Gilmer won 25 games while running the Power I from 1971 to 1978. Don't ask me how many we lost.

Today's Gilmer team would've led the 1976 team by triple digits at halftime. Don't ask me how I know so much about that team.

LoL! Cowboys won 3 SBs out of the "I".. I you got a back like ES, you can pass very effectively from it.

Yes, but referring to Katy tonight. Also last week vs Steele. They weren't very effective chunking it....

Yes and we should probably omit the word "Power" from any reference to Gilmer's decade of doom and gloom.

They lost a game in 1981 while running it. I think they gained 78 yards the whole game.

I was there. It was bad. But at least they made it that far.

The insurmountable problem with not being able to pass is you can't fall more than about two or three scores behind before mounting a comeback becomes impossible as a practical matter.

Had the roles been reversed in our third round playoff game this year against Gladewater, with the Bears stopping Gilmer on 4th-and-2 and getting the ball at their own 17 with 1:09 left on the clock and no timeouts trailing by two points, no one believes the Bears would've marched down the field and won the game the way the Buckeyes did.

The Buckeyes are not predominantly a passing team. They always try to balance the two. But NOT being able to pass in 2014 is a program-killer, IMO, in terms of wanting to build a perennial state contender. I admit there have been exceptions in the past who have handled Gilmer, such as Liberty Hill.

LOL.. how did it work out? I'm not sure what Sville will do next year unless they have a move in QB. The 2 coming up aren't anything compared to the last 3 Sville has had. Maybe run the Power I?! smh

Sville's OL will be great and having Williams along with Madrid.. could set up a pretty salty running game. We shall see.

Rumor is Goldthwaite is breaking away from the wishbone next year and going to the I formation.
I think it's more of balanced offense at the high school level.
We will see.

It is balanced if, like Hollywood has stated, you have the horses.. Got to have a TB that runs good enough to sell the play action..a QB that throws accurate on the run as well as in straight drop back from under center and a physical OL.. Of course a really good defense helps.

LOL....doesn't every offense need that combination?

People get caught up too much in formations now..it is about the philosophy of the offense no matter how they line up.
