SWEENY BELTS LADY LEOPARDS: Sweeny beat Van Vleck, 12-2, on Thursday in the nightcap of the Sweeny Varsity Classic.

Lauren Myers went five frames for the win with five strikeouts. Leading hitters were Destiny Williams (single, triple), Kelsey Sikes (two triples), Taylor Beal (triple), Kirstin Hansen (2-for-3, triple) and Mekayla Gurley (single, triple).

The win improved the Lady Dogs record to 2-3 on the season.

Sweeny plays East Bernard at 2:15 p.m. today in the finale of the tournament.

Sweeny lost the last game of the tournament to 3A #1 East Bernard 2-0 in ITB. Sweeny finished tourney (3-2)

Show for East Bernard was impressive. Sweeny's Lauren Myers had a tremendous performance as well.

How do the girls like playing on the turf. I think it would be great but you know how women can be.

We are a couple of years in on the turf, and the girls have had to make some adjustments in sliding, throwing, fielding, but once those are made, I haven't heard of many complaints.
