I know the State Finals are this week, but few will be back on this message board afterwards so I wanted to get this out there and hopefully have some fun discussions before everyone goes celebrate the holidays. With just 4 teams left how would your Top Ten look now.

Division I:

1-Argyle
2-Navasota
3-Kennedale
4-Graham
5=Stephenville
6-Liberty Hill
7-Abilene Wylie
8-El Campo
9-Burnet
10-Henderson

Division II:

1-Gilmer
2-WOS
3-Gladwater
4-Sinton
5-La Grange
6-La Marque
7-Atlanta
8-Celina
9-Sweetwater
10-Yoakum

Now of course with the State Championship games yet to be played Number 1 and Number 2 could be changed.

You almost have to put Celina in the top 4. They made the semis and beat a very good Sweetwater team. Im thinking Sinton #3. They had a heck of a passing game. Im not sure I would put LaMarque in the top 8. Either they were way overrated or we(WOS) just played incredible that game.

I think Gladwater would be playing for a State Title if not for a last second loss to Gilmer so that is why I have them at number 3. I was surprised at how close Sinton keep the game against WOS so for that reason alone I put them in at number 4. Celina and Sweetwater were both very good teams, but I think they both would struggle against the teams I have ranked ahead of them.

IMO, Henderson El Campo, and LH were all top 10 teams. If I had to rank just those three that Navasota played I would rank in this order.

1. El Campo- Best offense that Navasota has seen. Had they had a Henderson type defense, the final score may have been a little different. Out of the three, El Campo was the best overall team IMO.
2. Henderson- Best job defensively that Navasota has seen. Once Navasota figured out their offense, it was over.
3. Liberty Hill- That Slot T is nasty. Once the Rattlers were able to figure it out, we held the Panthers scoreless in the second half. They had no
answer for our offense.

pretty dang close except I would put Sinton at 4 and move everyone else down 1 notch. Also think HJ would give Atlanta and Sweetwater a run for their money. Maybe Celina also, big maybe. Then taht would make LaGrange 5 and HJ 6.

Like this is what it should look like:

1.WOS
2.Gilmer
3. Gladewater
4.Sinton
5.Lagrange
6.HJ
7.Celina
8. Sweetwater
9.Atlanta
10. Cuero
11. Yoakum
12.LaMarque Actually, make that Giddings (I think they beat LaMarque)

I think the best two teams in 4a d2 are Gilmer then Gladewater. As for Celina I don't think they could beat Gladewater and im not sure they could have beaten Atlanta or WO-S

Thats why I have been saying we should just save our money and stay home. Obviously the SC has already been played a few weeks ago. No way we can match up with that brutal ETX speed. You know since were known for being slow and havent had that much success in Track either.

That's the way I viewed it. Argyle had a lot a calls and/or bad luck go against them, when usually these things seem to balance out pretty even over the course of a game but then the one bad decision by their QB was really the deal breaker. Navasota capitalized on their own good luck and that's about all we can say about it.

The Buckeyes won their 400 meter race, but were scorched badly in the first 200 meters.

Most people know that Vince Lombardi had many, many good sayings and many of them are quoted today. One of his most famous is "Winning is Everything". I tend to disagree with this philosophy. I can understand his mentality as a coach preaching this to his team, but I'm still of the school of thought that believes how and what you do is most probably more important than the end result. There were many, many quality football teams this season that were champions in my book, not just the ones leaving Jerryworld with the titles.

I'm gonna say this and take my poison:

The UIL created this playoff system to determine State Champions. Over the course of a season there are so many things that cause good, or even great teams to lose a game. Injuries, penalties, bad calls, and everything else that can be imagined are part of the game. I was at the Navasota vs Argyle game and left happy with the win and feeling blessed that there were breaks that went our way. Do I believe that we won the game only because of the refs, NO. I have watched the tapes and replays several times and can identify about 15 calls that were questionable and they were not all in Navasota's favor. The difference in the game was that Navasota took advantage of the luck they got and made the plays they had to make to win. I can tell everybody one thing though, Argyle was the best team from top to bottom that I saw against the Rattlers and truly believe that these two teams were about as equal in talent as you can find anywhere. Navasota gets the number one ranking because they won, no matter how it happened. Argyle would be ranked #2, but the point differential in the poll would be very narrow.

Now, take your shots. Just remember that I am already old and abuse of the elderly is a crime in Texas!!!!!!

I don't think he is kidding, but I disagree.

West Orange-Stark had a 25-7 halftime lead. By halftime of the Gladewater game, Gilmer had tied it up.

I think the Mustangs just lacked depth. I give them a lot of credit for how well they did in that first half. They had four drives and four touchdowns. Not even Gladewater could do that.

Gladewater had more depth, though, so it went down to the last few seconds.

Haven't seen the replay yet so can't really comment to any degree of certainty, but I do have a memory and would only say that most of the more "crucial" game-deciding calls went against Argyle. Of course, Navasota did eventually win on the scoreboard and in the end that is really all that counts. Let's just say that those two teams played their hearts out and did everything anyone could expect to win a title. That's all any fan could ever really ask for in a State Championship game anyway, and there will always be a winner and a loser of the game. It just wasn't one of those games with a clear-cut, or dominant winner. Both were very deserving.
