face top-ranked La Vega first, and have the advantage of preparing for a week in advance and the returning players on the team now know what to expect. Both squads have retained most of their starters from last year's championship game, so this year's game should be even better than last year's final. The winner will play the winner of the other semifinal between Liberty Hill and Abilene Wylie that immediately follows this game at the San Antonio Alamo Dome. Good luck to every team today, but esp. to the Argyle Lady Eagles because I'ma HOMER, haha. GO GET EM EAGLES!!!

The Argyle Broadcast Network will be broadcasting live from the Alamo Dome on Sportsgram Channel 9 starting at 1:15 pm today. Just google Sportsgram Channel 9 and click the Listen Live button to tune into the Argyle play by play. I'm not sure whether La Vega will be broadcasting the game or not.

3:49 left in the half and LV has the rebound advantage. Argyle seems to do better with the ball movement and working the open shot, but when they miss LV is getting the rebounds most of the time.

I've spotted 4 bad calls by the refs so far.....3 against Argyle and one against LV. Landrum for LV has 3 personal fouls now and will have to sit.

Argyle is missing easy shots....moreso than normal. They started out on fire, but have cooled down significantly now. I don't know if it's the LV defense....I don't think so. I just think they are a bit "off" right now and nobody on the team has a hot hand yet. They work the ball alot, and all 5 are sharing in the scoring.

La Vega has 2 players of their starting 5 signed to play at the next level. Landrum and DeGrate will be playing for Baylor and Louisville. Not many teams have two players of their starting 5 going to the next level w/high profile programs like that.

So far Argyle has managed to keep the Pirates from being too explosive, and have done a good job of keeping them in check. I think Argyle needs to stretch out a lead to start the 3rd because sooner or later LV WILL go on a run. Landrum does have 3 fouls though, and one more early in the 2nd half would be a hit against the Pirates team.

Argyle has not played that well offensively as far as shooting percentage.....not nearly as accurate as normal. Some of it is due to the LV defense, but not as much as just being off on the shot. Many missed shots were relatively close-range one on one or w/an open attempt and still missed. Argyle will need to make some of those in the 2nd half. Vivian Gray of Argyle has 16 pts to lead all scorers. 46.6% shooting for Argyle in the first half.

Now the ref calls an offensive foul on Argyle and the call should have been called against Landrum pressuring the Gray at the top of the key. Coach Townsend of Argyle objects.

Under a minute left and LV is forced to foul Argyle. Sheridan at the line. 53-49 with 47 secs. left. LV calls a timeout. Sheridan has not shot the free throws yet.

LV down by 4 with 47 secs. left. Evidently Sheridan had missed both free throws. Now LV takes it out at midcourt and shoots inside but is fouled. Shot is missed, DeGrate rebounds and is fouled by Gray. She misses and now she misses. Landrum gets the rebound and is fouled by Sheridan. Landrum goes to the line. She converts both and now the score is 54-52

Argyle will meet the winner of Liberty Hill and Abilene Wylie upcoming next. Argyle led the game from start to finish and La Vega led by one only one time during the entire game. Argyle showed lapses at times and allowed LV to get within 2 pts at times, but then would reel off several short runs and extend the lead back to several possessions. They got LV into foul trouble and played good defense. Neither team played its best game, but maybe that was because both teams were very good on defense and caused problems for the shooting.

Wylie vs Liberty Hill and Wylie will be the visiting team. Should be a very interesting game. Liberty Hill likes to play pressure and Wylie likes to be more deliberate. I think Wylie will contol the pace and impose their will on the court, but I could be wrong.

Wylie scores first but not without quite a bit of good defense by Liberty Hill. Now Brewer blocks the Lady Panther attempt and Wylie comes down with the ball. A foul on LH and Wylie will take it on the inbound. Both teams playing good defense. Now Wylie scores again on its 3rd possession.

I ended up taking a very late lunch to run up to the baseball field to watch the Rockets against Athens. They were down 0-1 when I got there but ended up winning 4-1.

I kept up with the Argyle/LV game via your posts............congrats to your Lady Eagles.

Liberty Hill wants to push the pace, but Wylie has negated that so far with turnovers and blocked shots, along with rebounds off missed shots. Wylie has broken the trap pressure of Liberty Hill with ease so far, but it's a long way to go still.

LH wants to press all out but Wylie seems to be able to run their offense regardless, although they are missing buckets because of it. Now LH finally hits one on the perimeter. 8-2 Wylie here in the first.

Sloppy Joes were tasty....now back to basketball. The 2nd half LH will need to hit some shots from 3 point land to cut the deficit. It appears Wylie can control the inside and outrebound the Panthers. It will come down to whether the Lady Panthers can get some quick buckets on turnovers and hit the 3's, or else Wylie will continue to control the boards and the pace.

LH comes out and hits a 3. Then they get a steal and hit the bucket for another 2. Suddenly they've cut the lead by 5 here to start the 2nd half. 22-15 Wylie.

LH has been showing good ball movement but it appears now that Wylie has decided to go out on the perimeter and really pressure LH, not giving them a chance to shoot the long shot.

Wylie's stepped up their defense now and causing problems for the Lady Panthers to get quality shots off. LH will have to find a way to break down that defensive scheme or they will be in big trouble.

Looks like LH will have to attempt to drive the ball to the rim and force Wylie to foul. They haven't really done that yet.

LH has stepped up its pressure D on Wylie but is still having trouble converting offenisive attempts. They have forced some Wylie fouls, but have not converted at the line like Wylie has. Wylie definitely has the advantage inside with 6' 4" Brewer. LH is only shooting 15% from 3 point land, so they are ice cold and that's the problem.

Brewer and Mosley just rule the boards underneath, even when Wylie shoots from outside. But they really don't even need to shoot from outside...just use the clock and work the ball inside with time running off the clock.

42-33 Wylie with 6 mins. left. Now Wylie doesn't control and turns it over. Timeout LH with 5:42 left.

Walker with a steal and now its 42-33. Now Wylie misses and LH takes it down and is fouled. Walker makes them both and cuts the deficit down to 5.

Lots of physical action here as fouling is happening on every drive it seems. LH is fouled and makes both. Now LH gets a steal and shoots. She misses. Wylie gets the ball and throws it away....turnover #24 for Wylie. Timeout LH.

Two more opportunities for LH to score and both are misses. Wylie takes the ball down and feeds it inside to Brewer for a crucial bucket. Wylie extends its lead back to 8.

LH got another steal, worked it in, and it was knocked out of bounds by Wylie. LH inbounds it and misses the 3 that would have cut the lead. Wylie gets the rebound and takes it down, then calls a timeout.

Final

Wylie advances to play Argyle tomorrow for the State Championship. They controlled the boards and broke the pressure when they needed to and kept LH from making their 3's from the perimeter with good defense. Wylie forced LH to shoot from the outside and LH was just not able to convert the 3's today. LH did force lots of Wylie turnovers, but was unable to convert on a majority of them. Wylie won this game underneath and with good defense on the perimeter. They were also deadly at the line when fouled.

Congrats to the Liberty Hill Lady Panthers and the La Vega Lady Pirtates on fine seasons. They were both very worthy opponents in this tournament. Argyle and Abilene Wylie will meet tomorrow here at the Alamodome to decide the State Champion for Class 4A. Tipoff will commence at 7 pm. Good luck to both squads.
