Speed is not the issue with Celina and never has been. It's a very big misconception with the East Texas brethren. Celina plays a high risk high reward defense. They load the box and play man up with pressure. If you get passed the box you are going to have a huge gain or a td. If you can't get through the box or off the pressure from the db's it's very rewarding. A few East Texas teams such as Daingerfield and Henderson were able to get through and off the pressure.
You forgot the Dawgs in 08. The speed of Mr. Smith ate Celina alive. Go to you tube and watch.

You would think Gilmer would have more state titles then they do...What with all the "move ins and transfers" ...lol... Kinne/Tuminillo and such like. Gilmer only has two piddly ole titles. Boy, Liberty hill and Navasota spanked their hinnies good in the finals. Navasota made em look slow and average. 39-3 was the final in that one lol
What rock did you crawl out from Bozo...you get up this morning an take 2 D.A. pills

Argyle, Allen, and Aledo
Argyle is a quality team...well coached, good people, a lot of fun to meet on the field...based on your criteria, you suck:
2013-2014 3A Division 2 Argyle vs Fairfield 38-33 Win
2011-2012 3A Division 2 Wimberley vs Argyle 21-14 Loss
2005-2006 2A Division 1 Newton vs Argyle 28-20 Loss
Only 33.3%

A loaded box is what we love to see...we have a couple of handfuls of receivers...surely Celina is not that one deminsional

Hollywood knows what he talks about...Dawg knows not...he likes to hate on any team that is successful against the Carthrage Bulldogs...he thinks that when your guy strips the ball from his Dawg, the Dawg said "here, take this ball & run with it"...when his own QB throws an interception, it was a "bonehead play" & they "gave " the ball to the opposition...typical hater
Oh look Bob and Hollywood. Two biggest homers on this board. Bob still taking about Carthage when I said plenty of times how bad Gilmer spanked us. I'm not hating on Gilmer just calling it like I see it. We have nothing to be jealous of. That was an awesome game. Glad I got to see it. Unbelievable finish.

Tard! Im not a Gilmer fan but that doesnt change th fact.that they are an excellent program. Call me.crazy but ill take a consistent team any day. Plus its great when under dogs knock off teams that according to their fans entitled to the SC.

I guess it's time for me to give Gladewater the respect that I didn't give them all week long.
They were much better than I had anticipated. I didn't expect Gilmer to cruise, but I did expect them to be able to pull away late and win by 21. Daylon Mack also was much more of a factor that he had been in previous games against Gilmer. He was dominant when he wanted to be but also seemed to take a few plays off on defense every now and then. Maybe he was just out there at times to bring attention towards him. Either way, he was a force that we had problems with all night long.
I know most will question the decision made by the Gladewater RB that fell to the ground instead of trying to run it in for the score. If you ask me, I think it was the right move. Gilmer had 1 time out left and could not stop Gladewater, especially on 3rd and 4th down. He might have scored but he also might have been pushed out of bounds to stop the clock. Gilmer just happened to dig deep and make a 4th down stand when it really counted.
Both of Gilmer's state championship teams had games like this the helped propel them. In 2004, it was the last district game against Pittsburg. In 2009, it was the state semi-final against Cuero. Hopefully this will be the game that gets talked about as the game the sling shot this team to the 2014 state championship.
Great game and great season Gladewater!

After having sometime to think about it, I think the RB made the right decision too. Could he have scored a TD? Maybe. But more than likely he would have been pushed out of bounds just how you said.

Yes that is what Celina does and they don't deviate from it. I personally think it's suicide against really fast teams that have receivers that can get off the pressure of the db's, but they don't change. Not sure why other than I guess that's all they know. On the bright side if it works it's beautiful.

First, let me say I underestimated Gladewater. They were a very good team, folks, and you hate to see a team this good lose, even if you hate them. I also want to say congratulations to my Buckeyes on a GUTSY win! Y'all had an off night offensively, made mistakes all night, penalties at inopportune times, etc., etc.
As for somebody saying the best team didn't win, I say BALONEY! Believe it or not, Gilmer actually had more total yardage, even though they misfired on offense all night until the chips were down. Yes, I thought Gladewater played the "perfect" game, and executed MUCH better than the Buckeyes did. The thing is, the Buckeyes played through all of the bad breaks, mistakes, misfires, and all the hype, and GUTTED out the win. This game was literally won with GUTS and intestinal fortitude when things never went right for them all night. If I didn't know better, and were a neutral fan, I would've thought that Gladewater was actually the team with the tradition and experience of playing under the bright lights because they played with much more poise. The thing is this Gladewater team was a lot better team than most of us thought, and we knew that the longer they stayed in the game, the harder it would be to win. I knew when we dropped several passes early, that we were not playing like the team we've been watching all season long. Gladewater had a game plan, executed that game plan to perfection, and still lost.
As for the play where the Bear RB slid down at the 26-yard line..., I questioned it, too, because it "looked" like he would score. After looking at it on film, it looked like he was gonna be caught after about 5 more yards and pushed out of bounds because two Buckeyes had the angle on him. It turns out it was probably a smart play doing the slide IN BOUNDS. They ate up at least another 3 minutes of clock, and all they needed on the 4th down was two yards. Mack was getting at least two yards nearly every time he carried the ball. The ONE TIME Gilmer actually had to get a stop they did. There are at least three people who saw the play up close, even one on the sideline, who said he actually got a favorable spot, and still came up short. Watching it on replay confirmed it.
Anyway, Gilmer takes possession with 1:09 left, NO timeouts, drives 82 yards for the winning TD with :09 seconds left. The Buckeyes won this game despite an off night for them, and that says a LOT about this group of young men, and their absolute refusal to quit. They absolutely WILLED their way to this win.
We survived to play another day, which in the end is all that matters! Let's finish this, Buckeyes! One game at a time.

I want to give some more props to Gladewater for their classy run out sign at the start of the game. I just now saw what it said when I was watching some videos on You Tube. For those who weren't there or didn't notice it, it said,
"Remember Why
We Fight
Bean | DEZign8"
Obviously in honor of the 2 student athletes that passed away in the recent months. Very, very classy of Gladewater. Thank you for that!

That was a very classy thing they did. As much of a rivalry as there is between these two teams and towns, that was one of the many things that we share in common, and that what happens off the field in more important than what happens on the field.
For what it's worth, I think Gladewater has the coaching staff, and the athletes to start making deep runs consistently now. It's really unfortunate, considering, that either of these teams had to lose.
